People can say anything about Ross as a character , but David Schwimmer is the best actor for sure , he even made Ross "likable" sometimes and a lot of times
Ross is a great character. Was he a toxic boyfriend to Rachel? Yes. But she was a toxic girlfriend to him. Some people just bring the worst to each other
@@ΑΡΙΣΤΟΤΕΛΗΣΛΑΧΑΝΟΠΟΥΛΟΣ actually , i already said in the comments the truth about Ross and Rachel : Ross was the worst thing that happened to Rachel and Rachel was the worst thing that happened to Ross
I agree with your criticism about Susan. She just seemed to be cruel to Ross for no reason, and you'd be surprised that Carol never calls her out on treating her ex horribly.
Anyone who willingly cheats with someone they know is married has no right to be disrespectful to the victim. It pissed me off when they were completely disregarding everything Ross wanted when it came to Ben as if Susan’s word was above his. Ross and Carol were his parents and should’ve been the ones making the decisions. I could understand if Ross was a dead beat, but he wasn’t. He was very much involved
@@whosaprettykitty5076 remember when ross walked carol down the aisle when she got married to susan 🤷🏻♀️ yeah they really did him dirty the whole show tbh
Not defending any of this, but siblings surrogating for each other actually does happen sometimes. Since the egg wouldn't be hers, even though she's carrying it the baby wouldn't be created with her DNA.
Yeah, I’ve actually considered it just as normal an occurrence. When a woman can’t carry her own child to term it’s not uncommon for them to not be trust anyone other than family to surrogate.
There are many stories of mothers doing it for their children, siblings doing it for their siblings, etc. I can understand some people being weirded out by that, but it’s just a different way to create life. There’s no sex or incestual thing going on, it’s a BIG and ABSOLUTELY GENEROUS thing someone could do.
Funny thing about Susan and Ross is that, in the episode where Susan and Carol get married, there's a scene towards the end in which Susan thanks Ross for encouraging Carol to marry her, and they end up dancing together, it was a nice moment and could've signified a turning point where both characters have some respect for one another, but all future appearances of Susan consist of "lol fuck you Ross" and said respect seemed to be only temporary. I'm not saying they had to be best friends but it would've been nice for their "relationship" to have some development.
I really think all three of them were terrible. Carol literally cheated on Ross and everyone just ignores it, Ross is a "Nice Guy" and it's played off as sympathetic and endearing when it isn't, and Susan is exactly as you said, a man hating lesbian stereotype. The dynamic between the three of them was just gross.
@@MorrisseyMuse No they meant Nice Guy(tm) they’re the kind of guys who think they’re entitled to a girls affection because ‘they’re a nice guy’ (ie meet the minimum standard of not being a domestic abuser ) but are actually as shallow, selfish and unpleasant as he perceives the ‘jerks’ they moan about their obsession dating. Actually good guys are different to guys complaining how a girl won’t date them because they’re ‘nice’
The funny thing about the whole situation was Susan...never at any point in Carol's pregnancy...had ANY rights to that child yet there she was acting like she did lol
i'm so glad you called out Susan on her horrible toxic behaviour. no matter Carol''s personal issues about what was going on in her head about her acceptance of her true self, Susan had an affair with a married woman and hated Ross for having a romantic relationship with Carol, previous who was married too at the time. She tried to take over the pregnancy, the name of the baby, and make it all about her. casually forgetting that legally she had no rights at all. she even wanted Ben to have her last name, instead of Geller. She really was manipulative, toxic and looking it through another lens. was Susan manipulated to leave her husband to be with her, while also gaslighted to believe and go along with everything Susan said. remember that Susan's was Carol's first relationship with her own gender outside the remarriage as we know, which means in a power dynamic Susan was holding all the cards the fact that at the time same marriage was hardly ever depicted in media at all, so instead of having someone who came in, fell in love with Susan after she split up with Ross, and then Susan found out she was pregnant, and was presented as a decent person with a new dynamic and was friendly to ross, and learning how to co-parents. instead, we got Susan, who just hated Ross on sight. the whole thing really should have been done better
I agree, they kinda made same sex marriage and relationships look bad because of it. Everyone can have flaws sure and this could happen (rarely) but they chose to present a same sex relationship in a really negative way, demonising it instead of showing how "normal" they can be and are. It really sucked tbh :/ Furthermore people having flaws doesn't excuse toxic behaviour in any way. They could've presented her as having some flaws but still being a relatively good person.
I mean yeah the age gap with Richard was weird but it's also the whole reason it didn't work out: He had already lived a full life and had kids and everything, Monica hadn't experienced that and wasn't gonna force him to go through it again
@jermaine tobin it may seem odd to some, but fact is she ain't a child anymore so live and let live. If they don't have a problem with that fact, then so what?
@@mayawood4346 yea that was the main prob for me like he watched his best friends kids grow up then decided “huh Monica lost a shit ton of wait I better tap that”
YES SUSAN WAS AWFUL! THANK YOU! Another thing was she didn’t even want the baby to have his father’s surname but her own!! Unbelievably disrespectful, especially as the baby having her surname made no sense as her and Carol had only been dating. I will never understand those that like her but don’t like Ross.
I've never heard of anyone who prefers Susan over Ross. Hence, I don't know why people here talk as if nobody realizes how bad she is. If anything, it's Monica's mom that deserves more hate.
