In the next 42 days, Prek Chik Funan Techo Historical Project will be officially opened for construction.
The Gifunan Canal is 180 kilometers long, connecting the Mekong River to the sea, from Prek Takeo, crossing Prek Ta Ek, entering Prek Ta Hing and continuing to the sea in Kep. This canal was built to follow the old canal that used to be fertilized in the past through four provinces: Kandal, Takeo, Kampot, Kep. The Funan Techo canal is 100 meters wide, 80 meters wide and 5.4 meters deep, which allows ships to carry 4,000 tons in the rainy season and 3,000 tons in the dry season.
Please be informed that on June 28, 2024, Samdech Techo Hun Sen requested the Royal Government that when the construction site of Funan Techo Canal is opened on August 5, 2024, please call on all pagodas. Drum and fireworks where possible.
Samdech Techo stated, "I propose to the Royal Government on August 5, when the construction site of Funan Techo canal is opened, I would like to call on all pagodas and other places to play drums and fireworks on the night of the 5th." "More rockets should be fired where possible in August to show support for the project."
He said the project would create hundreds of thousands of years of opportunities for Cambodia to ensure that Cambodia could have its own sea transport route without having to go through other countries. The canal will be one of Cambodia's largest ecosystems that contributes to climate change mitigation and becomes a green area in the southwest in all seasons.
In the spirit of national unity, Samdech Techo Hun Sen would also like to thank our compatriots everywhere for their full support of the Funan Techo Canal Development Project, which will be opened in the near future. This is another strong national movement of the whole people, like the national movement to defend sovereignty, territorial integrity and the national movement to protect the health of the people in the past. The Funan Techo Canal Project is an initiative born out of Cambodian conscience and will that will bring huge benefits to Cambodia, such as gaining transportation distance, competitive price, increasing irrigation and flood relief. Help expand cultivation in the southwest, get fisheries and aquaculture, as well as promote tourism.
At the same time, the Funan Techo canal will help Cambodia strengthen its political independence on water transport. This canal will not cause any impact
No harm to the environment and the flow of the Mekong River. This is an additional confirmation of Samdech Techo Hun Sen.
Please be informed that the Bassac River Navigation and Logistics System Project "Prek Chik Funan Techo" connects the river between the river to the Cambodian sea through Kandal, Takeo, Kampot and Kep provinces with a length of 180 km. 700 million US dollars.
