    Ragdolls are the dogs of the cat world. They need so much attention and love and never leave you alone. Great for those of us who always wanted a dog but could not get one.

      I disagree. Maine Coons are the dogs of the cat world. My Maine Coons love dogs - make friends with my neighbor’s Pit Bulls and Terriers - and the delivery folks. My Ragdoll is most loyal - follows me everywhere I go. She loves curling up around my feet.

      My cat isn't a purebred ragdoll, but she shares many of the traits they have and she has vastly improved my mental health. Petting her and having her lay on top of me helps me control my anxiety, and in general feeling so loved by such a perfect little creature helps me immensely with my depression and even gets me through rough times when I'm having social problems due to PTSD. I get why you may want to get a purebred, but for the sake of the kitties (and your wallet lol, they are hella pricey) it might be beneficial to check out your local shelter first and meet some of the cats they have. I've met many cats who share the main ragdoll traits but had come from the streets where they could have all kinds of genetics. I hope you have the best of luck with any furry baby you get and your anxiety levels improve

      No, Ragdoll cats range from medium to HUGE like Maine Coons. Four is a lot to take care of unless they are indoor/outdoor cats...which is not recommended. I had one that was indoor/outdoor for twenty years. You can do it, but it's not recommended. Especially since many people know the cost of the cat, people will steal them, and Ragdoll cats are so easy going, they usually won't resist getting picked up and taken.

    No one can beat Hazel, Spoonful of Ragdolls, with her 11 Ragdolls! I know she has her daughter and husband, but Hazel does most of work and gets scolded by 11 Ragdolls who will not leave the front door if she goes out shopping, and then they walk away and ignore her. LOL
    Their full coloring takes 3 years so the identical quints (the Five Gs) are not quite as identical as when they were born and started coloring.
    And another thing about Ragdolls is that they might hate cats and want to be left alone. Manon is a cat who hates cats. So, technically, there are 10 Ragdolls and whatever Manon thinks she is! LOL
    Your tutorial is very well done. You covered all the tops points, esp the actual cost! People don't like to discuss money.

      Fixed male and female is best. While Ragdoll cats get along very well, in general there is more tension is you get two animals of the same gender. Same gender cats can cause territorial problems with locations and people. Ragdoll cats don't usually have this issue, but they are still cats and why take the chance?

    A few things mentioned here...I am a breeder of 20 years.We do NOT test each kitten we Test the Parents we intend to breed so as to not pass a positive HCM gentically.If familes are concerned they may test thir own cats with a mail in swob from swipes inside their cheeks to a few different Labs.The pattern in the video for a pinted ragdoll was a mitted NOT pointed.Pointed have solid face color as well as solid leg coloring.Feeding raw is also optonal.There are many types of high grade food on the market these days.Its also true if you get one ragdoll you will most likey get a 2nd.They do not have to be gotten together but will enjoy each other when ever you at the 2nd one.In my Opinion $3500 if to much for a Pet Ragdoll even of perfect markings.$1500 to $2200 if fair.

      @TheCatButler  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey Sandra thanks for clarifying the HCM and pointed piece! I agree a pet quality ragdoll is definitely on the lower end of the range. The range I included is to account for catteries in high cost of living areas and also I found that for most catteries that have produced a lot of champions, $3,500 price is the average price for a show quality cat from their program. Hope that helps!

      Hi Sandy! Thanks for replying before I did. You’re absolutely correct, I don’t test kittens either, only breeding cats. Many Ragdoll breeders are no longer testing for HCM.
      As for prices, seems like the responsible RD breeders here in Southern California are charging $2800-$3500 for the cats. I don’t have a separate price for show quality. All I end up with is angry parents if the cat doesn’t like to show.

      I just got a little Seal Bi color Lynx Ragdoll kitten two weekends ago and I am leaving today to go get another one, both are 5 months old. But I can’t decide between two kittens. A Seal Mitted with a Blazed nose or a Blue mitted ragdoll. Both look so friggin beautiful that it has literally been one of the most stressful choices of my life. But I had two Lilac Point Balinese from the same litter that were best friends. The female died from diabetes complications and my male is devastated. Its been almost 6 months and he cries for her every day and searches the house incessantly. So we got him a new ragdoll to play with but he doesn’t seem interested. So he has maybe 4 years left so I figured id get another one for my new kitten to play with and I hope they play together like your cats! Thats how my two Balinese played together. But the funny thing was when they would play too hard and one would get mad and they would growl at each other, just for them to start grooming each other like mad.. Like one giant fluff salad lol.. Ive always been partial to the lighter colors in cats. The lilacs, blues, flames, fires and reds. But they are all gorgeous and its so hard to choose.

