I work in a food service job. Coffee Chains/bakeries and places like this are told to put an amount equal to 15-20 retail price. If there is a large amount of waste for that particular day and they are feeling generous they will add more to reduce waste. Sometimes if you just go in and ask towards the end of the day, and there is a large amount of waste, some places will give out things on the house to reduce waste. But I used to work for costa, if you have no cakes, chances are all the cakes were opened on that day and no cake has a 1 day shelf life. Muffins are 48 hours and some cakes have a shelf life of 5 days so if I were you, avoid the cakes from costa
I used to work in a Warrens (basically Cornish Greggs) and we had Too Good To Go- from what I remember here's how it works on the workers side of things. We got a number of bags we needed to make up (for us this was like 3-4 bags) and we would exclusively put sandwiches etc going out of date that day, and any pastries/baked goods that have exceeded their shelf life of 2 days. There was also a strict policy from my work that we could not put food in there that was still sellable, so it was kind of just the last pickings left over and rarely anything that exciting. It was extremely rare for us to have sausage rolls or bakes left over especially, usually our bags were full of sandwiches and belgian buns, kind of in line with what your Greggs bag ended up as. It 100% depends on the day and how many bags we needed to make, sometimes we'd only have to make one bag and we would have a tonne to go in there, other days we'd have multiple bags with barely enough for 3 items each. Luck of the draw tbh! Great video btw c:
Oh no fellow Cornishman spotted! Tried it one time with my local Warrens, got 3 medium steak and bacon bite for £4 I think it was... Only day I ever did it because I scranned them all in one day and realised I'd get fucking fat if I didn't delete the app immediately 😂
Thanks for this! Genuinely fascinating to know and I guessed as much! Seems like my friends bag must have had a slow couple of selling days to give him so much!!
@@SamWilder.Maybe some days are better than others. I've only watched a few of your videos have you done a video where you buy solely from reduced areas? Where I live Tunbridge Wells our Boots used to reduce their meal deal food items to 50p on Sundays...really good value for pretty good sandwiches, wraps, pasta salads...sadly they've stopped doing this 😢
I do TGTG at my place of work and we have a value of what the items in the bag should come to. It is basically leftovers but if we feel we cant fill the boxes properly do have to cancle them on the app. Keep the videos coming! Love watching them, recent subscriber over here!
Love Too Good To Go so I was excited to see this video. My husband and I get bagel surprise bags from our favorite bagel shop. We always get a good amount of bagels for $5. The first time we got it was the most - 21 bagels for $5. We get them and we freeze the bagels.
Good challenge. You should do more of these. . My good to go bag I got from greggs last week was fantastic. The best one that I got. When I was handed the bag, i knew it was going to be. a good one. . In my bag were, 2x chicken bake 4pack sausage roll Roast chicken and bacon vlub Mexican chicken oval 2 yums 2 caramel custard doughnuts 2 jam doughnuts 2 ring doughnuts 1 gingerbread man I have had the Costa surprise bag once and wasn't impressed . I got 3 toasties! There's is absolutely no way I would buy the toasted sandwiches full price Try greggs again, you may get a good bag
you did well with the Costa bag- their usual policy is 3 items per bag (as is Starbucks) The costa bag I got was a ham and cheese toastie, a small brownie and a tuna sandwich. Worth what I paid for it but not amazing. We have Pound Bakery nearby their bags are amazing, especially if the manager gets carried away :)
Hi Sam. I wish we had something like this here. Maybe we do and I just don’t know about it. I think this is so darn clever. Nobody should go to bed hungry.☮️
Wenzels which is a local West London bakery chain similar to Greggs does really good TGTG, always with 3-4 sandwiches, pastries, cakes and doughnuts, plus often a huge loaf of bread as well.
I was looking at the Greggs thinking it looked like 4 meals 🤣. You could mix & match restaurant food & grocery store. You could probably make it go pretty far. It’s funny to hear you say “they obviously won’t eat donuts for breakfast“. people have donuts for breakfast in the US all the time.
When I worked at Greggs they just told me to put in any sandwiches, donuts, bakes that were leftover and if there were any biscuits that were going to be leftover to put all of those in too
Restaurant lunch buffeets are great for this, there is one near me that gives you a big container which you fill up with whatever you want that is left
Looks like a decent brunch from Toby Carvery that worked out to £1.40 day. Do they do an evening/dinner option? Those mushrooms and beans counted towards veggies. Beans can sometimes dry out a bit when left out for to long or over-heated. A little bit of water or some ketchup can help fix this. That vegan cheese and beans toastie looked pathetic. Riley sightings at 4:05, 7:38 & 12:08. A thought from Riley "A feast for the eyes, but not the stomach." Riley missed out on becoming Scooby Doo and chowing down on something yummy, maybe next time.