I loved how with Ben, Ross wasn't allowed to have his son share his last name, then when Emma is born and the doctor asks the childs surname which he responds Greene only for Rachel to respond "no- Gellar Greene".
They all have gone through "Flanderization" until the end. The act of taking a single (often minor) action or trait of a character within a work and exaggerating it more and more over time until it completely consumes the character. Monica got the worst of it because at least Joey and Phoebe were funny in their stupidity while Monica really wasnt with her OCD tidyness.
Not really, Phoebe goes to night school to catch up on all the highschool she missed out on. She'd even self taught herself French while she was homeless. Rachel immediately starts her transformation in the very first episode going from a barbie doll to working in fashion at a higher level. I think the Monica thing makes sense, she had to be strict and unforgiving to lose what? 120 or so pounds in one year, and then to keep that off for the remaining years? People tend to be clean like this, tend to be like that their entire lives. I have a friend who's mother is a janitor all her life (don't knock, she can make a lot of money depending on which company she's contracting to). She's now 42 and has taken on ALL of her monthers cleaning habits. There's not even any scuff or smudge of anything on the back of her toilet (she just meme'd about this on FB and showed us how clean the back of her toilet is. lol). Her mother is now 67 or something and she's still as obsessed about her house being clean as she was when I was 5 an friends with her son. I think what you're trying to say is that you're trying to dicdtate that a joke isn't funny unless YOU find it funny. It's fine, but there are other jokes that will play into other people. Let's throw out your favorite series and let's dive into their flaws, every show has them.
I would say both Joey and Monica got the worst of it because Monica became insufferably neurotic and Joey became so dumb that it makes us question how he even lives without a guide
The term Flanderization is fucking stupid.l, cuz Ned Flanders NEVER Changed. He was always a Religious Nut. There are a billion better examples they could have named the term after.
I'm surprised you didn't bring up Emily, Ross' second wife. You did show a pic of her but her whole relationship with Ross felt rushed just so we could get a trip to London out of it. The end of the relationship was also super unsatisfying and ultimately had no payoff.
She was supposed to be in the show longer (the marriage was originally meant to last longer) but the actress got pregnant and they didn’t want to work around it or write it into the script.
People exaggerate about Emily. She wasn't that bad. Ross is the one who said Rachel's name at their wedding. Ross is the one who went with Rachel on their honeymoon. Tbh, I think a lot of people in her position wouldn't trust Ross or Rachel in that situation. And Emily was kind of right not to trust Ross because he clearly was still in love with Rachel
@@MysticClaws100 From a character point of view I think she's fine. Hell I even liked her for most of her time on the show. My main complaint I suppose is how the writers used her character to milk out more Ross and Rachel drama. Someone in this thread mentioned the real reason why her storyline was so short, so that does address part of my problem with the character.
Absolutely. Loving something doesn't mean it should be above criticism! I've rewatched friends like 10 times and I love it dearly but there's still quite a few scenes I skip every time cause they're just too cringe or problematic to me. I try to keep in mind that the show started almost 30 years ago and is, in many ways, a product of its time. And honestly, it's among a very small selection of sitcoms that I can watch and find funny and entertaining most of the time.
@@LeRodz I'd have to go through that video again and that's not something I'm willing to do. I don't say Friends may not be criticized, I'm just saying these particular criticisms make no sense.
I always thought Rachel had really weird and cheap romantic storylines after Ross. Which was lame because Ross had multiple girlfriends who were gorgeous and smart. They did Rachel dirty.
That's cuz they were strictly tools to keep a wedge between Ross and Rachel, but not get completely in the way of the two of them getting back together.
Ross is awful in a lof of things , he is an awful boyfriend and Rachel is an awful girlfriend and also she only likes awful men , she only dated awful men throughout the series , except Joey
Rachel and Ross getting back together at random, isn't really random. I remember binge watching the show a few years back and you realize that almost every finale Ross and Rachel get together only for the premier of the next season to rip them apart because it's to early. Their relationship is just used to create a holy shit moment for the climax of a season and then forgotten about because it's not the end of the show yet
You missed more stuff about Rachel imo. While I agree with all the stuff about Ross, everyone seems to gloss over how jealous Rachel got over Ross's girlfriends too. -She begged him to take Emily off her hands so she could go on a date with Joshua, stating that she thought they were at a point where they could be happy for each other... but then was sour that Ross and Emily got along really well. After he announced that he and Emily would be getting married, she tries to push her relationship with Joshua closer to marriage to just be "even" with Ross. -She allowed Phoebe to set Ross up with Bonnie, under the guise that Phoebe said she was bald. And then when she turned out to be not bald, Rachel gets mad at Phoebe. Once Bonnie shows up to the beach to be with Ross, Rachel becomes (understandably) miserable. She convinces Bonnie to shave her head, knowing that superficial Ross will not like it. Then after he breaks it off with Bonnie to be with Rachel, she refuses a kiss (even though she kissed him before while Ross was still with Bonnie) and writes the infamous 18-page front and back letter blaming Ross for all their prior problems. -She was extremely rude to Julie and again kissed Ross while he was still with her. Julie was super cool and was probably the best suited for Ross but because of Ross's long crush on Rachel, he breaks things off with Julie. Obviously, the pros and cons list was not nice (again, I'm not saying that Ross is a good guy but we know that already) but Rachel essentially makes Ross break up with Julie only to immediately break up with Ross. -On her birthday she kisses Gavin on the balcony of Monica's apartment and then gets mad when Ross brings that obsessive lady into his apartment (and Rachel calls it HER apartment), and glosses over the point that Ross makes about how he was taking care of their daughter whilst she was kissing Gavin. -Even though Rachel didn't do anything with Mark while she was with Ross, Mark comes over while they were on a break, and Rachel doesn't really stop him. Not only that, but Mark was the first guy that she went out with after their breakup. -And lastly, Rachel is a selfish sore loser. If things work out the way she wanted them to, she'll march around and give people half-baked advice about how they just have to be better and if she can do it, then so can they. But when she doesn't get her way, it has to be everyone's problem. i.e. after Ross and Rachel break up, and Ross is the only one who can rescue them from car troubles, she forces her friends to keep freezing just because she doesn't want to deal with Ross. When Joey stupidly bids a lot on the boat, she doesn't care if Joey can't afford the boat, and nearly forces him to buy it so that her boss won't get mad at her. When they play the trivia game betting on the apartment, Monica even calls her out when they lose saying that if Chandler and Joey lost, she would've made them give up the birds while not wanting to give up the apartment. There's probably more, but this comment is already way too long. Sorry! Good video Vee Infuso!
