A show like this can't survived without it's lead. Look at The Office, the show went down hill after Steve Carell's departure, even tho the characters were cool, Michael Scott was the highlight and the same happened with Charlie

Unpopular opinion here but I loved The Office without Michael and sometimes I was straight glad he's gone. It gave more chances to build characters like Dwight whom I love and let my favourite character (Creed) BE THE FUCKING MANAGER BECAUSE OF SENIORITY 😂😂😂

Its not so much that having Ashton ruined it, but rather that not having Charlie did. Im sure of Ashton was introduced as a side character he would have been well recieved.

If you watch the first season and probably even the second one, he wasn't dumb, he was more of a smartass. The best way would have been to see a teenage Jake dealing with his problems under the influence of Charlie, but also the impact of Alan and Edith on him. I guess that required effort though, the longer the show went on the lazier it got. I still loved it until S6 though.
It was both. But at least Charlie was on drugs. Chuck's pettiness continued for years and despite Charlie leaving TAAHM, the show was still about him except that it was in a mean-spirited way. They recreated Charlie any way they could and half the jokes were against both Charlie Harper and Charlie Sheen. It was insane to watch.
I was introduced to this show through season 9 so I watched Walden episodes before the Charlie ones and I think that’s why I never hated the Walden character

I was so disappointed when Charlie wasn’t here anymore, I had missed the lorry/sheen fight, and I was so pissed when we didn’t see Charlie after all the finale teasing
The show was done by the time Charlie left in my opinion. Keeping it going was just Chuck Lorres's ego to suggest it could go on without Charlie Sheen. The show was done anyway I think. In any event it still would have been better with Charlie Sheen in it. I think the problem is that they wanted to marry off Charlie and that is what ruined the vibe of the show.
They turned Allen gay for no reason and what they did to Jake may have been just as bad. They still had 2/3 of the main characters and completely destroyed both of them!
To be fair I think it wouldn't have lasted much longer even if Charlie would have stayed and that's simply because no series can go on forever, afterall it would have became a played out joke anyway, usually shows that drag on for too long become less and less interesting and lose most of their audience simply cause people want something new plus the showrunners run out of ideas and that's when fan service and repetition ruin the whole feel of it, eg. Supernatural.
I actually liked season 9 and 12, when Walden first appeared on the show and they seemed to have planned what to do with him. Season 10 and 11 were like they didn't know what to do with him so they kept trying to put in new characters but sadly nothing worked out fine. However in season 12, they encountered the idea of having a kid for Walden, to me that's a pleasure to watch the progress but that didn't seem to be able to last for any longe
When charlie left, I saw just one episode with Ashton and the I stopped watching Two and Half Men out of bitterness. Years after I saw some reruns of Ashton Kutcher's Two and half Men, and I found myself enjoying them and laughing. I agree that it got stale by the end, but I appreciate some of those episodes and I found that John Cryer improved his performance with Ashton. I think it could've worked better if the writers played on the strong parts of the show and the characters
The show could have worked if Chuck hadn't been so petty. He turned the whole show into "I hate Charlie" the show. If Ashton had played someone related to them who decided to buy the house and allowed Alan to live there and simply say that Charlie stayed in France, the show would have been alright.
I agree wholeheartedly with this review. Walden is the male version of Rey from star wars. No problems, everyone likes him, and seems to just be perfect. A true Gary Stu.

I really dig your mini-series on this show. I used to fall asleep listening to my Dad watch it when I was a kid, and I've lived through a lot of scenarios in the show as well. It's still one of my favorites and I watch it often - it's honestly sad to see the downfall around season 8. I hope one day they do decide to make The Harpers lol.

I agree, Alan was likeable at the start of the show but in later seasons lost all of that, being a leech and only that. So Vee is not really right when saying he stayed the same.

I vaguely remember actually liking the Kutcher years, though they definitely didn't hold a candle to what came before. Speaking of which, I've recently rewatched the Sheen years on HBO Max, and yeah, that's a show that I want to see looked at through modern lenses, so enough with the Schmidt.
I wouldn't blame him but the show wasn't the same after Charlie. Why not just end the show and start a new one? They could even stealth pilot it and change the name or something.
The part that I couldn’t get behind was the show trying to convince the audience that this new guy was amazing, better than Charlie, the perfect man. Which he didn’t need to be to be a compelling character. And they didn’t need to tell us that, they just need to show us instead. It’s like they didn’t trust us to connect with him and because of this we didn’t. Kind of like Randy on That 70s show. Also interesting that the cast and crew kept saying that it was a “different show” but no one ever said anything necessarily positive about this change.
I like Vee’s videos on the show far better than the show. It’s one of those shows that I only watched because certain friends did. I just never found it that entertaining.

