I think putting a spare was perfect having the fixaflat is dumb but your way is the better way
Congratulations Steve, you won the Topdon JS2000 free give away. DM me you address on Instagram and I will get this mailed out to you with some bonus JDM RHD artwork prints. Thanks for watching and for the channel support. instagram.com/jdmrighthanddrive/
Been loving the content so far, super appreciative to have professional quality videos from an average vb wrx owner.
Glad you enjoy the content. I spend quite a bit of time editing the video trying to create high quality content like the big TH-camrs. Thanks for watching , lots more to come.
A portable jump starter and spare tire is definitely a must!
For sure. I still carry both in my car just in case. Luckily I have not had to use them yet. Thanks for watching.
To address the concerns in several of the comment from you guys about the spare tire dimensions. I did the math and I should have addressed this in the video. I wanted to thank everyone who brought up their concerns about tire ratio being off and potentially causing damage to the AWD system, so we can address this together. Here is the the stats below.
This spare tire I purchased is a 155/70 R17. If you have a WRX base with a 235/45 R17 and compare the the diameter inches vs the spare its within 0.8% of stock tire size www.tacomaworld.com/tirecalc?tires=155-70r17-235-45r17
If you have the 18" premium wheels which run the same size tires as my STI wheels 245/40 R18 and compare the diameter inches vs the spare its 0.7% www.tacomaworld.com/tirecalc?tires=155-70r17-245-40r18
If you guys watch this Canada spec TH-cam video th-cam.com/video/4ff_iJkj-Cc/w-d-xo.html
Canadian WRX spare tire is a 205/50 R17 and compare vs both 17 and 18 inch stock tires sized its off by 1% on base 17 and 2.6% on premium 18" in diameter.
18" difference www.tacomaworld.com/tirecalc?tires=205-50r17-245-40r18
17" difference www.tacomaworld.com/tirecalc?tires=205-50r17-235-45r17
I am not an expert, so I would talk with a professional tire shop. I am comfortable temporarily running my spare at low speeds and driving to a service center if I got a flat.
Thanks for everyone's comments and support on my channel.
The Topdon JS2000 winner will be officially announced on my channel on May 3rd, 2022.

Good luck everyone. 👍
Just ordered me an alloy spare, found one on eBay for 105 shipped. Thanks for the tip brother 👍
That is a great price. Glad the video helped you out.
Love seeing what you've done to the VB! Now I need to check the spare that I got clears the brakes! Thanks for the information.
What spare tire did you end up going for?
Thank you! Super helpful video about the spare... front yard looks nice and so does the WRB WRX in the driveway :).
I didn't know if anyone would apricate the the yard work. I spent all my time last weekend working in the yard with my wife vs making car content for the channel. Family always comes 1st and a happy wife equals a happy life. Thanks for watching.
I have a 2023 WRX. Thanks for the video! Just subscribed.
Thanks for the sub! Congrats on your new VB, your going to love the car. I sure love mine 30k mines on it now and still having a blast everyday with my VB. 👍
That jump starter is pretty nice, did wish they put a spare - for peace of mind.
Content is always top notch! Videos have been my guide on how I want to build my VB.
Thanks I apricate that, glad to hear you like the content quality. Lots more mods to come, FMIC and J-pipe next with Drunkman E-30 tune. Thanks for watching.
Thanks for running thru this! Should have come this way
You bet man, glad to help out and thanks for watching.
Enjoying your content. Had a 2015 VA for a couple years then got rid of it in 2017. Got a different car every year 2017-2020 and am strongly considering getting the VB when the lease on my Giulia ends later this year. Will be watching for your track content very closely because that’s something I want to do with the next car.
I know that feeling if missing my Subaru. My last Subaru was my 06 STI that I sold in 2007 when my wife and I had our second kid, my daughter Madison. I bought a normal car and waited for years to get back into cars after raising my kids and taking care of my family. I like the Alfa Romero Giulia is a sweet looking car. The VB WRX is such a good platform. I have had mine for a year now and I am still in love with it and having a blast working on it. Glad to hear your enjoying the content and thanks for watching.
your videos are my go-to when it comes to making modifications on my vb! thanks for all your work
Hell yeah man, glad to hear the videos help you out. Lots more content to come. Thanks for watching.
Thanks for finding and sharing a good option to use as a spare. I’ll be throwing one of those in my trunk asap.
As far as wheel options, I really like the gold STi wheels on the car. Gold against WR blue is a pretty timeless look for a Subie.
Glad you hear you found the spare tire video helpful. Such a silly thing to have to figure out with a brand new car. I am right there with you. I love the BBS golds and am using those as my daily wheels, which match perfect with my STI brakes. th-cam.com/video/w1A1c2GGDnM/w-d-xo.html CE28 Volks will be my track wheel tire setup.
Can’t believe for the price of the car it didn’t come with a spare tire. Keep the content coming 💯
Wow, I appreciate the info on the spare tire. I just bought a VB WRX and will be traveling from El Paso to Central Texas every month. I’m overseas so have yet to drive the car. I will be buying a spare tire after this video. Thanks for the information.