Also Rachel is a HORRIBLE friend to Monica. Monica is consistently loyal and generous to Rachel while Rachel constantly makes Monica feel small and makes her talk about the Thanksgiving when Chandler called her fat!
One Continuity error that always sticks out for me is when they had a whole ass episode title "The one where chandler can't cry" were they out of nowhere portray Chandler as an emotionless robot that has never shed a tear in his life. But there were moments before were he cried like when he propose to Monica or When ross ask both him and joey to be his best men at his 2nd wedding
when I first watched the show, I didn’t mind Monica and Richard’s relationship too much, but the more times I saw the show and noticed more details, I realized how gross it was! Richard and his family lived in the same neighborhood as Monica and Ross’ family while they were growing up, Richard had kids the same age as Monica and Ross, and was BEST FRIENDS with Jack and Judy Geller. Ross even said “he’s like a BROTHER to Dad” imagine growing up with this man who is basically your uncle, and then having a serious relationship with him?? (and also kissing his son a couple years later) also imagine watching your best friends kid grow up, and then being attracted to her?? it’s a no from me.
One thing I hated that I don’t think gets brought tip much is how much meaner Monica gets, and not even in a funny way. Like how she acts during Phoebe’s rehearsal dinner to me is the perfect example of this
I really dislike clipshows in general because they always feel very lazy. Just like dream séquences. Almost every sitcoms including great ones had dream séquences that went on forever and felt like a filler for lack of creativity
@@brandonayong5823 I was also over them as soon as collecting dvds became a thing but you gotta put yourself back in the 90s.. At the time clipshows was my favorite episodes of any show because you got all the best parts in one episode.. Some of the fresh prince ones I still love to this day

@@brandonayong5823 true, they did tend to throw in bloopers and alternative takes which I guess helped allot.. But I didn't dislike clipsshows in general until I was able to bingewatch shows which made them kind of pointless
Clip shows existed in an era when people didn't have or want to spend money on buying the whole series on vhs to rewatch episodes, or could go online to reewatch shows, so if they wanted to remind the audience of something that happened a few years ago... they would use clipshows
I agree, back in the day if I started to watch a show in the middle of its run let's say, I relied on clip shows to kind of catch up so I can understand better all the goings-on
Nah, even back then clip shows were (rightly) seen as a cheap cash grab. I don't wanna wait a week to see my fave show only to see it's parts of episodes I've already seen! clip shows should be reserved for nostalgia of old series years after they've finished.
Look at this : Ross left Julie / reason : Rachel Ross left Bonnie / reason : Rachel Ross left Emily / reason : Rachel Ross left Jill / reason : Rachel Ross left Katie / reason : Rachel The point is Ross shouldn't have lefting a lot of women because of Rachel , it's not worth leaving a lot of great women because of a only one woman

Yeah and if the writers felt like they needed to “build” a main couple they could’ve done it with Phoebe and a partner and/or Joey and a partner or just build a relationship between the two
I might be in the minority but I thought the Ben Stiller role mentioned by Vee was pretty funny. Especially when he seemed like such a sweet guy to everyone but Ross.
Tom Selleck was good imo. Not in the watchability sense, but his relatively normal character helped me see all the problems F.R.I.E.N.D.S had that I had come to accept out of habit.
I didnt mind the triplets storyline tbh, it came from a kind place and wanting to help her brother, and also proved thorugh a huge gesture that she finally accepted her brothers relationship with Alice as real and legit
I concur, there's NO WAY that they'd get away with that plot line in a post "Me Too" environment. The boss could get easily sued for sexual harassment if this episode were made today.
The absolute worst thing Friends ever did was show Tom Selleck without his moustache. This is television sacrilege. Everything else pales in comparison.
If I'm not mistaken, the Chandler going to Tulsa arc happened after the team found out about Matthew Perry's drug issues, and the decision was made so he would be on the show less and get help.
