      Thanks but I’m just a plain gyro pilot that loves flying gyros. I was a licensed flight instructor in them as well.

      The other from Rotorfest 2012 is much better. I actually shut the engine OFF. Thanks Mike. Never give up, never surrender.

      It was a good engine. Honda Civic. Smooth and enough power when I wanted it. It was only 11 years old at the time, guess someone added a zero.!!! Hoping to get my Rotorfest 2012 autorotation loaded soon. I actually shut the engine off for that one and it was a better,... no roll landing in the grass.

      There is another I hope my grandson gets posted. In that one (Rotorfest 2012) I actually shut the engine off and you can see the prop stopped. It was also a "no-roll" landing. Maybe soon.

    Very excellent. How did you solve the problem power push over(PPO)???

    • @christopherburgessgyro-cfi12
      @christopherburgessgyro-cfi12  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That problem is not "solved" but managed. In this demo with no engine, PPO is not a problem. Power Push Over means just about that. With power it can show it's ugly head. The higher the trustline the easier it is to PPO. The first thing you do is take away all the power. This action alone will help keep you from becoming a statistic. Then you load the rotor with means nose up or slightly above the horizon. The PPO has been shown in several videos on-line. In every case I've seen, the "victim" never reduced throttle. The result is, especially if the rotor is not loaded, a quick snap over the nose which quickly becomes fatal.

      Watch this video, I feel it is so much better because the engine is actually shut down. th-cam.com/video/W4hUC3SxBBQ/w-d-xo.html

    Hey Chris hey, did you make this from plans or did you purchase it? I really would love to have a two-seater to have someone trained me but I weigh 280 lb and I'm six foot three tall. My son is just a little under me, prolly 230 lbs. If I was trained with this carry both of us? Or are gyros probably out of the question. I've always had a fascination with gyros because of the concept of how they fly being in a constant state of stalled. At least that's how it was once described to me. Thank you for your opinion God bless.

      Yes it was a kit, built from plans. I restricted my front passenger weight to 230 lbs. I was 160-175 in those days. Not sure in all of today's gyros just which ones you might be able to fly in. Yes, gyros and airplanes don't lend themselves to the heavier pilots. When you add in your son at 230, together you would have a problem. You can leave fuel behind to a point but then you limit how long you can fly. I can't remember the numbers but the TwinStarr tandem could handle heavier pilots. I think I took up a fellow that was 285 lbs at one of the PRA Fly-ins. Wish I had more info for you but you just need to ask around in the Gyro-CFI community. Let them know your weight up front because many of them may not be able to help. Gyros are in a constant state of "Autorotation", the rotor is NOT driven. They are NOT in a stall.
      Search "Rotorfest 2012", go to 28:00 on the time line and you will see my autorotation with the engine actually "shut off". Prop is stopped.

      With a properly placed cable, planes could also “kite”, with a proper wind.

      Jerry Eastman, my grandson is working on more. He’s a great entrepreneur. Jerry, somewhere I have video of you buzzing by in your WindRyder at Mountain City, long ago in that beautiful gyro you flew over 1000 miles in one trip. There is another better video where the engine is actually “off”. He’s going to get that one up soon.

      Grandson put up another for me. You might be interested. It was an engine failure I had in the first WindRyder I flew back in 1989. The one with you flying by in yours at Mountian City will be loaded soon I hope.
