Unfortunately content creation is the single most lacking field on Linux. If the software you're using is supported on Linux, you're going to get a stable and efficient version, often better than Windows, which is great. But if it's not, there is Wine, which can run most Windows programs out of the box and is worth trying. Running a native Windows app on Linux you might notice a speed increase, increased responsiveness, and often increased stability. Start with Linux Mint, which is the most popular Ubuntu based distro, and the most Windows like. It's the closest to "home" mainstream distro. Like moving from Windows 7 to Windows 10, moving from Windows to Mint is about as straight forward. With Mint you get: Support from the Ubuntu community. A stable operating system with stable programs. Super easy program installs and super easy auto updates using PPAs. And, if there isn't a ppa for the software you want to install both Ubuntu, Debian, and Linux based installers, from the company website, will work on Mint out of the box. The only "hitch" if you could call it that, is I recommend installing up to date graphics drivers from NVIDIA or AMD. Newer drivers can be selected in Driver Manager found in the start menu. For whatever reason NVIDIA's drivers do not auto update to the newest version, so I check every few months, due to NVIDIA being weird, but AMD's drivers do auto update which is nice.

I switched to Linux for a few months and got caught in the loop of "I'm cool cuz my os is unique!" and end up spending most of my time using it doing google and figuring out how to do the most basic things. After a while of learning the basic things, I realized how pointless this was. I could do basically everything I do on windows, and much more efficiently at that. Programs that are supposed to be alternatives to windows are just plain worse. Because 99% of people use windows and it's programs, compatibility becomes a huge problem. I couldn't work with microsoft office documents with "Libre-office", only on the web based office. And some programs just doesn't exist all together. After a ton of that "It's fine I can live with this..." I finally switched back to windows, and found out "everything just works" like before. Unless the community or userbase gets larger so developers actually care to port their programs to the platform and make it an on par experience like on windows, unless that happens I'll stick with windows thank you.
I know it is hard for the first time when migrate from Windows to Linux. I switch to Linux in 2016. Till now I'm still learning, read the wiki, man pages, tutorial and go to forum to ask is the best troubleshooter that I met. Linux is more efficient when running on low hardware. Dual core Celeron, 4GB of RAM, 10GB of hard disk is more than enough for me to browsing web while running Libreoffice, listening music and updating entire system. Basic things is done by aliases, script or functions. Automatic task done by cron job or startup script. I know that I cannot use Libreoffice like when I use Microsoft Office. I feel they have same purpose but do it in different way. So when I switch to Linux, I totally decide to do all things based on "Linux way" not based on "Windows way". Work with terminal isn't horrible like I think before. With the help of aliases, I don't need to remember bunch of command. My system was 4 years old now and I never doing reinstall. Only in Windows I ever got BSOD, and I don't know how to fix it except doing reinstall entire system. I'm not a gamer and I don't have enough money to buy a powerfull hardware, so Linux is the only choice that I have for my cheap laptop, maybe this is what I call efficient. Now I feel more confuse when using Windows because I cannot use Windows like when I use Linux. I think it is better to use Linux only if all applications that you need is available on Linux and your hardware is not powerfull enough to running Windows.

Just to be fair, chances are that Linux will pick everything up as well. I'd like Cool Hat Anthony to teach us how to build a no BS Linux System for content creators...
Please Mr. Sebastian Overlord?
Same hardware you'd use for Windows PC and content creator stuff that works on Linux: Krita, Gimp, DaVinci Resolve, Darktable, Maya (One click install on CentOS\RHEL, a bit more work to install on Debian based systems, but can be done and scripts are available online), Blender, Modo, Houdini, Mari, Nuke, Unity3D, Godot, just out the top of my head.
also: Kdenlive, audacity, OBS, recordmydesktop, simplescreenrecorder
No mention of Lightworks? Lightworks is a juggernaut! Combine that with some Natron and you've got all your big bits

Haha, thanks, you have good taste, been using it for years xD
Some distros are not that nice. Other than LibreOffice, u can use WPS office which is only preinstalled on Ubuntu Kylin (the `Chinese` Ubuntu that is said to be like Windows but isn`t) and I saw it on Huawei advertisements and it is quite good other than telling you to upgrade upgrade upgrade upgrade

@@TheNacropolice IDK, I haven't heard of an OSX update deleting people's files... or a Linux update, for that matter. Microsoft seems to have a bit of a knack for bugs, jussayin.
And "don't complain if you can't personally do it" is a bogus argument. Can't make a cell phone that doesn't burst into flames? Well then don't complain when your Samsung phone bursts into flames; you couldn't do better. Yeah, sorry, no.
As if Linux and MacOS never introduced any bugs with patches or updates. Don't be ridiculous. Measured by the complexity of Windows (which IS higher than MacOS because of the backwards compatibility to Win2000, partially even back to Windows 3.1, supporting third party drivers and literally billions of hardware combinations it's a miracle Windows doesn't blue screen once a day. And they STILL manage to patch exploits faster than Apple. Meanwhile professional Mac users have to carefully weigh if they update to the newest OS version, not just because there could be bugs like on Windows, but it is EXPECTED that many professionally used software titles need an upgrade before working on the new version, and those updates sometimes take months or won't come at all because the product was just taken off the shelf (while you still like to use it).
@@jensdroessler3575 It's true, I generally avoid installing the latest MacOS update for 3+ months to let any bugs shake out.
But there are valid criticisms. A MacOS update never deleted my files. That invisible "seeker" opt-in from clicking the "check for updates" button is some serious BS.

