    I wonder if this applies to the tires for life as well. HD told me I voided it bc I didn't get my 5K service with them. I just couldn't justify paying over $500 for an oil change and other maintenance that could be done by yourself if you have the service manual.

    We recently had a customer bring his bike in that had the Harley ESP. He bought the bike certified used. Long story short he needed new motor work from the crank to the head. Open the bike up it’s all non Harley stock. It wasn’t a 103 it was a S&S 106 with heads and all. Harley sent an inspector down and voided the warranty because it wasn’t Harley parts in there even though the customer bought the bike like that thru Harley. So glad they did passed this.

    I’m extremely glad to receive this information. I’m a relatively recent purchaser of a 2021 Harley Davidson Tri Glide Ultra. After less than two months of ownership
    I returned to my H. D. dealership to add a component that I thought I had to purchase from them, which was expensive. I was trying to obey the terms of the warranty, but the cost of the entire transaction was a complete surprise to me.
    After that matter, I started researching prices of aftermarket items for the vehicle and compared the H. D. prices with the threat of voiding my warranty with H. D. in mind, and discovered the difference was remarkable.
    Now this information is a relief and changes the aspect of future customization of my motorcycle.
    Again, I’m still new to ownership of this fantastic machine but after retiring from the retail industry and 21 years in the Air Force, I’m familiar with the business end of financial procedures and the manipulative process involved.
    Enough said, thank you for the valuable information. Stay safe in your travels.

    It’s about time. Now it raises another question. How will that apply to those who Harley Davidson have already declined their warranty. This could potentially cause more law suits and will cost them more in the long wrong. Which could potentially bankrupt them. It’s a win for the consumer but could be very bad for the company. Time will tell.

    • @MrMann-gt1eh
      @MrMann-gt1eh 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Maybe bad for the suits. Not the company. The brand is immortal. If some group of suits run it bankrupt someone else will just buy it and run it.

      This was kinda hit and miss not ALL dealerships voided warrenties because of the Magnusson-Moss act. If all HD stores did this then it would be a much bigger issue. So some owners will take a hit (for Example Big Boys Motors owns 3 dealerships in a given area ultimately those stores will have to take that hit covering denied claims the huge money drain may not get up to Harley itself as far as losing tons of money.) I think if Harley just did somehting as simple as prorate Warrenty coverage based on what you forfeited and most reasonable customers would be happy with that because of Brand Loyalty.

I’ve used PowerVision and aftermarket 2-1 exhaust on my last 3 bikes and they always work on my bike with no complaints my 21 FXLRS had motor issues and needed new heads they replaced them after I already used a PowerVision and 2-1 Sawicki exhaust I installed myself and they covered all costs. I think the thing to remember is that Harley would still have the ability to void your warranty if they can show that the parts/tune…. etc were responsible for the failure. It won’t stop them from being able to void warranties it’ll just make them give specific reasons and evidence as to why, beyond it being “non authorized parts or service centre”.

    I’m a tech at a Harley dealership, been doing it for 10ys. I wonder who covers the aftermarket parts in case of engine failure. I highly doubt the MoCo will be paying for them. They might cover the book labor time (this is usually way less than what it actually takes to do a specific job) and cost of the stock components and make the customer pay the difference in parts and labor, which is still a win.
    There’s a lot of variables that come into play. Add to that, that different dealerships charge different labor rates and different labor times for the jobs. It goes on and on and on.
    Maybe this will give me the push to open my own shop. Who knows?

    • @freebird7284

Around 2000 to 3000 miles the engine did not sound right. Took it in and they said it was normal and I needed to run the bike harder. At 5000 the engine let go. The dealer denied my warranty on the engine because of the tuner.

    Its cool if you have an aftermarket tuner. The best tuner in the game is an ECU though! From what I have heard if you had an issue while having the TMAX ECU you could just swap in your old ECU and it would be good. The damage that an aftermarket tuner could do is incredibly negligible so I'm glad this is happening. Every new Harley I have boughten I just ride completely stock for 2k miles. if anything doesn't happen within the first 2k you're good. from what I have heard this doesn't take effect potentially until late July so be careful with your new whips until this is confirmed!

