Capernaum - The town of Jesus

  • Israel video tour with David Hyman, professional tour guide. The Galilee town of Capernaum is the town mentioned most times in the New Testament after Jerusalem. Capernaum is the mispronunciation of the Hebrew name Kfar (village) of Nachum. The town was one of the Judean fishing towns along the northern shore of the lake, that thrived during the first century CE, and the main income was from fishing, farming, and possibly trade as the town was a border town on the ancient highway leading north to Damascus. The Gospels tell us the Jesus left Nazareth and settled in Capernaum for about three years, in which the town became the base of Jesus's ministry in Galilee. This is where Jesus performed many of the miracles of healing and exorcism, from here Jesus went on his journies to Banias, Kursi, Sidon, and the Mount of Beatitudes. From here Jesus boarded the boat to preach from the sea and it is here where Jesus recruited his first four disciples, all fishermen from this region. Our tour will take us to the highlights of Capernaum, which were excavated and restored by the Franciscan fryers. First, we will visit the White Synagogue dating to the 4th century AD and the display f the engraved stone items. Then we will observe the ruins of Jesus's room in Saint Peter's home and the modern church that was built above them. We will end with a relaxing and meditative stroll along the waters of Lake Kineret - The Sea of Galilee.

Please pray for me. Heavenly Father in Christ I put all my trust into you. I’m keeping my faith in Jesus. I was fired from my job for not getting the vaccine. I’m a single mother with two boys. I’m struggling desperately to provide for them. I’ve been out of work for over a month. I’m so ashamed of my situation. I have no family nor friends. But I KNOW GOD WILL PROVIDE! Thank you Jesus!

Cappadocian Greek (Cappadocian Greek: Καππαδοκικά, Καππαδοκική Διάλεκτος), also known as Cappadocian is a dialect of modern Greek, originally spoken in Cappadocia (modern-day Central Turkey) by the descendants of the Byzantine Greeks of Anatolia.[3] The language originally diverged from Medieval Greek after the late medieval migrations of the Turks from Central Asia into what is now Turkey began cutting the Cappadocians off from the rest of the Greek-speaking Byzantine (Eastern Roman) Empire. As a result of the population exchange between Greece and Turkey in 1923, all remaining speakers (known in Turkey as Rûm, and referred to now as Cappadocian Greeks) were forced to emigrate to Greece where they were resettled in various locations, primarily in Central and Northern Greece. The Cappadocians were encouraged to shift to Standard Modern Greek as part of their integration into Greece, and their language was thought to be extinct since the 1960s. In June 2005, Mark Janse (Ghent University) and Dimitris Papazachariou (University of Patras) discovered Cappadocians in Central and Northern Greece who could still speak their ancestral language fluently. Many are middle-aged, third-generation speakers who take a very positive attitude towards the language, as opposed to their parents and grandparents.[4] The latter are much less inclined to speak Cappadocian and more often than not switch to Standard Modern Greek.

I praise God for His faithfulness in preserving this piece of archaeology. In a sense, one can think of the Sea of Galilee and truly sing, "I sailed today where Jesus sailed in days of long ago. . . ." I'm planning to visit Capernaum early next year with a tour of other pastors. Your videos are helping to better prepare me for what, Lord willing, I'm hoping to see.

I'm curious about the star of David motifs. I understood that this Jewish symbol dates to the 17th century CE. So, what's it doing in a synagogue dating to the 5th to 10 century CE?

I say unto you, that it shall be more tolerable in that day for Sodom, than for that city. Woe unto you, Chorazin! Woe unto you, Bethsaida! for if the powers had been done in Tyre and Sidon, which have been done in you, they would have repented long ago, sitting in sackcloth and ashes. But it shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon at the judgment, than for you. And you, Capernaum, which are exalted to heaven? You shall be thrust down unto Hades. He that hears you hears me; and he that despises you despises me; and he that despises me despises him that sent me..

It's actually mispronounced from Hebrew. The correct pronunciation is Kfar Nachum כפר נחום

@@IsraelwithDavidHyman Yep. I just like the way Cayper Nom sounds. If we were in such critical times - I would actually start a petition asking Jesus for a Name Change. ;)

Eusebius of Caesarea put in more Passovers but not the festivals in the book of John . Our Messiah reads from the scrolls in Luke 4:19 the “acceptable year of the Lord “ John 6:4 says “ the Passover , a festival of the Jews was nigh . That means very soon . But Yeshua is traveling north away from Jerusalem and feeding the 5,000 with leaven barley loaves of bread . Problem is the barley is the first fruits in Israel , harvested during the feast of unleavened bread Eusebius has placed the cart in front of the horse .