What if they would've made Walden, instead of what they did, made him a kid who grew up in foster homes, with a mysterious benefactor backing his schooling through "donations" and through the episodes he had subtle mannerisms like Charlie and Alan and when angry act like their mom, even had some "Jake" moments and can get along with everyone like he always belonged meaning visual resentment, but all in all having love for one another burying deep deep down, Alan teases him about being their brother another mother just to find by the end of the series to find he was him and Charlie's brother, one of her love children "abortions" with a famous person who could've been some famous actor, meaning she cheated on the dad or maybe they had a swinging phase in 70s and there maybe more for all she know, because back in the day and now momma got around. Surprised they didn't have that 70s show actors cameo as Walden's rivals or family, I would've played that up. I never understood why he would move into a house and take care of someone's else leech brother and son, without any issue, that's why they should've made him a distant cousin or brother, or hell one of the mom's ex husband's kids or something. I wish they would've gotten more creative with things it would've lasted longer, scary thing is if they would've did something different and cool like the original premises of the show it would still be on or they would've had two good seasons. Gotta blame Chuck Lorre for that I bet now he would've done it all differently, now if he could go back, maybe him and Charlie could've worked things out or just made a more compelling introduction and presentation, as well as real character development of Charlie's replacement character after Charlie's departure. But I digress

I get the show wasn’t the same when Charlie left, but I’ve always liked Walden, I was especially invested with his love life, plus he was a good guy and I guess that was refreshing, he had great chemistry with Jon and the goodness with Walden contracted great with Alan being a creep Idk I was never pressed about it, it is just a comedy sitcom after all
Maybe do a video on why Charlie Sheens era was good? Also after binge watching this show they reused so many actors and actresses and cast them as different characters later in the series. For example Charlie's girlfriend Chelsea was seen as early as season 1, and waldens ex wife also played Herbs sister earlier in the series.
This show is the living embodiment of my five years and out rule. I leave every long running show after five years regardless of storyline. That's when the slow decline starts like Big Bang Theory. Sometimes it's a precipitous decline like NYPD Blue.

A bold move to make such a drastic change. Surprised CBS didn't just end the show. They had eight seasons and enough episodes for syndication. But it shows the network wanted the show to continue some more. Surprised the series lasted four more years too, you'd think after that first season it would have tanked. The introduction of Walden gave the show something touching and refreshing. Just sucks how they ended it with Charlie being alive the whole time and kept in a basement well by Rose. That was such a lame plot twist. I wish they did continue the show some more so we got to see Louis grow and develop more since he only comes in in the final season. We should have seen him in Season 11 as opposed to Jenny who was shoe-horned into the show as this long lost child of Charlie's which did not sit well with me.
As one of a select few people that still clings to cable, even with paying for multiple streaming services 😂 I catch 2 and Half Men on IFC and TV Land quite often, and regardless of it's the Charlie era or Walden era, i enjoy the show. Yes the last season was weak and finale was an overall letdown, but both still make me laugh. Maybe i just miss low brow comedy like this..

They were saying not showing with the character of Walden and thats a recipe for disaster in any show. The show was built on a house of cards, namely Sheens prime charisma. The show achieved way more than it probably should have and should be commended for that.

I have to agree that Charlie sheen was the glue to the show ,and nobody could replace ,but when ashton Kutcher signed on to do the show I was more than happy ,because his success on that 70's show ,for me ashton Kutcher is more like the younger brother of Charlie and Alan than he is as their friend why didn't they cast him as the younger brother better yet a side character
No one will see this but heres how I wouldve done it if keeping charlie dead was forced. You can keep walden and keep the house but have the season be about Alan letting go of the house, which could be done in with the fact that Walden felt so indebted to Alan saving his life he truly helps get him back on his feet. Helps Alan design a new website for his business, helps drum up some advertising, and gets him a better building with more traffic. I know Alan wouldnt want to take it, but Walden would insist and say when im done youll be able to pay me pack within a few years. Along with this its just a season arc of Jake in the military and getting his act together and realizing how much of a Tool he is. Then at the end of the season its maybe a year or two timeskip and Alan can finally afford a place of his own, he thanks Walden for all he has done for him and Walden says he can come by any time. Then he walks into his and Charlie's room one more time and says thanks for all you did for me. Then shows his new apartment and then maybe end it on one final punchline, I dont know what of but something.
I only started watching 2 and a half men this year and decided to only watch from when ashton kutcher joined. I really enjoyed it but the last season felt like everything just fell apart.

