Man, I wished I had a couple of lessons with him during my junior golf days.. would probably saved 5 years of my life with all the stress I put myself through as a junior
The Ernest Jones method as taught by Mr. de la Torre is the simplest golf swing. I read his book and practiced his method. For full shots it eliminates over thinking. Grip and ball position are contrary to accepted teaching methods. It does get more complicated when he teaches about controlling flight, fading and drawing the ball and bunker play. I can't play or practice often, I felt I did lose some distance but I think I that was the result of not fully committing to revamping my swing and staying with it.
De la Torre's club-focused approach to making a golf swing enable proficiency must more efficiently. Regarding distance, you may find that your distance is different for one or both of these reasons: your ball flight has a higher trajectory, or anytime we learn something new we always performing more slowly at first as our subconscious refines the task.
With most golf instruction, they fill your head with a lot of garbage. With Mr. de la Torre you can throw all the BS out the window and be free to play this great game.
When it comes to golf, there are the "essentials" and the "peripherals". Manuel knew the difference. Ball flight is a function of just four factors: center contact, clubface square to target line at impact, swing path along target line, enough club speed to get the ball to the target. He could quickly identify which was the problem for a player and could efficiently coach them to make the needed change.
What a brilliant man and teacher... RIP Manuel
Justin Eller I share your sentiments. Thanks for dropping a note
Priceless, thank you for posting this. From an instructor point of view, need to watch this again and again to remember every single word he said...
He was an unequalled master of the golf swing
Manuel was such a gifted teacher, with a refreshingly simple approach to the game. Wish I could have had a lesson with him
I am very grateful for the many hours I spent with him.
Great story about the lady at the end, thank you for sharing!

His lessons were remarkably effective
@Leo Chang Ditto!!
The look on his face says it all....no matter how simply I explain it to the interviewer he still wants to make it more complicated!
Sad but true. You can witness the unnecessary complexity in so many lessons.