    • @TheCatButler
      @TheCatButler  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh that is a tough decision. I am leaning towards a blue mitted ragdoll from the google images I see. Thanks for sharing your comment. Loved reading every bit of it. I am just imagining your Balinese cats playing together. Must have been a beautiful site to see!

    • @desertegle40cal
      @desertegle40cal 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TheCatButler Yeah it was pretty funny how they would both squeeze into a spot or in a perch that was only meant for one cat. They looked uncomfortable but they would sleep there for hours. My cat Dyce (the male Balinese) was a runt and I didn’t plan on getting him when I chose my female but she adopted him as her own even though she was a kitten herself only two months older than he was. So my breeder said she couldn’t get rid of just one and had to sell them together since they both had such a strong bond. And I am SO glad I did. Their bond was so special and beautiful. It easy to see why Dyce is so devastated now. The always got along no matter the situation. Heck, in 14 years they only ever fought once and that was kind of my fault cause I was carrying Dyce and went by a perch that Isys was sleeping in and he reached out and sunk his claws into what he thought was the perch but was her thigh, because he didn’t know she was there and she got mad and chased him all around the house lol. But I just separated them for 30 minutes and when I opened the door they both flopped down in the doorway and started grooming each other. The funniest times were when they would be grooming each other and Dyce would start playing and biting Isys so she would do the same, they both would start making little growling noises and whacking each other in the face with their paws before they went back to grooming each other again. It was like WTF what that all about? LOL..

    • @desertegle40cal
      @desertegle40cal 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TheCatButler Oh and BTW, I decided on getting the Seal Mitted with the Blazed nose. Because my new kitten is a seal bi color lynx so they would compliment each other in color. Plus the blue mitted was more docile and my new kitten is very energetic. The Seal Mitted is very playful so that was also a deciding factor. So i am now typing to you from a hotel in North Florida waiting for my breeder to get here from Alabama. I can’t wait to have two gorgeous fluffy kitties to play with Dyce. Even if he just likes to watch. Plus my breeder made a suggestion. Because I was trying to get a cat that looked like my Lilac Point Balinese female I want only looking at Blue mitted and pointed Ragodolls. But she said in her experience that you shouldn’t try getting a cat that looks like your old one or else you’ll be comparing the two and it could lead to disappointment. So that was a factor in my choice.
      Oh, I probably should add that my breeder has such a big heart that after she heard my story about my grieving cat she decided to sell me a show quality kitten she was saving for a breeder friend of hers for a pet quality price. THEN when I called her two weeks later and told her I was thinking about getting another kitten to play with my new one until Dyce warmed up to them she once again pulled from her small stock of kittens she saves for other breeders that are all show quality kittens and sold it to me for pet quality. Another beautiful female. So I am now waiting with baited breath to meet my new gorgeous baby girl who will be here in two hours! YAY! 😃

One thing I thought about that I'm not sure you'd want to include: I have a male from one line and a female from another line. The female (Sybilla) (pronounced si-BILL-uh) comes very directly from the original Anna Baker lines. I have noticed some differences in her personality. For one thing, when I pick her up, she doesn't flop but instead watches the world with avid interest. She loves to be picked up, but it's for adventure, not cuddling. She's also an excellent huntress. Otherwise, she is precisely the kind of cat you describe in your video. Thanks!

