Great message. It is up to you to make yourself happy but others can also make you happy. There is nothing wrong with being dependent on other people. No man is an island.

My mother is a kindergarten teacher, and brilliant at that, but that actually made her make really poor choices with me. I remember my very first trauma as vividly as if it had been yesterday. I was walking with my parents down a really busy street with shops on both sides of it (no cars, pedestrian zone) and I was exploring all the windows, flashy lights and colors. All of a sudden, I turned around looking for them, and they were gone, vanished into thin air, like a magician. I always had a very good sense of place, proximity, and especially "spiritual" connections, so I was stunned. I must had been around 3 years old. The world started warping around me, and I felt like fainting. I started crying in panic and running around trying to find them. After half a minute or so, they came out of some building entrance laughing at me, saying: "Haha, we got you there, didn't we? Now you'd learned that you must stick with us when we are outside the home because otherwise bad things can happen to you!" Yes, my mom's idea of teaching me a lesson, something she had been doing ever since. She even told me once: "Every life failure you make is my not only personal, but also professional failure." Well, now I'm 37, have two master degrees, half way trough my PhD, speak 5 languages but still live with them. Can't find work, can't find a proper girlfriend other than those who meticulously mirror my relationship with them, am deeply depressed, full of anxiety, more usual than not on the verge of suicide. Your videos help a lot. I just wish I could do more. With my life, that is. Thank you.

+DrUmSensitive bless you ! what an awful misguided thing to do! praying for healing to you &; all; maybe that's how ur parents were treated ? so repeating the family pattern?positive thoughts &; lots of love on your journey to peace &; self love xx so many ways to help now ; trust yourself; you will find ur way ; be gentle with yourself &; honour your feelings & needs;&; get all the support you can there are some great healing &; self love meditations free on you tube play them when ur anxious ; all night if necessary &; however intense ur fears \& emotions get ; allow then to flow thru you; find someone you can trust, a loving healer \ therapist\ friend ?can you talk to ur family? to help heal ...the pattern ...trust its all releasing to heal &; take 1 moment at a time, those feelings are terrifying to the child r but if u can breathe; be present, reassure ur inner child; remember you are able to process the feelings now. the more you accept them; but dont act on any negativity to harm yourself or others ; if u feel you cant handle the feelings ask the universe to guide you to a safe person to talk to & support ur healing. ; the intensity will lessen & you will feel less overwhelmed in time .Blessings xx xx

I think you just got to the root of co-dependency and narcissism and all other emotional disconnects. It's not about self-esteem like psychologists say; it's more about a bad love story about getting needs met, but no one is trying harder and that requires great self esteem. I think we damage more when we say it's a lack of self-esteem. Just a bad love story that needs to be rewritten. I hope you help change the false foundations that have been here damaging people further and now they can be set free. Thanks so much! Great job!!!

Thank you Teal! Thank you so so much. Your Wisdom, your Explanations, are much needed. Being self sufficient and hyper independent, has brought nothing but pain into my adult life. Getting applauded by everybody for being an independent woman, i always knew: this is not what i wanted. There was something missing. And now i understand, my yearning for, not dependency, but interdependency. Thank you Teal!

I agree, Teal. It is a trap I have been falling into myself whilst on my spiritual journey. Along with the video from last week I think it is fantastic and brave of you to mention what I would name shadow aspects of spirituality. Thank you very much indeed for your truly heartfelt and sincere insights.

There's a fine line to what you're saying teal, but it's about time someone told me what the hell I was feeling. This is exactly what I've been stuck in for the past few years and I always felt that I was alone and empty and that I earned more than just having to carry myself forward. I don't understand what you mean just yet because Im scared I think, but thank you for sharing. One day I'll be healed and won't be as angry anymore I'm hoping.

This week's video has mirrored my own personal struggle so closely , it is almost scary ,but at the same time comforting. This tells me i am now aligning with a vibration that can take me out of the redundant pattern that has seemed to dictate my life for so long! I wrote a rather inflammatory post last night on my Facebook and everyone thought it was just about being angry. It was instead me beginning to realize how i really feel. Now, maybe i can begin to end my resistance to what i feel and finally be free and self- trusting. i know this is not a cure-all , but from the core of my being , Thank you Teal, Always Love

Thanks for the work you do Teal. You are very wise. You practice Owl Medicine. You holds a mirror for others to look at themselves honestly. Some people aren't ready, and that is okay. Others who are ready may experience a powerful shift. It can be difficult to practice Owl Medicine because people will often project their anger or other similar emotions on you, which can be emotionally harsh. It requires sacrifice, and you are obviously good at sacrifice. Thanks again. You are helping to change the world in a very positive way.

Is it possible to be of both extremes? I feel I attract either relationships where I can't, or should not, trust or people that are too much about me and I feel guilty. I've been quite horrible to myself in the past and have a parent who would not only do things for me, but never really gave me a chance and then would make jokes about how I don't cook or clean and stuff like that. I moved and proved I can cook... Lol not very organized though. I'm in a weird position where I'm filing for disability and have no car money or anything. I HAVE to depend on others for things. I go back and fourth with how I feel about disability. I keep getting signs that although I feel stuck the answer is right there... nEwayz I closed my eyes and this video came up and was just the thing I needed to hear. Loving oneself is a prerequisite for engaging constructively with others (without co-dependence). When you seek love or other need-fulfillment from others without having achieved the ability to self-suffice, there is need which often gets expressed as desperation or a desire to control others in order to control the source of one's needs. In this way, interdependency/symbiosis without first establishing the ability to self-suffice can be an impetus for unfulfilling relationships with others.
Whether the relationship in question is emotional, economic, spiritual, etc. self-sufficiency is never a bad goal to strive for, even if it is not totally achieved, because the more self-sufficient one becomes, the less 'need' they feel toward controlling those others whom they may freely choose to interact with.
Beating oneself up about continuing dependency and failure in achieving self-sufficiency is just the ego getting in the way of progress. In reality, there are two approaches to interdependency: 1) one in which people simply expect their needs to be taken care of by others, often with the justification that there are some things they just can't do for themselves or 2) one in which interdependency is used as a means of empowering oneself to learn from others and become able to provide things for oneself and thereby gain resonance with those others who teach and learn through engagements of interdependency.
Every true and loving master of any skill would rather teach their skill to others than to keep them dependent on them for providing that skill, whether it is spiritual empowerment or some material or economic skill. What is better, a community or couple that MUST depend on each other because they cannot manage without each other or a community or couple that freely interact for reasons of their choosing despite the ability to suffice in the absence of others and their help?
Please don't give up on self-sufficiency and independence. It is both the ideal ultimate achievement of interdependent networking among individuals and the ideal state of an individual from which to enter into relationships of interdependency.

i think i don’t trust other people because i went through Hell getting to “know” myself from a place of fear and resisting myself that ultimately lead to me trying to love myself but now i feel like others can’t possibly love me because i associate the love i feel for myself with all that pain and struggle and i don’t want / can’t expect other people to go through the same pain just to love me. i isolate myself thinking i’m being independent when really i’m just protecting other people from myself, and protecting myself from other people. i was so afraid of myself i feel like i can’t trust other people to not be afraid of me. and if other people AREN’T afraid, if it doesn’t hurt them to love me, then that means that the pain i went through was completely unfounded and unreal, and it’s like i’m gaslighting myself. in order to accept that it might be easy for others to love me, i have to reject the part of myself that found it so difficult to love myself, and then i am abandoning myself. i feel like it’s a paradox i can’t escape. do i heal myself by trusting others or do i heal my relationship with others by trusting myself?
