I remember the night my mother asked my father to leave when she discovered he was having an affair, and his final words as he walked out the door were; "why am I the one who has to leave? It's MY house too". You hope that in the final moment, when they're life has truly become a shambles that the will find the will to say something meaningful, or just loving, but they don't. They leave you cold and empty, and at the bottom of a very large mountain, that you have to start climbing one painful and grueling step at a time. Anyway, they got back together but the scars NEVER go away, and it happened around the same age to ME as it did to Kravitz. There were no custody battles, or court cases, just pain, and the aching sense that things were NOT going to be okay. It truly is something that NEVER leaves you. It sits in your gut until THAT parent is no longer with you. That is not to say that you WISH for the death of the parent, who you STILL love with all of your heart, it's just a relief when they are no longer alive for you to have to keep forgiving every day. Because, as a son or daughter, when your parents fail you, there is a sense that ANYONE can fail you. That there is NOBODY in the world who is truly safe to be with, or to put your trust in to not let you down.