You bet, glad this video helped you out. Have a safe flight back home and enjoy your El Paso trip. Thanks for watching!
Yea I think it crazy that Subaru did not put a spare in the WRX.
Great content JDM! We’re brothers in the 22 WRX community 🎉I follow your input and you followed mine with the f1 brake light!! Cheers.
Thanks, glad you enjoy the VB content. Yeah, the F1 light give that rear bumper a little more flair and helps to break up all that black plastic. 👍
@@JDMRightHandDrive it definitely helps for sure. Another one I have found that really adds flare to the stock rear are the oem exhaust finishers. I just got mine and wow they help bring some energy to the black rear bumper. Not saying you have to get them but check them out. I think you might grab em. After your oem duckbill spoiler install I got it myself . Quick question: I noticed you went back to the stock low pro spoiler. How come? Just curious. Also I agree with your new wheels. They look amazing compared to the gold. Don’t know why the stock sti gold doesn’t “fit” this gen but your on point. Cheers 🥂
Definitely going to be getting a spare for my wrx, still crazy Subaru didnt include one with the 22. Great video!
Yeah its just something most people would think would be included with a new car purchase. Glad I didn't get a flat tire driving to California. Thanks for watching.
my wrx is come with a spare tire 205/50 R17 because it's for Canada market
i take it out from the trunk and i think now the car is lighter when driving than before 🙂
Love the videos! Keep up the great work
Thanks I appreciate you!
Love the video!
Subaru should do a recall and give us all spare tires.
Haha, I completely agree! 👍
I think its a great idea, and I may well.copy so thanks for the tip.
I’ve been loving the content as well, Thanks man and keep up the good work! I’m also a fellow VB WRX owner as well ~22 WRX Limited 6MT
Glad to hear you enjoy the VB WRX content. Congrats on your 22 VB WRX limited. Thanks for the support.👍
Great vid and enjoyed the yard update. Would like to see what the Canada setup looks like also.
Glad to hear you enjoyed the yard update and found the spare tire setup helpful. I would like to see that Canadian set up and maybe try and buy a factory foam top that fits better than the one I hacked up.
Nice I was looking for something like this
Had same concern and went out and got me a spare as well
What spare tire did you end up going for? Thanks for watching.
Keep up the good work. Great videos bro
Thanks man, much appreciated !
Great video. I’m going to order a spare as well. I’m under the impression that the WRX in Canada comes with a spare. It’s too bad they didn’t include one with the US cars. Keep up the good work, especially from a fellow Washingtonian.
Awesome another Washington driver. Subaru is one of the best cars to drive in Pacific Northwest weather in my opinion. I did contact Subaru of Puyallup to see if Subaru had any model# listed for VB WRX spare tire, which they did not find anything in the computer. I would be curious if the Canada WRX does indeed come with the spare, I would like to order the foam overcover and replace the one that I hacked up so bad to make it fit my spare tire set up. Thanks for the info and I appreciate the channel support.👍
Appreciate the amount of VB content, me and my wife just got one, same WRB base model
And yes the stock speakers are ass 😫
Yeah, those stock speakers were a joke for sure. Speaker replacement is a must, I am happy I upgraded my speakers. Congrats on your new VB WRX and thanks for watching🙏
Thanks for the content!
You bet, thanks for watching.
I like the CE28 wheels. Just because the Sti wheels need to be on my car!!😁👍🏻. The spare is a great idea. I had a 2017 BMW M2 with no spare. Always made me a little nervous.
LOL, you like those GR BBS STI wheels. You should be able to find a set if you search. I found mine on FB market place after a few months of looking. Thanks for watching.
I traded in my si for the wrx and left my tacklife battery jumper in the glove box 😂out of sight out of mind great videos I am enjoying modding my 22 wrx
How you liking the WRX so far coming from your Civic SI. To bad you forgot the jumper in the glove box, your name will be in the give away. Good luck. Glad to hear you enjoy the VB content. Thanks for your support.👍
Certainly happy to be back in awd with more power living in a northern climate, the new civic si was good but I had the sticky steering issue happen and it seemed like that 1.5t and clutch were pretty much maxed out from factory, happy to be back subi gang
Way cheaper option than getting all the parts for the Canadian spare tire. Great find man
Thanks man, glad you found it helpful.👍
Thank you for the video.
You're welcome! A spare tire is something we all need.
Would you do the donut or full spare preferred? Do you think it matters if the spare goes on the front ot back since lots say you cant do a spare cause of the tread depth on the tires will be different?
As a fellow vb owner, i would love the jump starter! Love the videos
Good luck on the give away. Thanks for watching.
Nice!! I have the same concern
Thanks for watching.
Thanks for the info and content !!!
You bet, thanks for the channel support!🔥
Would love to see an update on the spoiler . Haven't seen it installed!
Awesome channel been watching a long time
Thanks Steve, I appreciate you and your long time support!
Hello friend. I’m looking for my WRX 2023. But can I use the one from another model here? I didn’t understand that part.
