  • This is the second attempt at making a quality stout from scratch. Using the Brew In A Bag BIAB method I make a great tasting stout that I believe can be slightly improved on.

    This was great information for someone looking to do their first BIAB. I have been brewing extract kits for almost 2 years and want to buy an all grain system. But first I want to do a BIAB to get a feel for things. I like that you spent 30min going over everything taking it all the way to the sampling of the beer. Having the grain recipe, the water amounts and grain amount gave me an idea of what things will look like on brew day. I really had no idea of what 7 pounds of grain would look like so yeah good stuff. Thanks! Brew on and keep putting out good content. Much appreciated.

      Thank you very much. I have been aiming to target people in your position with my videos and this is the feedback I need to reinforce the fact that I am doing the right thing. All grain brewing is definitely very rewarding. Hope it comes out well.

    Great job and reminded me of when I did all my brews in a bag (first two years easily). I kind of miss doing 1 gallon batches as I could do multiples at the same time. Also I noticed a "Resident" allowed you to use the Flaked Oatmeal... I would guess that was your wife, very funny reference. My wife can't stand the smell of beer from a mile away that is why I went outside to brew early on. I've been itching to do a stout but just haven't done it. Was planning this weekend but maybe next weekend with a Kveik yeast perhaps.

    Hi mate, Chlorine will boil out of the water but Chloramine wont ,it has to be treated with a campden tablet.
    Once it gets into the mash it bonds itself to the malt and wont boil out in the wort boil either. its a bugger.
    So better go back to using a campden tablet. Also (sorry mate) CaSO4 will lower the pH a bit and increase the perceived bitterness . Its good stuff. Sorry I dont mean to be a pain , just learning together. Cheers mate good video alway enjoy what youve got to share.

      Thanks Finn I appreciate all the great feedback you have given me. I did a bit of research on this one and found You can boil Chloramine from tap water it just takes a long time.The evaporation estimate of 1 ppm of Chlorine when boiling 10 gallons (37.8 Lt) of water is just above 3.5 minutes. However, it will take around 60 minutes (1 hour) of boiling to let out all the Chloramine of the same amount of water. Campden tabs will make this a lot easier for sure I just needed to experiment. Cheers. Pierre

      @@SimpleHomeBrew Good work Pierre, so you dont want to boil your water for an hour ,right? And once that gets into your mash it will stay there. Cheers mate good work and brew on together.

      @@finnroohomebrewing1846 Oh I see, it doesn't boil out of the wort after you have finished the mash. The molecules stay in the wort. Makes sense now thanks

    Excellent video Pierre👍👍👍
    I really enjoyed it and it was full of excellent advice👍👍👍
    I use the Grainfather but have never used the BIAB method before.
    A lot of my mates over here use the no chill method and they reckon it cuts out a lot of time and effort.
    Cheers mate 👍👍👍

    Hey Pierre great video. I only have the grainfather boiler and am looking at doing this. Are you able to use the pump while it sits at mash

    • @SimpleHomeBrew
      @SimpleHomeBrew  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Brendan, for sure use the pump to circulate the wort it will give a more even steep. Just make sure you don't run it too fast as the fluid could drain too low and run it dry.