I love Ashton’s performance. He’s great. I just find the brother dynamic of Charlie and Alan way more entertaining than two friends living together. Course at first it was 2 strangers living together. I would’ve loved watching 12 seasons of Charlie and Alan bouncing off each other. It’s why I watch sheen’s episodes over and over regardless of episode. No hate on Ashton he’s great. Just enjoy sheen’s character more than Ashton’s.

They turned Allen gay for no reason and what they did to Jake may have been just as bad. They still had 2/3 of the main characters and completely destroyed both of them!
To be fair I think it wouldn't have lasted much longer even if Charlie would have stayed and that's simply because no series can go on forever, afterall it would have became a played out joke anyway, usually shows that drag on for too long become less and less interesting and lose most of their audience simply cause people want something new plus the showrunners run out of ideas and that's when fan service and repetition ruin the whole feel of it, eg. Supernatural.

I actually liked season 9 and 12, when Walden first appeared on the show and they seemed to have planned what to do with him. Season 10 and 11 were like they didn't know what to do with him so they kept trying to put in new characters but sadly nothing worked out fine. However in season 12, they encountered the idea of having a kid for Walden, to me that's a pleasure to watch the progress but that didn't seem to be able to last for any longe
Yes season 9 was nice and have fun episodes. I realy didnt wach 10 and 11 because i see new Characters. It was tomuch fot the show.
When charlie left, I saw just one episode with Ashton and the I stopped watching Two and Half Men out of bitterness. Years after I saw some reruns of Ashton Kutcher's Two and half Men, and I found myself enjoying them and laughing. I agree that it got stale by the end, but I appreciate some of those episodes and I found that John Cryer improved his performance with Ashton. I think it could've worked better if the writers played on the strong parts of the show and the characters
The show could have worked if Chuck hadn't been so petty. He turned the whole show into "I hate Charlie" the show.
If Ashton had played someone related to them who decided to buy the house and allowed Alan to live there and simply say that Charlie stayed in France, the show would have been alright.
Wonder how the show would have done had the roles reversed and Alan left and Charlie was still around.

I agree wholeheartedly with this review. Walden is the male version of Rey from star wars. No problems, everyone likes him, and seems to just be perfect. A true Gary Stu.
Charlie ruined it. The show was perfect and he went through what he went through. Demanding more and more money. Sucks show was amazing

Everyone knows the show is Charlie Sheen's hysterically loveable, yet flawed, character and then a bunch of supporting characters. He dared them to try it without him... they did, and it was worse than the misery passengers experienced on the TWA Flight 800 crash.

I actually liked the character of Walden. And I agree with your assessment. Walden didn't kill the show, it prolonged it's life.
I really dig your mini-series on this show. I used to fall asleep listening to my Dad watch it when I was a kid, and I've lived through a lot of scenarios in the show as well. It's still one of my favorites and I watch it often - it's honestly sad to see the downfall around season 8. I hope one day they do decide to make The Harpers lol.
ASHTON KUTCHER is so freaking likeable, he cannot ruin any show, the show was just mediocre, and Alan's character was destroyed with each season.
ashton was never likeable or charismatic in anything he has ever worked, this walden characters was awful and felt out of place with a show that died without his main star.
I agree, Alan was likeable at the start of the show but in later seasons lost all of that, being a leech and only that. So Vee is not really right when saying he stayed the same.

I kept waiting for Ashton to look at the TV a few seasons in and suddenly people run into the room I'm in and they yell YOU JUST GOT PUNKED!
The part that I couldn’t get behind was the show trying to convince the audience that this new guy was amazing, better than Charlie, the perfect man. Which he didn’t need to be to be a compelling character. And they didn’t need to tell us that, they just need to show us instead. It’s like they didn’t trust us to connect with him and because of this we didn’t. Kind of like Randy on That 70s show.
Also interesting that the cast and crew kept saying that it was a “different show” but no one ever said anything necessarily positive about this change.
He killed it the moment his character gave Charlie's piano away for charity.
Charlie slept his way to that piano and earned it!