I find funny when at this type of videos always inevitably appears the blue screen topic followed by a mention to Mac. NOTHING has ever crashed on me more than my old G3 running the first versions of OSX. I had *at least* 2 bombs a day. This was the reason why I swapped to Windows. I got sick of my mac crashing.
In the past year I've had so many bsods , I can't even count anymore. Thus might be due to me being a power user but after windows was crashing on me so much I just gave up on it and got manjaro
If you're used to Mac try out Elementary OS, it is very similar to OSX
bruh why can't computers just do the thing computers supposed to do.
I had the complete opposite experience, my windows laptop would crash atleast once a day and my macbook almost never.
Right? I have a friend who has and iPhone that's a couple years old ( I don't know the friggen numbers). He told me that it locked up on him and _he was afraid to reboot it_ because _it may not come back,_ and was headed to the Apple store just in case.

For me the best feature of w10 is, that you can rip out hard drive of your broken laptop just put it in random PC and your system will boot. So you can continue in your work.
Very true, generic driver support in windows 10 these days is spectacular.
Not so true, Not all computers use generic drivers.
I tried that with 1 computer, and 2 people I know tried it with their own computers. None of them worked. 1 of them couldn't even get the original computer to boot after putting the drive back in afterward. Seems like this might not be true all the time.
Just to be fair, chances are that Linux will pick everything up as well. Unlike Windows Linux does not use 'generic drivers' in the way Windows does, support for most devices is included in the kernel. You can then install proprietary drivers for like nvidia if you need. There may be issues with graphics drivers, for example if you switched from nvidia to amd, but you will still get terminal from where you can purge old driver and install new on in like 2 commands and 2 minutes. Just saying.
That's only partially true.
And you've been able to do that at least as far back as xp(oldest o.s. I currently have).
While it may boot and you may have basic functionality, it may also lock up, freeze during operations, or just go into an endless reboot and worst case damaging the o.s. install requiring a full reinstall.
Swapping drives like that is never recommended.
Unless you know the risks and how to mitigate them.
Yes Windows 10 was the best thing I ever did in my life. It made me change to Linux and no regrets.

@Scupake Previous versions were fine but Windows 8, 8.1 and 10 is just terrible. Very resource heavy, no privacy, poor security and updates.
Windows is good for gaming but for anything else I find it dreadful.
I have used both Debian and fedora based OSes but never used arch. It's quite difficult to install. And yes I'm no noob. I've tried over 250+ Linux distros just for fun.
@Flavio Messy? So far my Manjaro is looking nice and clean. It is very minimalistic so it is not clogged up software and junk.

After a year use I have noticed that performance dropped so sooner or later it will crash. I was right. 👌
1: gaming
----For now yes, but Linux is for sure catching up with entire distros optimized for Gaming.
2: it just works
---Yes, for the basic end user who just wants internet yes it just works...installing and configuring software is a chore. Linux a simple apt-get is usually all you need. But again, from the user perspective who just wants internet use...Linux "just works"
3: customization
---Configuring my task bar with my own shortcuts...is not customization...changing my backround...is not customization....
4: task manager and monitoring, scheduling
----Linux has all this and much better if I need to say more on this you should probably stop touching technology.
5: support
---Have you ever actually had to deal with Microsoft? They're atrocious...their forums are usually detailed nicely...but then again so are Linux forums. We can call this a draw.
6: there is software for your work and shortcuts
---considering everything's going to cloud based systems(Usually running Linux btw) it really doesn't matter since it's all being operated on through a web portal.
7: windows layout didn't change
---Windows 8...they fixed it nicely with 10...except now you get ads in your start button and in Linux generally the directory structure is the same. So if you know your command line as a tech should....you can navigate any Linux system.
8: taskbar and thumbnails
---Linux has this as well...albeit more customization
9: "reliability"
---Show me a windows server that hasn't rebooted in a year and still running great. This is exactly why many servers on the back end, run a version of linux(PhotonOS/CentOS) because of the stability the OS allows. Also have you seen the update threads going on since 1803? Every new version Microsoft releases breaks something new...what is it this time with 1903 I think it was Wifi Drivers and Adapters?
10: "compatibility"----Technically speaking given that most of the internet runs on back end Linux...there's more compatibility for Linux than Mac or Windows...it's front end user experience that you get your compatibility. Hardware is pretty well compatible with almost everything...duo core intel running Xubuntu still boots up faster than my friends Windows 10 i7. Save for some graphics card drivers and compatibility again, Linux takes it.
I have to object to number 5. I haven't been able to find any relevant help in the ms "knowledge base" for the last 8 years.
@@waterandsteel4713 I've done some C# programming. And their visual studio coverage is quite well done. However, for server configuration and optimization, I must agree with you.
