  • Can you live on $10 a week??? short answer is YES!
Yes, the food choices are going to be limited, but with some creative thinking you can grab some staple ingredients and create meals that can be rationed for the week.
My list of food is not exhaustive and yes there are multiple options, however in this video I chose four meals, 2-minute noodles with vegetables, Rice bread, Milk Rice and Lentil Pancakes.
All ingredients were bought from my local Aldi store, and due to the amount, I was unable to buy meat, but if you are able to stretch your money to $15 a week, you can add some sausages to the noodles and butter to the milk bread.
Be creative and think outside the box! you don't need to spend hundreds if you are prepared to save!

This new content of yours is powerful stuff -- showing the opposite end of the spectrum to expensive takeaway, and proving you can have a decent feed with little money and a bit of manual effort. If only more people could see this. Well done mate. 👏👏
By the way, do you have any other socials than TH-cam? Would be keen to follow if so!

Thanks mate, I am trying to mix it up a bit to stay away from promoting too much fast food especially when there are healthier options out there. Granted it does take a small amount of time and effort but the benefits and how you feel after is better. I will continue to do some fast food but not to the same extent.
Also I don’t have other socials, TH-cam is it .

Bag of flour would be quite versatile, but to make things out of it totally requires someone to have more time and to having cooking facilities.
LOVE the lentil pancakes. Another option - Keep cooking the blended mixture over the stove until it dramatically thickens. Pour into a mould and refrigerate overnight. It becomes a sliceable/tofu texture ("shan" tofu).
If someone has some bbq sauce around, then boiling a carrot until just tender then baking it brushed with sauce can make a good hot dog replacement when put between a couple of slices of bread :)

You can absolutely live off 10.00 a week, it depends on what your personal choice of food is, I've done it a lot and it's amazing how far you can go if you pick the right food, your choice of food proved that 👍

These are NOT meals…they’re things you can eat in an emergency, but in no way are they balanced nutritionally. You’d be much better just making rice and beans every night… at least you’d have a complete protein as well as fiber, and carbs. Bump up the beans (2 parts beans, 1 part rice,) and add the carrots and spinach (or onion, frozen peas…all cheap) for color, flavor, and added nutrition. Whole grains such as farro, barley, quinoa, are even better as far as the fiber/nutrition stands, but at least use brown if you’re going to use rice. Would more than one paltry can of beans a week add to the cost? Of course. But not by much and you won’t have as many nutritional concerns. Dried beans are quite a bit less expensive than canned and can be made in large batches for several days use. Slow cookers, if you have one, work great. You can eat cheaply without the malnutrition part!

@@4potslite169 that's a good point. Whilst the meal shown isn't exactly sustainable for the long-term -- say you are homeless or near broke, you could use the little scrapes of money you have to prepare these, and eat for another day (or a few, as shown).
There are a number of people I know who don't work, have the newest and fanciest clothes and devices they've used their dole on, and buy takeaway almost every evening, then wonder why they are in financial struggles. This particular meal might not be for them but I think Rapid is aiming to test and prove the extremely-low-cost concept more than anything.
The previous spaghetti and corn sandwich video drives it home even more as the entire packets were not used and they would keep you full for ages.

These meals are not designed to be balanced, they are as you say eaten in an emergency or when you are strapped for cash. As mentioned in the description these meals are not exhaustive and only a few ideas of what to eat. Lentils are very healthy and contain protein, as well as strong antioxidant and anti inflammatory properties. The rice is also perfect to beef up the meals as are the red beans which also provide fibre and help regulate cholesterol in the blood.
These meals are a better option then fast food which contain too much oils and fat.
I thank you for your comment and the different menu options are endless

@@sc88v28 I understood the reason for the video, and while I appreciate the examples of an emergency menu, there are a few downsides about it, that many people may not understand. As someone who WAS homeless and living in my car for over a yr and a half after loosing my job during covid, I know there are better ways to eat on an extremely tight budget. I managed for over a yr on about $7 a day, w no ill effects. If you need to do this long term there are ways to mitigate the potential health problems. Wasn’t trying to be negative here…just wanted to add some impt considerations. Food insecurity rarely lasts for only a week.

@@4potslite169 thanks mate I really appreciate your feedback and your comments and hope you are doing well now. I do agree that you can sustain cheaper meals over the long term with slightly more funds available. The video was to demonstrate what you could do with very limited funds.

@@Rapid_Australia Thanks for the well wishes (and your ideas). Yes, now doing better after finally getting back to work. It was a very humbling experience but I learned a lot. About taking things for granted, about the difference between need and want, and about my own strengths. (And BTW, I’m a Sheila)