    So. Just bought a 2022 Low Rider S last wk. And I’m thinking of doing a full exhaust and tuner myself. Actually, going to do it soon. If I’m understanding this correct, we, as consumers, can use third party products and take these machines pretty much anywhere to get them worked on too..? And it will not void the warranty? Also, just had my sales guy totally tell me that I should have Harley do the full system to maintain warranty. 🤔. By the way, dig your content!! 🤙🏽

    I used to work for Harley Davidson, for two years.
    I bought a 2016 streetbob, used in 2017, with 1700 miles on it.
    I blew it up 4 days into owning it. Had my shop tear into it and found that it was a flood bike. They bought the bike from auction with a clear title and it “cleared” the techs bill of health. Long story short, the bike was flooded in a garage and claimed on the home owners insurance, so that’s why it get totaled under the motorcycle insurance.
    So Harley bites the bullet and rebuilds my bike to the tune of $7k that they had to eat. At this point, I purchased the 2 year esp and start doing my normal mods I’d always do….exhaust, intake, tuner, etc….
    Fast forward 2 year to the end of my esp. I pull the bike in the shop and have the techs diagnose any problem they could find to get a fresh rebuild. Mind you, I was a member of a 1% club at the time, and during those two years I but 62k hard earned miles on that motor.
    So the tech comes back to me and says, yes, we’re going to rebuild the motor under warranty due to its flywheel being tight. Now the warranty comers the rebuild with stock parts. Any upgrades I’d have to pay the difference. I opted to upgrade the full cam chest, upgrade the heads, throttle body, better tuner, and a 110 big bore kit. Netting a $1700 out of pocket difference in upgraded parts with my employee discount. Awesome!!!!
    Here’s where it got scary for me. One of my upgrades before this was an FP3 tuner…techs have to call in corporate big wigs in to inspect the motorcycle to approve or deny the warranty claim. I was told that my tuner was going to void it, changing my out of pocket cost of $1700 to over $7000.
    I was shitting myself. I couldn’t afford to drop 7k on the bike and it was already disassembled and parts ordered.
    So fast forward a few weeks of going back and forth with corporate and worrying about the dollar amount…
    The tech that was doing the work was able to trick the big wigs into not seeing that I had married my tuner to my bike and there work was approved.
    If I weren’t an employee and friends with the master tech, I would have been screwed.
    I can’t tell you how often I saw customers get denied warranty work due to stupid little mods or having their bikes serviced at third party locations. It was really sad. I was glad to get away with one and I’m now happy to see that people won’t be getting screwed by Harley anymore.!!!!

      The Magnusen-Moss act does NOT APPLY to off-road use parts. In order for the act to be valid, the parts you use have to MATCH OEM SPECS....you cant simply slap a 575 cam in it that is completely different specs than stock and say you have a warranty brudda....

    • @W9HJBill
      @W9HJBill 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@redrider0151 EXACTLY. Tuners that violate the prior EPA ruling can't force Harley to warranty parts that are illegal (for on road use) and out of spec. IF that was the case then the EPA could once again sue HD and if they comply with the EPA then the FTC would sue HD. That is totally unfair and illegal.