Ross Geller, as a character, can be very awful sometimes… however, David Schwimmer, the actor, played him to perfection! David’s great comedic skills are undeniable
I don't see anything wrong with Phoebe being a surrogate to her brothers child. That happens a lot actually in real life. It is recommend to ask someone you are close to than a stranger. Just saying research on this stiff. It is weird but it isn't bad
That's just the Celebrity Paradox. They also use Winona Ryder's name to get a restaurant reservation in an early season, for example, and she eventually appeared on the show.
Susan really bugged me. Carol cheating on Ross gave him a lot of trust issues and issues with jealousy which affected his relationship with Rachel. And for Susan to be so rude and rub it in is just awful. Especially to take over the whole pregnancy really pissed me off. A lot of younger people do actually like Susan and think she’s a badass or whatever. I see it online sometimes and i don’t know it just rubs me the wrong way. I know it’s just a show but if that was to happen in real life, nobody would be on her side. And people would understand why Ross was such a jealous person in relationships and didn’t trust anyone. Because he was cheated on. Whatever this show is good but it also sucks
Me too, upon rewatching the show, Susan just becomes more unbearable and unnecessarily cavalier each time. I know that she was insecure about Ross still hanging around her and Carol, and she knew that if Carol wasn't gay, that she would still be married to Ross, but it still makes her a hard character to like all the same.
@@trinaq yes! all of this aside, her attitude was terrible. I’ve met a few people with an attitude like hers and it makes me so angry! How can people like this character? A lot of them are young people. I’m only 19 so I am young, but people who are 14ish who think this is so cool. You act like that in real life nobody will love you. Friends is a classic show and I love it but at this point I put it on in the background to watch when I’m home alone.
@@daisy-ee8ki I think a lot of the people, regardless of age, who like and defend Susan are the same kind of people that think that gay people are inherently perfect solely because they are gay. I'm not saying there's anything inherently wrong with them either, but even if you take into account the possibility that Susan might be insecure about Ross and Carol's relationship post-marriage, it still doesn't make her behavior any less deplorable. Normal people can deal with jealousy and insecurity without devolving into a number of choice words that the TH-cam bots would erase my comment for using.
@@MoostachedSaiyanPrince I partly agree with you on that one. I understand it must’ve been weird for both of them. But even though it’s a show, I sometimes can’t help but think about what it would be like in real life. And how broken people become when they go through a divorce. Especially if the significant other was cheating on you and then came out as a lesbian and is pregnant with your baby AND the women she was cheating on you with also takes care of your son. Also about the gay thing you mentioned. I agree and disagree. A lot of people now like her because she’s a lesbian which is weird to say but if she was a man people would call him a bitch and wouldn’t stick up for him. I am a woman who is bi so I’m not homophobic at all. Just had to clarify incase anyone came at me for saying that in the comments. But it’s true. I just can’t get my head around it. I saw one Instagram comment saying ‘no wonder carol cheated on Ross with her’ and I know it’s a show I’m not stupid. But I just, some of these people man. A lot of people now try and ‘cancel’ Ross for being ‘problematic’ which just ruins the character for me sometimes because people won’t stop bringing it up. Like when he was weird about the male nanny which was slightly strange and annoying, but there was a reason to it. A reason I can relate too. His dad was a mans man and did like Ross to be anything girly at all. He wanted him to go outside and all that. Idk there’s just always reasons to why people act the way they do. Once again I know it’s a show I’m not one of those weirdos but it does annoy me. Friends is a classic show but some of the jokes wouldn’t survive in today’s climate, even if it was popular. I obviously wasn’t alive when it came out but I did love watching it as a child and just thought it was a nice show with a nice apartment with nice people who were all attractive. anyways sorry for that long paragraph I know I might have repeated myself a lot but I just. I used to be a huge fan of friends to the point where it’s all I watched for a year straight. Not kidding. And I know it inside out. And I have all this pent up anger towards the show that I can’t take out on my friends because they think the show is basic. ANYWAY getting off track. Susan sucks end of story.
Your point about Susan being rude to Ross is incredibly valid. Does that make you wonder if that would explain why Jack Gellar refers to Emma as his first grandchild and totally forgetting about Ben? I always thought that Jack & Judy Gellar resented Carol for cheating on Ross with Susan.
SJWs trying to come for Chandler for being "transphobic" about his father, in spite of the fact passing "jokes" revealed Chandler's father attempted to kidnap him, once had a gay orgy in front of him, and would frequently go to his son's public school events dressed in full drag (Carmen Miranda was used as the punchline, with Chandler's dad passing out the fruit from his headpiece to Chandler's friends) in order to humiliate his ex-wife. Chandler's father, whether a drag queen, crossdresser, or a transgender woman, was not a good father and emotionally abused his son to get even with his ex.
Given all the hatred in the comments about certain characters, it surprises me that Judy Geller doesn't get enough hate for how she treats Monica w/ zero development whatsoever.
I don’t blame Chandler being transphobic in the beginning, his father was the reason for some of his problems, and yes the mom not being there to help him during that period was her fault as well. However, even gay people would not have blamed Chandler as a child should not have to go through that, it’s a painful part of that child’s life. And let’s not forget that when Ross and Rachel were forcing their friends to pick after there heartbreaking break up, he started smoking again and it brought back painful memories of his parents divorce. I’m in no way transphobic but I would not ever blame Chandler and he did accept his father in the end. The problem with the current generation is that they only hear or see this part of Chandlers arc and automatically smell blood. Research before you judge
One thing you missed was the constant fluctuation of the friend’s financial situation. It’s weird considering the only one who was rich was Rachel. Everyone else was middle class at most. There’s also the fact that 2 bedroom New York sky view apartments with balconies aren’t cheap. In some episodes they’re eating out and going to expensive parties, and in others they’re lamenting about debt and having to shop at thrift stores. I think this was done on purposes since if the friends were too rich, then they’d be unrelatable. If they were too poor, then they’d be too relatable.
