Not to beleaguer the point, but a few years ago Phil said “I don't really love this idea that for every one of our games, there becomes this little rumor on it ‘is it going to end up on the Switch or not.’ I feel we should set a better expectation with our fans than that." If he actually believes that then they need to make it clear how these decisions are made because they have not done a good job of setting expectations with fans and that is why everyone gets bothered and lets their imaginations run amok.
I agree that there is definitely a mixed messaging problem at MS if this rumor is true and Hi-Fi Rush is indeed coming to Switch, but at the same time this is nothing new and it's not really that big of a deal. MS did this with other smaller-scale games like Ori 1 and 2, they did this with As Dusk Falls, and they might do this with Hi-Fi Rush. Seems like most AAA singleplayer releases won't come to other platforms though. Don't expect Starfield, Gears 6, Indiana Jones, Hellblade 2, or even Hi-Fi Rush 2 (at launch) to come to PS5 or Switch 2. My guess is the reasoning behind this might be to appease regulators to prove that MS only makes games exclusives on a case-by-case basis. So when Microsoft goes out and acquires their next publisher (probably SEGA or Square Enix), they can point out Hi-Fi and Ori on Switch and say "see? We don't make every game permanently exclusive to our platforms!" That way, when they acquire their next publisher, they can make some of their games multiplat and some of them exclusive
1:46:27 I remember in some Rare vault article reference to a Banjo-Threeie that retold the first game with surprise twists and evolutions. I honestly think this is the best path forward - go ham with a totally new Stop N Swop function, make the scrapped worlds. Surprise old gamers, delight new ones.
The rumoured exclusive could be halo. When the new studio lead at 343 stepped into role he published a sort of open letter to employees where he talked about bringing halo to more players on more platforms than ever before. Bringing halo infinite to PS could actually be smart considering it’s F2P multiplayer, bigger player base = greater revenue and support for investment. They could also bring halo MCC to PlayStation, get some extra revenue from legacy titles while keeping the more modern halo stuff exclusive to Xbox. On the broader topic of why would MS bring games to other platforms, I think the key point is they sell them for $70 on those other platforms while they include them in game pass on Xbox. You get enough PS or Switch owners playing and enjoying Microsoft games at full retail prices and over time you could start to see those players moving to wherever they can get game pass. How many PS owners might buy the next gen xbox to get gamepass if the next 3 call of duty games land in game pass day 1? The same could hold true for current xbox exclusives, sell Gears of war 6 for $70 on PlayStation while you offer it for $13 a month on gamepass and see how long people are willing to keep paying full retail. If enough players start leaving PlayStation for Gamepass you might see Sony warm to the idea of having games pass on PlayStation if they can at least take a cut of the sub. I think that’s Microsoft’s ultimate ambition, they don’t want to replace PlayStations with Xboxes, they want to turn every PlayStation, switch, pc, phone, ROG ally, steam deck, and any other box with a processor in it into an Xbox by having it run gamepass
@@daksans6764 gamepass is the corner stone of their whole strategy. Microsoft are a software and cloud company first and foremost, gamepass is the synergy between the Xbox brand and the company’s overall strategic vision. You aren’t really explaining your opinion, just disagreeing with mine

Personally I don't expect GP changing the narrative for COD. PS is the default console, Europe demonstrated that GP is not enough to bring people to the platform. GP by itself is not in a public discourse to make a difference.
If they part some and not others then it brings up the conversation, is it ported to playstation because it's worth being on playstation and these other games aren't good enough. That's how the other fan bases will spin it. Put them all everywhere if that's your strategy or don't put any at all.
"The only reason Nintendo/PlayStation give an F about backwards Compatibility and Online is because of Xbox" Not technically true, playstation had online before Xbox even made a console, PS4 was the only console not to be backwards compatible 🤷 Sure we can thank Xbox for charging to play online which made playstation want that free money

I have to disagree with nick saying this is because we're afraid that the console will go away. Well at least thats not mine. My issue is that i want to know if i should continue to invest into the xbox ecosystem or just sell my xbox and put all my money into playstation. If eventually xbox goes 3rd party. Why would i own 2 consoles when one of them plays xbox, playstation and 3rd party games and the other only plays xbox and 3rd party?
I've said that myself. My point though, is that I like Xbox consoles more. It's where I prefer to play for reasons OTHER than games. If everyone ends up thinking like you and they just buy a PlayStation because ALL the games end up there, then where are we? With no Xbox consoles. Because why would Microsoft keep bleeding billions making consoles if they're going to sell less and less of them.
Xbox is not going 3rd party and they bringing their 1st party & 3rd party exclusives to the Switch or Playstation (except for ESO, Fallout 76, and COD), end of the story 💯.
They won't sell much. We clearly saw with leaks that aside their big IPs - nothing else sells and Sony cannot generate enough money. And Rebirth won't even reach FF7R as we saw with FF16 that as IP FF is not big enough.
Yes. 5 million copies of FF16 is a failure. Absolutely. Most multilateral games don't even sell that. And clearly, Xbox games don't sell considering they are putting them on Nintendo and Playstation now.
