  • In this video I brew another iteration of my house Pale Ale after my last batch had to be dumped because of a contamination that I thought happened on brew day. I also tested an inline chilling method using a new cheap stainless steel immersion chiller I recently purchased. All up te brew day went pretty smoothly but there might still be a lingering issue that has dragged over from my last brew and I will talk about that in my next video.
I'm still setting up my processes to both capture and produce brewing content for my channel and my format will likely change in the future. I hope you enjoy watching my brewing process and if you have any questions you can contact through the links below.

I threw away a kegland grain bag after a single use on a trash kettle. The following week I've received my 65lt digiboil and mash kit upgrade! May I recommend the 35lt mash kit you'll never worry about grain in your wort again! And at the rate I've experienced it will pay for itself in 10 uses!

I like how you hooked up your pump to your Digiboil although when I do all grain through mine it really isn't needed. I think it would be much more effective to actually immerse the wort chiller inside the kettle. I use one 25' immersion chiller in a bucket of ice connected to one 50' immersion chiller placed in my Digiboil. Takes me less than 10 minutes to get down to pitching temp.

They do sell a malt-basket that fits with the digiboil. You should consider that. Then you don't have to worry about holes in the bag anymore. :)

Nice setup! I try to remember that every one of my (many) home brewing screw ups is an opportunity to learn something and do better next time. Seems like you're on the same page 👍

Sorry, another little tip, use crushed ice instead of huge blocks. I know the block last longer, but that's becuse the heat exachange ins't happening. Crushed ice will have a lot more surface area for a lot more heat exchange and a faster cooling rate. This is from a brewer in sunny South Florida where our ground wter can be 85F at times!! Again, just suggestions!! Cheers!!

When you use the immersion chiller break up the ice into smaller pieces it will speed things up a lot.

I would but those 2L blocks of ice are pretty solid! I'm still working on this method so I'll probably have changes to it as i go. And im also experimenting with water through chilling as well.

Are you getting ok efficiency sparging like that? I only ask as in your given setup you may do better with a dunk sparge. It's hard to rinse a lot of sugar from the bag that way. for me anyways. Either way, cheers to homebrewing!!

Awesome! I'm just using my brew pot but was looking at getting a chiller. Mind shooting me a link for the chiller and couplings you got? Thanks Matt

Great vids mate. Have you checked the temp calibration on your digiboil? I've found that my display reads about 2-3 degrees higher than the actual temp. So when I want to mash at say 66 degrees, I usually have to set it to about 68-69 and monitor it to ensure it keeps it right. It's not out by a massive amount but those couple of degrees can make a bit of a difference over the course of an hour long mash.

I would try freezing the water with the immersion chiller in the bucket.

Thanks for the video mate. I'm just curious how important is it to do water chemistry? I'm trying to do abit of research on what I need to put in the water but can't find anything

Loving the vids. Just wondering how you've added the cam lock fitting to the tap on the digiboil?

Hi Matt, the tap has a 1/2 BSP thread on it so i just unscrewed the barb that came with the tap and screwed on the camlock

If your sparge is not above 6 PH you would be better off using all the acid in the Mash and target a Mash PH of about 5.4.

How does bru'n water suffer from the services that brewfather provide?
I really want to get better at water chemistry

    • @thebackyardbrewer5611
      @thebackyardbrewer5611  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I've never used brewfather so cant comment on that one. So far Bru'n water has been a big step up from the free brewers friend calculator online that i've used in the past. The only issue i'm having is with my hardness and i don't have an accurate enough analysis of that so burn water is underestimating my acid addition but i can compensate for that over time.