I will defend Ross to the death for what is essentially bad writing. They really massacred him at times and those are the ones people remember. The male nanny thing was so out of character that it made absolutely no sense for him to behave that way. The cousin thing was, again, horrendously bad writing. The only one I think could be explained is Ben and the barbie, only because Ross was constantly being sidelined by Carol and Susan and was constantly missing out on stuff. He's not right to do what he did but a) this was 1995 and b) it was one way of him actually having control over something. By the end of the episode he'd pretty much realised he was being an idiot and it never came up again. Rachel was the most toxic character out of the lot of them. If people put as much effort into her as they do into Ross they'd realise she's an absolute piece of trash.
I'm pretty sure when Rachel is planning to leave for Paris she mentions Emma is staying with her mom while Rachel goes ahead to settle in and Mrs Greene would bring her over later. So many people seem to overlook this.
Also as for Chandler, I think people who call him transphobic don't realise, he has just as bad a relationship with his mom, and it's shown that not only did his parents have a messy divorce he was caught in the middle of, but both were equally terrible in how they were flaunting their sexuality in front of Chandler growing up and making him massively uncomfortable. Best illustrated by his mom just going to suck face with Chandler's closest friend the moment she gets a chance.
Even though I am die hard Friends fan, you made some valid points, especially Ross. I don´t understand one thing... you criticize development of some characters and then you say as example plots from first season (Joey losing Ben, Monica and her identity thief). It does not makes sense. IBtw. T hink most of the cameos were so insignificant, because these actors were not such big stars yet.
Black or Checkered haha ikr! i’m not defending it! it’s just what they said! 🤷. also i should’ve been clearer, they meant it to show that is is a bad idea to have friends date just because they’re friends, not that it was a bad idea to include it on the show. that part is a given lol
What I hate about alot of shows is if they have a dumb type character..they just make them more dumb season after season..spongebob with patrick, family guy with Peter, Simpson's with homer, american dad with stan, and etc. It really fucked up those shows.
I'm THAT GUY who watched several months of Friends on reruns and laughed ONCE. The scene is Joey and Chandler in a waiting room and Joey is sleep deprived or something of the like. And Joey proceeds with his How You Doin? where Chandler asks him if he came on to the entire room
I love the show, but can recognize it’s flaws. I am not a fan of on again/off again relationships and Ross and Rachel’s annoyed me. She wanted him when he was moving on and when he wanted her, she wanted nothing to do with him. That’s why when Monica and Chandler got together, it was a relief because they became such a stable couple. The difference between Ross and Rachel (who the writers made the main couple) and Chandler and Monica is that C and M deal with their problems and the personality traits that can be overbearing (like Chandler’s fear of commitment or his need to substitute humour in situations that don’t require it or Monica’s obsessive neuroticisms and OCD). The writers had the perfect opportunity to make Ross and Rachel become that couple during season 8, but failed and gave us the worst idea of a relationship ever and a waste of a storyline.
I know, even when I was watching as a preteen, I thought that it was crazily weird that Ross would try to hit on his own BLOOD COUSIN, even if she WAS Denise Richards! 🤢🤦🏽♀️
You can acknowledge that your family members are beautiful because of course we would want to life our family members up. But there's a difference between calling your family beautiful, and calling them hot to the point that you try to kiss them, so gross.
Unpopular opinion #1: Joey and Rachel made a better couple than Ross and Rachel. The perfect moment that illustrates this is in the season 9 premiere when they tell Rachel that Joey didn't propose, and that it was Ross's ring.. and then Ross is all "Maybe we could think about dating" and Joey says that he was willing to marry her just because of the misunderstanding.. Unpopular opinion #2: there is nothing good about the brad Pitt thanksgiving cameo..
Honestly, my sister in law offered to be a surrogate for us since we kept losing our babies. He was not thrilled with the idea, but I was touched by the offer.
No, Chandler's father did have a sex change. However, it's not really transphobia. He doesn't hate the gender as a whole; he's resentful because of the specific things his father did. Besides, due to how society was back then, no one taught Chandler to be more open-minded.
The thing with richard never really bothered me cause my mom married my step dad who was 19 years older then her and they were happy, my younger brother married a women about 13 to 14 years older then him recently and he's happy and my first relationship was with an older man who was a family friend when I was 18 and I was a pretty happy boy, didn't last past 4 years but I wasn't miserable or found it wierd. It's wierd that other people stick their faces in my buisness and tell me who I should date and why they think they know better then me.
I'm sorry but I couldn't disagree more on Phoebe and Joey being a couple. The platonic relationship they end up having, it's waaaaay more effective than any of the actual romantic ones, even if they wouldn't end up together, I feel like having them as a relationship at some point would've weakend that.