I can’t say I agree, but I grew up with the show so I have a huge emotional attachment to it (I was born in 2003 and my dad has watched it since season 1). I do like the later seasons though, don’t get me wrong! There’s just something about Charlie I really like, that womanizing asshole

What if they would've made Walden, instead of what they did, made him a kid who grew up in foster homes, with a mysterious benefactor backing his schooling through "donations" and through the episodes he had subtle mannerisms like Charlie and Alan and when angry act like their mom, even had some "Jake" moments and can get along with everyone like he always belonged meaning visual resentment, but all in all having love for one another burying deep deep down, Alan teases him about being their brother another mother just to find by the end of the series to find he was him and Charlie's brother, one of her love children "abortions" with a famous person who could've been some famous actor, meaning she cheated on the dad or maybe they had a swinging phase in 70s and there maybe more for all she know, because back in the day and now momma got around. Surprised they didn't have that 70s show actors cameo as Walden's rivals or family, I would've played that up. I never understood why he would move into a house and take care of someone's else leech brother and son, without any issue, that's why they should've made him a distant cousin or brother, or hell one of the mom's ex husband's kids or something. I wish they would've gotten more creative with things it would've lasted longer, scary thing is if they would've did something different and cool like the original premises of the show it would still be on or they would've had two good seasons. Gotta blame Chuck Lorre for that I bet now he would've done it all differently, now if he could go back, maybe him and Charlie could've worked things out or just made a more compelling introduction and presentation, as well as real character development of Charlie's replacement character after Charlie's departure. But I digress

The last four seasons of TAAHM had some funny episodes, but it was a true classic when Charlie was on the show.

I get the show wasn’t the same when Charlie left, but I’ve always liked Walden, I was especially invested with his love life, plus he was a good guy and I guess that was refreshing, he had great chemistry with Jon and the goodness with Walden contracted great with Alan being a creep

Maybe do a video on why Charlie Sheens era was good? Also after binge watching this show they reused so many actors and actresses and cast them as different characters later in the series. For example Charlie's girlfriend Chelsea was seen as early as season 1, and waldens ex wife also played Herbs sister earlier in the series.

This show is the living embodiment of my five years and out rule. I leave every long running show after five years regardless of storyline. That's when the slow decline starts like Big Bang Theory. Sometimes it's a precipitous decline like NYPD Blue.
Supernatural stayed good past season 5... But that is just the exception that proves the rule.

A bold move to make such a drastic change. Surprised CBS didn't just end the show. They had eight seasons and enough episodes for syndication. But it shows the network wanted the show to continue some more. Surprised the series lasted four more years too, you'd think after that first season it would have tanked. The introduction of Walden gave the show something touching and refreshing. Just sucks how they ended it with Charlie being alive the whole time and kept in a basement well by Rose. That was such a lame plot twist. I wish they did continue the show some more so we got to see Louis grow and develop more since he only comes in in the final season. We should have seen him in Season 11 as opposed to Jenny who was shoe-horned into the show as this long lost child of Charlie's which did not sit well with me.

I catch 2 and Half Men on IFC and TV Land quite often, and regardless of it's the Charlie era or Walden era, i enjoy the show. Yes the last season was weak and finale was an overall letdown, but both still make me laugh. Maybe i just miss low brow comedy like this..

They were saying not showing with the character of Walden and thats a recipe for disaster in any show. The show was built on a house of cards, namely Sheens prime charisma. The show achieved way more than it probably should have and should be commended for that.

I have to agree that Charlie sheen was the glue to the show ,and nobody could replace ,but when ashton Kutcher signed on to do the show I was more than happy ,because his success on that 70's show ,for me ashton Kutcher is more like the younger brother of Charlie and Alan than he is as their friend why didn't they cast him as the younger brother better yet a side character
No one will see this but heres how I wouldve done it if keeping charlie dead was forced. You can keep walden and keep the house but have the season be about Alan letting go of the house, which could be done in with the fact that Walden felt so indebted to Alan saving his life he truly helps get him back on his feet. Helps Alan design a new website for his business, helps drum up some advertising, and gets him a better building with more traffic. I know Alan wouldnt want to take it, but Walden would insist and say when im done youll be able to pay me pack within a few years. Along with this its just a season arc of Jake in the military and getting his act together and realizing how much of a Tool he is. Then at the end of the season its maybe a year or two timeskip and Alan can finally afford a place of his own, he thanks Walden for all he has done for him and Walden says he can come by any time. Then he walks into his and Charlie's room one more time and says thanks for all you did for me. Then shows his new apartment and then maybe end it on one final punchline, I dont know what of but something.
I only started watching 2 and a half men this year and decided to only watch from when ashton kutcher joined. I really enjoyed it but the last season felt like everything just fell apart.

I think Ashton did a good job, and he is not to blame for it's downfall, but it just wasn't the same without Charlie Sheen.
I personally think they should have just ended the show when Sheen left and not dragged it out.

I love Ashton’s performance. He’s great. I just find the brother dynamic of Charlie and Alan way more entertaining than two friends living together. Course at first it was 2 strangers living together. I would’ve loved watching 12 seasons of Charlie and Alan bouncing off each other. It’s why I watch sheen’s episodes over and over regardless of episode. No hate on Ashton he’s great. Just enjoy sheen’s character more than Ashton’s.
