- Israel video tour with David Hyman, professional tour guide. Stella Maris is Latin for "The Star of the Sea" referring to one of the titles of the Virgin Mary and her role as patron of the Carmelites. The Carmelite Catholic order was founded during the 3rd Crusade by Monks who sought isolation in the caves of Mount Carmel, with Prophet Elijah as their model as their inspiration and role model. The northern point of mount Carmel overlooked the Mediterranean sea and the entire bay of Haifa and the Galilee region and was for centuries a site for military presence and religious devotion. Our tour today will lead us inside the church of the Carmelites, Stella Maris.
The Church is open for visits and also serves as a Parish church for many Haifa Christians. The church was built on top of a natural cave, dedicated to Prophet Elijah and above the cave an Alter with the statue of the Virgin Mary can be seen.
From the Church, we will take the steep path down the hill towards the mediteranain coast and search for Elijah's cave. The cave was venerated for many generations by local Jews, Muslims, and Druze families as the cave where Elijah went into hiding when persecuted by Queen Jezebel and King Ahab.
Unfortunately, the cave was closed for renovation during my visit.

I love your videos. If you get a chance, could you do one on Neot Kedumim? I had the opportunity of planting a tree there 3 years ago, and would love to see it again.
