Scotch pies (given the name) are probably an exclusive to Scottish Greggs item. And the best ways to eat them in my opinion are to take off the top and douse it in brown sauce or ketchup, or put the whole thing in a buttered roll and just devour it that way. Healthy? No. Delicious? Yeah.
That Scotch pie texture is correct, I used to make them from scratch in my farmshop from old Scottish recipes (one of my customers was an old retired butcher from Scotland). I wasn't a fan of them either to be honest, but are more edible covered in HP sauce
I used to work at Greggs in Maidstone infact as a teenager.. and the frozen Iceland range, are quite literally Greggs genuine food. We would get deliveries everyday with shallow blue palettes FULL of just all frozen pastries and we cook them up in small batches throughout the day as they're sold/needed! So what they give to Icelane to sell, are quite literally the same products. There is room for the illusion of tasting different, but if anything, this is because of the non-industrial oven you'd be using at home! And yes, vegan products are partnered with Quorn! lmao I think they've probably got Scotch Pies in stores up north because it's common
First thing - this is not blind scoring. Second thing - don’t decide on ranking until you have all the data from all the tasting. I liked your video though - entertaining. Thank you 😊
Think i would have preferred a bind ranking of where you thought they would place prior to tasting and compared it to where they actually placed non blinded.
Can I just enquire as to whether you used the air fryer or the oven? I’ve been wondering this throughout the entire video. Must make this clear at the start 😜
The Greggs scotch pies are the only mass produced ones that still use mutton in their meat blend, I think the mutton adds something that you don’t get with just beef. It’s quite an old fashioned thing, though. The best mass produced pies up here are the Bell’s chicken curry pies!
Interesting! I have seen the scotch pies when I am up in Glasgow Greggs but not down where I live in Cumbria either. My fave is the veg bake so I was disappointed when you didn't rate it. But that's Greggs range for ya. Something for everyone and why we all go there 😊
I really like the Icelands Greggs sausage, bean and cheese bake. But I prefer the corned beef bake, you missed out there Sam. Never tried their sausage rolls but I grew up with a mom that bake everything herself, they were awesome out the fridge with Branston pickle.
We do love a scotch pie up here, though Greggs discontinued them in 2015. They weren't the best, the way to go is to get them from a local butcher or bakery. Even the Bells Scotch Pies from the chilled section of supermarkets were better.
@@SamWilder. To see the true majesty of a Scotch Pie there are several Scottish butchers who sell their own recipe ones online. Lot's of ways to eat them, Pry the top off, a good splash of brown sauce and then replace the lid. Smother in beans and brown sauce, or beans and lots of mature Scottish cheddar cheese. If it's a quality pie then served simply with chips, beans and gravy and salt and pepper too. The Greggs ones are OK, I'd give them a 6 out of 10. Iceland also sell ones from Bells who are a big manufacturer of pies etc. in Scotland. Farmfoods also sell Scotch pies too and I prefer them to the Greggs ones Iceland sell.
Yikes to the scotch pie. The meat looked grey. And don’t you just love cheddar cheese? I grated some into my mashed potatoes for lunch today and omg. The flavour was outstanding. Cheddar makes everything bedder. 😂 my fave.
Comes in frozen to the shops also. And the sausage rolls are raw and kept in bottom of fridge to stop the uncooked meat dripping on the rest of them. The sausage rolls Normally arrive in light blue trays and the rest dark blue tray and cakes come in white trays with bread.
@@SamWilder. Hey its your list, should have! Just because something is popular doesn't mean its the best, personal preference should always be key to lists like this. Thanks for the entertaining videos as always though.
Well done sam on offending the vast majority of my country of Scotland when reviewing the scotch pie. Having never had one prior ill let u off lol but yeah that's how they are supposed to look
Your pastry has a soggy bottom 😢 on all items.. ewww!! Would have been nice to have a side by side store v home to see real difference.. thanks for sharing tho😊
I was only recently informed at the weekend there that Greggs sell Pizza slices too. I was taken aback by this info but have yet to try one. They are “shit hot” apparently 😂
@@Wooioi hardly...everyone knows they literally taste the same...was waiting for another load of cooking ideas from his budget deals tbh I think I'm just a little disappointed love what he does but just not the ranking stuff
Perhaps you could compare the Greggs Iceland range to the ALDI/LIDL knockoffs?
@@aledjango yeah that be interesting 👍
And the Heroin Cooplands Bakery range
Aldi ones the sausage is cheap tasting they used to be better
100% would love to see this!