I agree with Joey’s development, he used to be just.. simple - not dumb. That french lesson was just an insult to his character. I don’t know why they had to dumb them down
The criticism on Ross for dating Elizabeth is somewhat unfair. 1. She is his former student. They start dating after she completes his class. 2. His ex girlfriend dates Elizabeth's father and their age gap is bigger then Ross and Emily but somehow that isn't discussed and ridiculed. For me Rachel and Elizabeth's dad (Paul?) relationship are more questionable then Ross and Elizabeth considering all involved.
I have no idea why people hate Ross so much, I get he made mistakes but all of those mistakes has reasons and most of time he didn’t even mean to do those mistakes
Also the whole wedding with Emily thing... If he somehow mantioned Rachel out of nowhere on accident, I'd take it. But the dude was literally supposed to just repeat the sentence he'd just heard. Noone can be that stupid.
I liked the first couple seasons when they first aired, but I hated that Ross was so damn possessive of Rachel and stopped paying attention after that.
it’s said before that the writers had Chandler move to Tulsa so that Matthew Perry could spend more time in rehab. Yeah it was weird not seeing him on the show as much as normal, and they could’ve integrated it better into the storyline than having Chandler fall asleep in a meeting, but there was a reason behind it
That's objectively not true. It did have some great writing moments and it did bring chandler who in my opinion is one of the greatest character in sitcom's history ( especially early chandler) It did have awfully cringe moments though and probably the most obnoxious intro theme of all time
The worse thing about Friends was Joey's character. He never left a chance passing sexual comments on those three ladies who were supposed to be his friends. He always wanted to sleep with all of them. Maybe its my cultural difference speaking, but how a girl will feel comfortable around a friend like this?
Could be worse; could be Donna in That 70s Show with _two_ of her male friends not just ogling and hitting on her constantly, but even making moves to grope her and stalk her (seriously, Fez? you hide in her closet as a matter of _course?_ You deserved Caroline).
In the first episode of "Family Ties", Maloriy was almost as smart (maybe even on the same level) as Alex. Same for Kelly and Bud on 'Married With Children". Writers seem to think they have to have one extremely stupid character on a show.
Wrong! Mallory was not portrayed in the first episode to be as smart as Alex. He constantly makes jokes about her being dumb in that episode. Also Kelly was stupid from the start of Married with Children, just not as much. ...and Kelly becoming stupider was cuz of Christina Applegate, not the writers. Christ ina Applegate said she didn't fully find the character until she watched The Decline of Western Civilization: The Metal Years and saw a girl in it and she went "That's it! That's Kelly!"
I got behind most of these but the phoebe bit was just a fundamental misunderstanding of the character lol the point of her stories is that she is bizarre and does bizarre things. I literally said “that’s the joke” out loud at the video at one point. And Mike and Phoebe make so much sense, he grounds her in reality with his average Joe-ness. And it makes sense she didn’t end up with David, if you think about it, they only saw each other a few times over 8 years, they grew and changed apart from each other and weren’t the people they were when they first dated.
I agree with you 100%, Mike was a fantastic character arguably the best partner of any of the friends with the best on screen chemistry with all the originals. Seemed like such a forced complaint so he could moan about every Friend individually.
I am very glad that you pointed out Susan and her awful character. Also, I am sorry but the hate for Ross always got to me when Rachel was just as awful for always getting in the way of his happiness JUST to later dump him and make him even crazier right after. She just never really stuck out for me as a real character. She's pretty, selfish and rich.. Not much there. She even tried to get in between Joey and his possible relationship.
I don’t like Susan - she’s not a bad character, just written to be unlikable. However, having a gay character be a bad and annoying person isn’t problematic or in bad taste. Gay characters shouldn’t be treated differently in the writers’ room when it comes to likability or portrayal.
You misunderstand. The writers were playing into the man hating lesbian trope which has a gay character go out of their way to try and “turn” someone straight. Which was common for the time. It’s only an issue because the only representation was that. Not that I’m marching in the streets and demanding a late in life cancelation of the show
@@VI_V2 You gotta wonder if, considering Ross's neediness and expectations and toxic jealousy, and then considering Susan's misandry and casual homewrecking and generally caustic attitude, if Carol was actually bi and unfortunately led by the nose by toxic, intense people into losing sight of herself.

Weird how he didnt mention the lack of minorities in the the...the absolute lack of black characters in the first 7 season raised eyebrowns even in the '90s.
besides the accidental proposal and the ending of the joey/rachel relationship, it was joey at his best when it came to emotional moments and character interactions with rachel and ross in my opinion
People can say anything about Ross as a character , but David Schwimmer is the best actor for sure , he even made Ross "likable" sometimes and a lot of times

Signs of projection and an emotional abusive relationship. 🌠The more you know🌠
If she was straight would she be allowed to be portrayed negatively? Or does woman-hood check another protected "victim" box?
Anyone who willingly cheats with someone they know is married has no right to be disrespectful to the victim. It pissed me off when they were completely disregarding everything Ross wanted when it came to Ben as if Susan’s word was above his. Ross and Carol were his parents and should’ve been the ones making the decisions. I could understand if Ross was a dead beat, but he wasn’t. He was very much involved
@@whosaprettykitty5076 remember when ross walked carol down the aisle when she got married to susan 🤷🏻♀️ yeah they really did him dirty the whole show tbh
It's even worse when you remember how Ross cheating on Rachel was framed in a much more negative light.
@The crimson Diddler I don't that's how it works man
@The crimson Diddler
It's mixed in a peatry Dish, not her, dumbass.