    Actually, you can change the tuner on your Road Glide now if you wish- your factory warranty will be good (6:34 in your video). OEM motorcycle components outside of your powertrain are still covered under your 2 year limited/unlimited mile factory warranty. Harley-Davidson will deny powertrain warranty claims on motorcycles tuned using a tuning product not covered by a California Air and Resources Board Executive Order or not otherwise authorized by the United States Environmental Protection Agency.
    However, having an aftermarket tuner may get your bike's VIN flagged/blocked. What does that mean? It just means there is a flag on your VIN number that requires all warranty claims
    against your vehicle to be manually reviewed. Harley‐Davidson has always said (and other manufacturers have as well) that they aren't responsible to pay for repairs of aftermarket parts, or for repairs for the damages and defects caused by those aftermarket parts. That only seems fair to me.
    Take for instance my car: 2013 Ford Fusion -before Ford added the little LED strip of lights in the headlamps that look really cool. The new, OEM headlamps from Ford that had the LED lights in the headlamps were really expensive, and they weren't "plug and play". So I looked into getting a couple of LED light strips to install on my car -looked simple enough. But, when I asked the independent service shop to install them, they straight up told me that 1) There's always the potential for the lights to be installed wrong and they could end up blowing the whole electrical system; 2) They would not be responsible for any damages done to my car as a result of that installation. And that wasn't the dealer (although my Ford dealership did say the same thing)!!
    I do not think that any company should be held responsible if you added and/or installed another part that then caused the company's product to fail...

  • @texrgb

    So in other words, HD will go broke and a Chinese company will buy them out within 3 years..... I'm glad I'm not a manufacturer in the US, how do you control the quality of products of other companies??? Unfair and ridiculous. Every manufacturer should have the right to protect their product. None has to upgrade their machine, its your choice and like everything in life, making choices contains risks. I think this is wrong

    Harley is contractually obligated to enforce epa regulation, they were sued by the EPA and as part of the settlement Harley Davidson is required to void your power train warranty for replacing any part that impacts or allows you to change your emissions, like ecu, intake, exhaust, etc. So how will that ruling impact a contractual obligation to the goverment?

  • @theperson7718
    @theperson7718 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I just want to start off by saying that I in no way, shape or form work for or have any affiliation with Harley but with that said I don't think that's fare to Harley. I mean warranties aren't a given, there a courtesy to there customers to back the product they make in the event that a factory part fails. If you stick some joeblow cam in your bike and it grenades the engine then that's your fault, not Harley's and your warranty should be void. Personally I hope Harley answers back with just not simply offering a warranty at all, then if there part or yours breaks it will be on you either way and then will see who gets the last cry. That or simply don't buy a new bike. People buy new though for the piece of mind knowing that what they bought is covered for a short time, but I don't know where people started getting the notion that Harley or any other thing with a warranty should be responsible for other manufacturer's parts.

    Lets get something straight....you STILL cannot use anything that is "FOR OFF ROAD USE ONLY" which includes any aftermarket tuner, most exhausts, ALL cams, etc...(THEY ABSOLUTLEY VOID MANUFACTURERS WARRANTY) This is applying ONLY to them try to force HD only parts and labor. This means things like not using HD oil or having your oil changed there...routine maintenance via other shops etc...if you can PROVE you used an EPA APPROVED ON ROAD USE TUNER...then yeah, they cant void your warranty....however the ONLY ON ROAD USE TUNER IS HD's! When you use aftermarket parts, you have to use parts that FULFILL the OEM SPECIFICATION parts quality and use. This applies to things like using a third party part that fullfills ALL OEM Spec's......ie they cant tell you that you have to use a HD Battery, HD Oil, HD Spark Plugs....any third party part that maintains all OEM specs can be used and they cant whack your warranty....anything OUTSIDE OEM SPEC"S (ie performance parts that have no baffle, that bypass EPA specification, etc...) will ABSOLUTELY VOID YOUR WARRANTY. Moss-Magnusen does NOT give you protections for that.

      @redrider0151 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@willyafg Correct...but thats up to the individual dealership (that's not Corporate Harley saying they will warranty it via policy). What I am talking about is what they will be "Legally required" to warranty. If you blow your motor and its due to you running a lean condition while running a 2 into 1 exhaust, and you are at a different dealership...they are NOT going to be required to warranty your motor....they "may" do it, but they wont be forced to.

    Tuners will most likely be still off the table because the EPA sued and spanked Harley for installing tuners that were not street legal EPA compliant. Now if the FTC comes in and says "No, you have to warranty those parts that make the bike illegal and will get you fined by the EPA". That puts Harley between a rock and a hard place and isn't likely legal or fair regardless what the FTC says and they will fight it in court.