This is such a great idea especially in these uncertain times. I feel like more people are using Too Good To Go more than ever which explains the decrease in the amount in the bags.
The Asian street food section in Asda is the best one I’ve had, £20 worth of stuff for £4 sells out fast but you always get loads, they always have loads of the larger poke or rice bowls left.
I've had a few and they have been hit and miss. I got my first from a Nisa for about £2 and got 4 rustlers burgers and some tikka wraps then went to greggs on a Saturday and only got a few bits for £4. They are good if you are finishing work later and fancy a carvery at 8pm or a late breakfast though.
Reheating eggs is fine, often nuke left over egg foo yung, don't overdo it or they go like rubber and also dry out, reheating in a water bath depending on the type of egg may be best, cause EFY has liquor in it TBF so maybe it's why it reheats as well lol
Interesting experiment. Quite pricey though when you think that covers only one person for 2 meals each day. Its amazing what an air fryer can do to left overs.
I picked up an amazing £5 Pret bag recently and calculated that the original price would have been over £40! Got so much variety, 4 baguettes, 1 sandwich, 1 salad bowl, 1 granola pot!
Too Good to Go bags are filled to meet a minimum value set by that particular retailer - for example Greggs will give you at least £8 worth of items. I don't think those values have really changed at all over the last year or so, but their standard prices have obviously gone up so you end up with less from Too Good to Go compared to the mega full bags people got in the early days. Inflation sucks.
It's times like this, and only times like this, when I almost wish I lived in a major city. I would be all about Too Good To Go if I were able to access it. As much as I love cooking, the monotony of cooking 2 or 3 meals a day, day after day after day is just... uuugh. Sadly, where I live, restaurant meals and even fast food is ridiculously expensive so we almost always cook our meals at home.
You got lucky with the Costa bag. You normally only get 3 items in it. Greggs is very hit and miss. I've ended up with one like your friend's on a couple of occasions but more often I get one like yours. Toby breakfast is my favourite.
At greggs we are told that the bag must be at least £8 value but not much more than that. If we have extra waste we just sell extra bags instead of putting extra items in
I was in a Starbucks once with a mate in the evening having a coffee and cake as we were finishing a staff member came up and offered us free cakes as they were left over and would have been thrown away . And of course we said yes. This was a few years ago I think before too good to go

I love too good to go! I’m impressed and a little bit jealous, you get so much more in your bags than you do by me! I get Costa and Greggs all the time and get like 2 sandwiches, weird. I wonder if it’s because my stores are smaller?
This would have been much better with an Aldi and M&S bag with a Greggs one or Toby roast. Check the rating of Greggs bags, go for one with 4.8 and you should get a good amount. From what I've heard pizza express are just dough balls, and rubbish
Brinner sounds good to me Sam 😀I have been watching your very interesting and helpful videos for 2 months now ,just wanted to thank you for the content .Love your pets by the way they are adorable .Take care now .🫡
Ive had a £4 bag from the premier near mine, got a steak, a whole chicken and loads of fridge stuff more then another bag with about 4 loafs, we also got all the left over hot stuff from the bacon/sausage barm section. The next day was shit, luck of the draw i guess 🙄
15 mins after the store gives away that days bags you will secure one for the next day, and I have purchased over 100 bags from various stores. The morrisons cafe cold sandwich and cake bags are amazing. I got 10 baguette sandwiches in 1 😂😂
If you get a Morrisons bag as part of it that would be good, you get a huge banana box of food, sometimes just fruit and veg but I would love to see your creations @@SamWilder.
Dont know about the uk, but too good to go in Spain is a joke!! 90% of the places who do it are usually cake shops or supermarkets!! the restaurants in my experience have on the whole been disappointing hiding behind the mystery bag excuse!! so when you open up those plastic boxes the food they give you isnt food ready for the bin, but food that was in the fridge. Sadly the very good places who participated in too good to go have left!!
I’m in Australia and we do not have these kind of deals or bags. One sandwich would cost over $12 aud that’s 6 pounds, the veggie breakfast would be $24 aud thats 12 pounds. Cost of food in Australia is generally rather expensive.