Yes, true
Funny thing about Susan and Ross is that, in the episode where Susan and Carol get married, there's a scene towards the end in which Susan thanks Ross for encouraging Carol to marry her, and they end up dancing together, it was a nice moment and could've signified a turning point where both characters have some respect for one another, but all future appearances of Susan consist of "lol fuck you Ross" and said respect seemed to be only temporary. I'm not saying they had to be best friends but it would've been nice for their "relationship" to have some development.
That episode and the one where Ben was born are the only ones I like her in.
Since when was being a nice guy NOT sympathetic and endearing..? lol
Ross was an insecure guy initially because he was literally cheated on. He improved a LOT after that
@@MorrisseyMuse No they meant Nice Guy(tm) they’re the kind of guys who think they’re entitled to a girls affection because ‘they’re a nice guy’ (ie meet the minimum standard of not being a domestic abuser ) but are actually as shallow, selfish and unpleasant as he perceives the ‘jerks’ they moan about their obsession dating.
She really was manipulative, toxic and looking it through another lens. was Susan manipulated to leave her husband to be with her, while also gaslighted to believe and go along with everything Susan said.
remember that Susan's was Carol's first relationship with her own gender outside the remarriage as we know, which means in a power dynamic
Susan was holding all the cards
the fact that at the time same marriage was hardly ever depicted in media at all, so instead of having someone who came in, fell in love with Susan after she split up with Ross, and then Susan found out she was pregnant, and was presented as a decent person with a new dynamic and was friendly to ross, and learning how to co-parents. instead, we got Susan, who just hated Ross on sight. the whole thing really should have been done better
I agree, they kinda made same sex marriage and relationships look bad because of it. Everyone can have flaws sure and this could happen (rarely) but they chose to present a same sex relationship in a really negative way, demonising it instead of showing how "normal" they can be and are. It really sucked tbh :/
Furthermore people having flaws doesn't excuse toxic behaviour in any way. They could've presented her as having some flaws but still being a relatively good person.
I mean yeah the age gap with Richard was weird but it's also the whole reason it didn't work out: He had already lived a full life and had kids and everything, Monica hadn't experienced that and wasn't gonna force him to go through it again
Exactly
Also they’re both consenting adults 🤷♀️ it’s not like they pretend it’s not an issue, it’s an essential part of the entire run of their relationship
It's not so much the age gap but the knowing Monica since she was in utero and watching her grow up that's really weird.
Basically Carol had terrible taste in partners
@@katykendrick8151 Carol did cheat on Ross, so she’s not that innocent either.
I liked the moments when Ross stood up to Susan's disrespect.
Monica changed when she started dating Chandler. It's not his fault, but that's when it started
The term Flanderization is fucking stupid.l, cuz Ned Flanders NEVER Changed. He was always a Religious Nut. There are a billion better examples they could have named the term after.
Phoebe stupid!?!?!! What!?! She is maybe naive and live in her own world, but stupid!? Noooooo!
I'm surprised you didn't bring up Emily, Ross' second wife. You did show a pic of her but her whole relationship with Ross felt rushed just so we could get a trip to London out of it. The end of the relationship was also super unsatisfying and ultimately had no payoff.
She was f’n awful
Indeed, they turned her into a complete bitch out of nowhere just so they could writte her off.

I try to keep in mind that the show started almost 30 years ago and is, in many ways, a product of its time. I always thought Rachel had really weird and cheap romantic storylines after Ross. Which was lame because Ross had multiple girlfriends who were gorgeous and smart. They did Rachel dirty.
They did Ross dirty.
That's cuz they were strictly tools to keep a wedge between Ross and Rachel, but not get completely in the way of the two of them getting back together.
Rachel and Chandler would have been best, Monica and joey and ross and phoebe. all pairings that improve each other/challenge each other.
They knew that if they got her a good man, they would have a difficult time justifying why she should up end up with Ross
Ross is awful in a lof of things , he is an awful boyfriend and Rachel is an awful girlfriend and also she only likes awful men , she only dated awful men throughout the series , except Joey
Ross didn't needed a girlfriend , Ross didn't needed a relationship , Ross didn't needed Rachel ( definitely not ) , Ross only needed a therapy

That Rachel and Joey thing was stupid as fuck.
Show really jumped the shark when Joey and Chandler stopped living together. It lost some of its spark.
That sounds like something the CW would pull as they’re all about unnecessary empty drama, that’s only there to cause drama.

@@daisy-ee8ki as someone who is also a bi woman, thank you for your eloquent comments, you said it much better than I ever could
Your point about Susan being rude to Ross is incredibly valid.
Does that make you wonder if that would explain why Jack Gellar refers to Emma as his first grandchild and totally forgetting about Ben? I always thought that Jack & Judy Gellar resented Carol for cheating on Ross with Susan.
Ross kissed his sister and tried to made moves on his cousin.

If Ross and Richard werent played by the actors they were played by I would definitly hate them lmao
I know everyone loved David for Feebs. But honestly, I kept forgetting he existed till he showed up again
That shoutout from David Jaffe was awesome. The show did have its bad and woeful episodes but its still an incredible show. I still watch it today.
I can describe Joey's character as how I portray Patrick Star from SpongeBob: His character is so dumb that he's annoying.
They literally reffers to him as "retarded" in the last season.