Do you deep fry it?
@@AmyDaisy69 You can, but I wouldn't recommend it. :D
I take the lid off and top it with baked beans. Pie, beans and chips is a favourite quick dinner of mine.

Greggs sell additional regional and national items - Scotch pie/macaroni pie in Scotland, stotties in the North East of England.
Macaroni pie sounds bliss.

Scotch pies are a Scottish classic- best eaten topped with baked beans

7:08 Sam mate you’re so funny you catch me off guard all the time with your quirky little ways. Love your vids keep smashing it ❤
Couldn’t stop watching your doggo when you were at the table 🐶
I would LOVE to see some longer format videos from you. I love your videos, but (like a Greggs sausage roll) I'm always left wanting more.

Im from scotland and greggs here definitely sell scotch pies here love your channel sam❤
They weren’t on my app!
@@SamWilder. It may just be in Scotland I can get it on just eat and in-store I don't have the Gregg's app to check tho x
I love how your dog is taking a close interest 🤣👍.
Cheese and onion pasties will always be my favourite from Greggs followed by sausage rolls, yum!
Think i would have preferred a bind ranking of where you thought they would place prior to tasting and compared it to where they actually placed non blinded.
Store Vs Frozen would be interesting too! I wonder if they are actually the same?
So you gave steak bake number 1 even though you preferred the number 2 one? Surely they should be switched then.
Corned beef bake is my favourite 😊
Yes they are available in scotland ,i have one when i visit my son in kilarnock 😅😊😊
Kilmarnock pal
@UK300Prodrive oops yes, eyes not too good. Great video
Greggs , just different kind of gloop in pastries
just got back from holiday first thing i did was check the channel
Vegetable bake is the best!
Scotch pies with beans or peas on top 👍👍no idea Greg’s sold them
Can I just enquire as to whether you used the air fryer or the oven? I’ve been wondering this throughout the entire video.

Corned beef pasty is exclusive to the South of England. (It is available in Andover but not in Basingstoke.)
If you consider Birmingham South of England.
That might explain it!!
Sausage bean & cheese melt wins for me too
2:30 That's me told, well played.😂

Bean and potato pie my favourite, just a scotch pie topped with mashed potato and beans

Fantastic Thumbnail Sam,
Thanks Sam I'm literally out army an living off the food you post 😂

Veggie bakes the veg is always way to crunchy no matter how long it's in the oven for
It's Sam Wilder it must be Tuesday ❣️
Just a minute here while I feed the algorithm.
Plot twist at the end! 😁
Nice work, i tried the scotch pie and it was nothing like the dresh ones in greggs scotland cheers😊

You can get the scotch pies in London, I've got a couple of packs in the freezer.
Did you cook these in an oven or AF please Sam?
You should go to Lidl, think you should do one for how many meals can I get for a £1.50 box (vegetables/fruit only)
How can you rank any of them against the others BEFORE having tasted the others?
I’m confused.
It’s a blind ranking! Got the idea from many a ytuber :)
Yeah, not not your finest. The blind ranking kind of contradicted itself.@SamWilder.
Scottish greggs no longer do a scotch pie either so it's the only way to get them now in the frozen section. Also it's needs beans on top!
We don’t have Greggs in the US. People seem to like it. Now I want a hand pie.
You not missing anything tasty.
in Scotland Greggs do the Scotch Pie
Greggs employee, yes it is Quorn in store
Scotch pies are amazing, try them from Morrisons hot counter. Yummy
What about ranking cheapest items at near by fast food/takeawaya

I dont think i have every eaten anything from Greggs. not deliberate but there always seems to be a better option. cant see that changing honestly.
I'm sure I had a scotch pie in a Newcastle branch years ago
So if you preferred the cheese and beans, why didn't you just swap out some of the positions to make it numero uno?

They are the same that are in Greggs stores
Scotch Pies I meant