    I have a red but colour ragdoll and he’s my pride and joy. But be aware that all cats are different so every ragdoll will not display all of these traits. He’s the most affectionate cat I’ve ever seen, I often wake up to him cuddling into my face. However, he’s not docile, if he’s made to do something he doesn’t want to do e.g. vets, trimming nails, picked up, brushing; he’ll bite and scratch like other breeds; he’s a little rough with our new rescue adult cat who is half his size; he gets on with the family dog but it took some work; he bounces around the house when he’s playful; he misses us when we leave but isn’t reliant on us. Point is that cats are complex animals with thoughts and feelings, you can’t just breed out all the bits you don’t like - so don’t be disappointed if you get a ragdoll and they don’t check every single box, be ready for scratching, biting, misbehaving but also a new best friend :)

    Can confirm on ragdolls being good with other animals in the house and two cats being better than one.
    I got a ragdoll cat recently after my Ragdoll Mutt (From the street and had markings, behavior, and size exactly like a ragdoll) passed away early spring last year. I loved his personality and coloring and size so it was an easy decision. And I can say it was the right choice. I have a 10 year old female black cat named Athena. She likes having cat company, but isn't overtly friendly with other cats. I hoped the new kitten and Athena would at least be friendly.... But my new ragdoll managed to charm her more than any other cat, including my ragdoll mutt. I think it really helped that he was only a small kitten when he arrived, but he's got a tenaciously friendly and affectionate personality. I hope that their relationship grows more and more so that Athena becomes even more comfortable with him trying to invade her space. I'm just really glad that Athena has another little brother after her other brother died so suddenly.

    For anyone looking to get a ragdoll cat, make sure the breeder does a good job socializing their kittens. I got a couple Ragdolls from a breeder that didn't socialize them, and while they have warmed up to me and my husband, they aren't super affectionate and are afraid of other people.

    I have a blue bi-color ragdoll female I got from my aunt a year ago. I have 3 domestic shorthair cats who are all seniors (two are litter mates that are now 15 and I have an 18 year old as well). To say she is the chillest cat is a major understatement, she gets along so well with my other cats from the very beginning and adjusted to our crazy cat household so well. I would 100% recommend a ragdoll, only downside for me is the hair 😂

    I had a Ragamuffin for a few years (think coyotes got her :c), similar to the Ragdoll breed genetically. Super sweet and would actually follow me on walks, meowing up a storm on the way out, but silent on the way back. Figured out near the end that she was saying "Come back, human! It's dangerous out there!". She was also surprisingly mechanically inclined for a barn cat. Learned how to open our windows, but lacked the strength to actually do so!
    I bet Ragdolls are just as awesome. :)

      I like to think she simply ran off and plans to come back one day. But after three months of searching every property around me (I live in the woods), I may never know. Maybe she moved in with the local cougar den infesting my other neighbor's property! XD

    Your cats are beautiful and I like be the video! We got two red brothers in 2016, one bicolour and one mitted. The bicolour looked more like cream. Sadly, we lost him to kidney disease last year, he was only four (kidney disease usually occurs much later so it was complete shock when we found out). Thanks to new early screening tests, we were able to identify early changes in his brother. After putting him on a special diet, he is doing great. If you can get screening done, I recommend it.
    We have since adopted a 2yo seal mitted boy from the same breeder, and a blue mitted boy who just turned 1, all from very dedicated and ethnical breeders. They are awesome cats, each with very different personalities, the red boy is a smoochy trouble-maker, the seal boy is chatty, affectionate and just loves everyone, and the blue baby is a total maniac but super sweet 😊❤️

      Hey thanks for sharing your personal story! They just recently got their blood work done with the new screening test for kidney disease. And it seems ok but they are only 1. Did the doctors say the kidney disease they think is genetic if it was that early?

      Awwww I feel for your loss! I was given my 1st ever cat at the airport with the 'promise' that the lady would send me a kennel and $ when she got home to get her back. She was trying to sneak her on a plane, I was 'nominated' by those around the situation to temporarily take kitten. I didn't get the woman's info, though she had mine, i never heard back from the woman. The kitten was probably 4 wks old and was supposedly an orphaned stray, the vet I took her to said she was a Persian, which became more evident as she grew. Fast FWD 9 years, she got kidney disease, I was devastated. Over the years with Tons of $ in vet bills including a few rounds of sub-Q fluids, she passed away, much to my surprise she lived an awesome life to 18.5 years. I was so blessed. Her death was still very hard, so I definitely feel for you.

      I recognize your story! We had 2 sisters (domestic short hairs) and we lost 1 last year due to sudden kidney failure, she was just 3,5 years old. A special diet for the other one and she’s good, thankfully. A few months later we got her a new friend 😊.
      It has made me a bit hyper alert on the cats well being, scared that i might lose them unexpectedly because they cannot tell me when they’re not feeling well.