Patrick is amazing. The inner machinations of his mind are an enigma...
Hey, at least Joey remained likable! Patrick just became insufferable after a while!
I love friends and I’m English. It’s my fav tv show of all time
Also as for Chandler, I think people who call him transphobic don't realise, he has just as bad a relationship with his mom, and it's shown that not only did his parents have a messy divorce he was caught in the middle of, but both were equally terrible in how they were flaunting their sexuality in front of Chandler growing up and making him massively uncomfortable.
There _is_ that. Paul Rudd's celebrity, where it is now, was _definitely_ a very long, very slow burn.
the rachel dating joey thing, the creators/writers said they did it “to prove that it was a bad idea”
Then why didn't they kill off the entire cast and replace them with Muppets cause that would also be a bad idea that they could prove is bad.
Black or Checkered haha ikr! i’m not defending it! it’s just what they said! 🤷. also i should’ve been clearer, they meant it to show that is is a bad idea to have friends date just because they’re friends, not that it was a bad idea to include it on the show. that part is a given lol
It was pretty effective in Season 8 because it gave Joey more depth. It should've ended there though
...what?
Exactly. It's staggering that people don't get even that basic stuff.

“Why don’t you gimme your number?”
Could you VEE any more Infuso!?
This comment should be pinned, tbhwy familia.
His dad was not a dragqueen. His dad was jessica rabbit.
...playing a drag Queen, yu dumb fuck.
Ross was the worst thing that happened to Rachel and Rachel was the worst thing that happened to Ross
The Joey and Rachel story was cringed to me
Joey and Rachel is one of the biggest atrocities to ever occur on television.
Ross and his cousin was super creepy. How can you look at your family member and think she's hot.
I know, even when I was watching as a preteen, I thought that it was crazily weird that Ross would try to hit on his own BLOOD COUSIN, even if she WAS Denise Richards! 🤢🤦🏽♀️
@@trinaq yeah and who look at a relative like that. That thought shouldn't cross your mind at all
Y'all haven't been on Pornhub recently, have you?
@@christophergarrett7082 Maybe you would think twice if your cousin looked like Denise Richards in her prime. 😄
You got all of that as a reason why Joey and Rachel are better?
But you do realize that most of the comedy in Friends comes from the fact that the characters are so deeply flawed, right?
No this was most 90s shows writere loved to flandarise
Honestly, I was shipping Joey and Phoebe since the first season, when Ursula appeared
Exactly
At what point was the sex change?
@@SpookySammy I don't remember if they ever clarified that.
The line "don't you have a little too much penis for that dress" suggests no sex change.
@@SpookySammy Hmmm... Well, we know she had surgery on the upper body.
Well phoebe and mike were the only couple I care about and also her with Joey would have been weird.
I remember thinking as soon as I saw it that Rachel+Joey was a disastrous idea.
I agree with Joey’s development, he used to be just.. simple - not dumb. That french lesson was just an insult to his character. I don’t know why they had to dumb them down
He is eating ice cream to impress the girl silly
He eats ice cream in another episode too, dumbass.
Alec Baldwin’s Friends run was great.
I think Joey is better for Rachel than Ross. I was kinda sad it didn't work. Ross was all about the drama. Joey's chill. He and Rachel worked.
They had 0 chemistry
I have no idea why people hate Ross so much, I get he made mistakes but all of those mistakes has reasons and most of time he didn’t even mean to do those mistakes
I personally always hated Ross and Rachel. I consider Rachel the most unlikable character on the show, that includes Susan too.
Absolutely
Also the whole wedding with Emily thing... If he somehow mantioned Rachel out of nowhere on accident, I'd take it. But the dude was literally supposed to just repeat the sentence he'd just heard. Noone can be that stupid.
I liked the first couple seasons when they first aired, but I hated that Ross was so damn possessive of Rachel and stopped paying attention after that.
I agree, Ross didn't need a girlfriend, he needed therapy, plenty of it to sort out his many issues!
Rachel was even more possessive of Ross! She broke up (or at least attempted to) all of his relationships and was constantly jealous!
it’s said before that the writers had Chandler move to Tulsa so that Matthew Perry could spend more time in rehab. Yeah it was weird not seeing him on the show as much as normal, and they could’ve integrated it better into the storyline than having Chandler fall asleep in a meeting, but there was a reason behind it
Joey's character getting dumber is under the request of the actor himself, Matt LeBlanc
Probably not to the same degree though.
I won’t lie, I LOVED Alex Baldwin’s episodes 😂
Ross saying Rachel's name at his marriage with Emily should have been there too.
To be fair, a top _fifty_ with Ross would still fail to be sufficient.
No it shouldn't.
The worst part of friends is just a little gap between the first and the last episode
That's objectively not true. It did have some great writing moments and it did bring chandler who in my opinion is one of the greatest character in sitcom's history ( especially early chandler)
It did have awfully cringe moments though and probably the most obnoxious intro theme of all time
Omg so clever! #not
The worse thing about Friends was Joey's character.
@@christopherb501 i have not watched Donna. But i understand what do you mean.

Many people lend their wombs to a family member in need sometimes for free sometimes for pay.
Excellent 28 minute rant.
I actually agreed & sympathized with a lot of it.

I’ll agree. The arc did more to endear people to Joey but did nothing for anyone else. I also think Joey was already shown to be a good guy though