Yes it’s crazy , I knew this prior to getting my 2023 , I ask dealer to price or a spare “ donut “ and a full size . Almost fell off chair at cost they quoted . I’ll do homework to get a spare . Not completely comfortable with out a spare if late night driving in the Mts.
Yeah pretty crazy the spare tire quoted from the TH-cam video from Canada was over $1100 USD. That is a complete rip off. I personally dont have the most faith in a fix a flat kit as well for those long late night road trips. Congrats on your new VB and thanks for watching.🙏
I've got a 14 STI spare. But I'm running 255 35 18. So I can't run the spare unless I'm in stock set up. Gotta figure out a way to get a spare tire to match that diameter.
Haha I didn’t realize I didn’t have a spare!
Better go get yourself one John! Thanks for watching my vids man.👍
My 2022 WRX has a spare tire. Strange that they choose the Canadian models to come with them and not also the US
What size is your tire?
I really don't like what most new car manufacturers do with the spare tires. You either get a space saver or in your case a quick fix inflation kit. I have noticed some VB WRX owners get a full sized 17 inch stock rim and tire for a spare. They do a cut out of the foam to fit inside the rim. Wouldn't a +38 offset rim fit better for your WRX so it doesn't poke out?
Good vid bud
👍Thanks, I appreciate the channel support.
Keep up the great content
Thanks man, I appreciate you!
Smart move with the spare might need to do it to lol
Thanks, its nice to have the peace of mind if anything was to happen.
Funny enough, I have done pretty much the same thing with my subie, I went from WA to Oklahoma, so far no issues with the tires leading to needing a spare, but my charging ports and outlets don’t seem to be working for anything that draws any amount of power like a phone charger. Any ideas of what that may be? I think it’s a fuse but I’m not sure, Lawton doesn’t have a Subaru dealership but I got the total bumper to bumper so when J get back I’ll have to get that taken care of.
Hi question what lug nut did u used on the legacy spare tires?
I used the OEM lug nuts, they fit just like stock wheels.
Pretty cheap that Subaru didn’t give us a spare for the car, I’m going to have to get a spare sometime soon. I like the ce28’s better.
What's the ratio between the STI wheels that you're running and that spare are you sure it's not quite a bit smaller in diameter? It could be really bad for the all-wheel drive system, secondly coilovers soon??
Yeah going to go for HKS or Ohlins DFV when they come out.

I am not an expert, so I would talk with a professional tire shop. I am comfortable temporarily running my spare at low speeds and driving to a service center if I got a flat.
Is your spare tire like an inch taller than your other 3 wheels?
I just bought a 155/80/17 spare tire from EBay 2017 Legacy
2023 Subaru WRX
I wonder if I bought the wrong size, because when I put the spare next to the regular tire, it’s seem taller 🛞 🤷🏻♂️
I haven’t swapped it out to test it like you did.
I ran all the tire dimensions and I left all the size ratio vs oem on the description of the video. The Legacy spare tire I got is almost the same size as my stock 17" wheels. Good question and thanks for watching.
Nice
Thank you for the support.👍
Im am still in shock thst my 2022 WRX does not come with a spare. Had I known, I would have asked for another discount off OTD price. 😂
Now that you have the 19 sti brakes, does that spare still fit?
I will do a test fit update next time I get my car in the garage.
Alot of new cars don’t come with a spare. Don’t know why🤷♂️
That’s so weird that it doesn’t supply the spare. I got a brand new 22 wrx in Canada, and it does come with a spare
That is very interesting to hear that the Canada version gets a spare. Maybe they feel that you guys need one with more extreme weather conditions up north. I would be curious to see the foam cover and how it holds all the equipment vs the one I hacked up for my set up. Can you do be a favor and DM me a picture on Instagram if you have time. Thank you!👍
@@JDMRightHandDrive Yea no problem!
I can’t believe i didn’t know i didn’t have a spare 😭😭
Hey, something very concerning here when it comes to swapping just one tire out on a symmetrical AWD car like the WRX.
First, this spare wheel does not appear to be the same dimensions as the OEM rims which most people have. Your aftermarket ones could be (18x8.5 55 on OEM).
Secondly, the overall tire diameter not be the same right? Different wheel size = estimated different tire size?
Lastly the tread wear needs to be within roughly 3/32 if I am not mistaken, otherwise the wheels will not rotate at the same rate.
All of this could be a disaster for the rear differential if these conditions are present. Please elaborate or call me out if I am wrong.
Edit: Grammar/wording
Can’t edit I think since pinned (couple grammar mistakes) but mainly wanted to that the spare does NOT appear to be the same diameter/size.
Factory Canadian steel spare tire is still a 17” wheel with premium models that come with 18” wheels. It’s fine.
@@VisualOverland really? That is interesting. Wonder if tire with wheel is same dimension/offset as the OEM rim?
Ce28 looks way better
I agree with you , I think the CE28's look way more aggressive.
Someone is posing you just fyi
That was me Steve, check my latest video. You were announced as the winner and I messaged you back on Instagram too! Congrats man.
Remember that a Subaru spare tire should not be used on the front of the car!