    I was searching for an appropriate name for my female seal-point lynx kitten. I eventually decided that since they're an offshoot of the Siamese breed, and Siam's the old name for Thailand (which is a primarily Buddhist society) I would call her Maya. Maya's was the name of the Buddha's mother, and I never could have believed at the time how perfect is would be for her! I broke up with my partner at the time - and there was never a question over who'd end up with our serene ball of fluff. Maya had clearly chosen me as her hooman, and rarely left my side. (As painful a decision as it must have been for Kam) Since then I've been through a few horrible relationships with highly narcissistic women, and recently lost my mother (who wasn't terribly nice herself, and left me with PTSD for abandonment as a child) and Maya's always been there to pull me through the hard times. I often find myself in tears thinking that I don't deserve her! She hates both my phone and PC, because they take some attention away from her. LOL! She's simply a gorgeous kitteh inside and out!
    Extremely devoted and caring, she's often fussing over me. (So much that I often call her chookie - because, well, mother hen!) She's _always_ by my side - or glaring at my phone and PC from s nearby chair because, well, already stated. The breeder once told me that I was to become a 'raggie slave' and she was SO right. Maya tries to do _everything_ with me. Being horribly afraid of water she also shows gorgeous bravery whenever I take a bath, and stands up on the side of it as if to say "are you sure you're all right?" I've had little real social interaction since my mother passed, and invested some of the inheritance on some things for Maya... A new cat fountain and automated feeder, I spread some "cat balls" (gall fruit) around my house, and got her a bunch of new toys.She's always walking up immediately after using them, as if to thank me for being so thoughtful.
    Her most gorgeous routine is that every night when I go to bed, Maya comes and 'asks' to be let under the covers. As soon as she can wriggle down underneath, she curls up pressed into the "little spoon" position and falls happily into a deep sleep. Amazingly she doesn't move a muscle until I get up the following morning, upon which she's extremely affectionate and loving. (After eating some nibbles) I can honestly say that the only downside I've found yet, is that Maya just recently turned 12, and it's started me thinking that she won't be with me forever. It's already the the source of deep regret, during which she always comes over to try "fix me" by licking me to death! I know that I'm going to be devastated beyond compare on losing her - I really don't know how I'll ever cope with it. I honestly wanted a dog, but so far she's been my life's best decision! She even stunned me when she started playing fetch as only a baby. As if simply instinctively knowing what I wanted, she'd 'kill' a toy mousie and trot over to place it proudly in my hand!
    If you're on the fence about getting a Ragdoll - just do it! Long after you've forgotten the costs involved, they'll still be giving you more daily laughs and affection than anything in the world - even a real hooman! It will undoubtedly take me a long time to get over the loss, but having watched a few of your videos and seeing how famously Teemo and Arya get along, I'm thinking that one day I might have to get a pair - just not until long after Maya has passed. I believe that learning to share me at a senior age will only repay all of the kindness she's shown me with breaking her heart... She's given me only the best of her (is there really a worst?) and deserves only the best of me in return!

    do rag dolls like to cuddle? I am thinking about getting one for my anxiety because my friend has cats and if I’m ever anxious they always cheer me up.

    Ragdolls are decent breed, but shed a lot. I would say Turkish Angora who also have long haired but shed less because of single coat, is much easier to be taken care of

    Oh my precious ragdoll fiona… she is a super kind and gentle cat but she refuses to sit on laps lol. Shes the least cuddly of my cats. Shes not from a very responsible breeder sadly tho. Im probably not going to get a purebred cat again but she’s so beautiful.

    I've have 2. One is not a lap cat one is. Buster is very loving,affectionate and so sweet. Buddy lets you rub his tummy but dosn't like to sit on you or get picked up. Their Maine isn't fully filled in until age five. They are known for heart problems. Buster lived 10 yrs. He was on heart meds for 2 yrs. Buddy has thyroid problems- he's 11. He's on special food. I've always had 2 cats - so their not lonely. Mine are excellent hunters. Their indoors but love to go outside with me in the nice weather on a leash. They catch moles and once a chipmunk just tied up and I let them go after they caught them. I'm getting a kitten to keep Buddy company in a couple weeks from a shelter. She is a tabby. I find they live much longer without all these health problems. I've had a couple live to
