Also interested in hearing about how well you think Super Cruise works. That’s a feature I would love to have on my next car . Definitely on my shortlist to eventually replace my Ioniq5. Congratulations on your Equinox EV purchase. The FWD Equinox EV is a really bold move for GM and I think it will be a home run as it checks all the consumer boxes to be a very competitive entry for the 2024 market. What I think GM's success is the Equinox EV’s 85 kWh pack with 10 modules and a pack configuration of 80S 3P that keeps the nominal pack voltage down to 288V (with 3.6V at cell level) and that keeps the Equinox FWD EV a 300 + mile range vehicle at a good price. Do not let the 150 KW charge peak deter you as Chevy has done a good job keeping the charging curve reasonable at a voltage closer to 300V than 400V. The battery pack life cycle remains high because GM chose not to apply over voltage to the cells in the packs with a very good battery management. I definitely like your purchase choice, I have been waiting for the release of the 85 kWh pack in GM's line up. In all appearances it looks to be a market winner.

      I love the car, but they will need to improve the charging. I have the charge curve video coming out next week, but it looks very similar to the Lyric curve before the update. Hopefully they fix the Equinox and Blazer like the fixed the Lyric.
      If they do, I think this car especially the 1LT are going to be a major hit.

      @@theaverageev I own a Lyriq. The charging curve has been noticeably improved having the navigation pre-condition the battery. The GM 102 KWh battery is configured differently at 400v. That does not make them better, but does up production cost. GM does frequent software updates so improvements happen to the driving experience.

    Okay I got a few things I’d like you to test out and answer:
    1. I know CarPlay and Android Auto is not available on the GM EV platforms. And GM is pushing their infotainment/Google interface. However, as one that uses apple and apple products, are the apps from the infotainment App Store (such as Apple Podcasts and Apple Maps) are they available to download?
    2. On the note of podcasts and platforms (Apple Podcasts or Spotify) are you able to download episodes for offline mode or is it stream only? I’ve had plenty of times driving through mountains or plains where there is no cell coverage and offline mode is useful. If you can download episodes to the vehicle how much storage space is available?
    3. Do you need to have an Onstar subscription in order to use the apps on the vehicle OR can you tether the car to your phone’s hotspot and use the data from your phone - thus saving having another subscription service?
    4. Are you able to download the Tesla app onto the infotainment system, have your account and utilize the map/route planning with that app.
    5. with the Tesla app and account (and other charging apps like EA) on the infotainment system, can the charging with each respective stations function as a “plug and play”? Or do you have to fumble with the app while plugged in order to start the charge?
    I look forward to seeing more videos!

If you charge at home with a car like the FWD Equinox EV with 300+ mile range you will find 90% of the time you will not ever see a DC fast charger. For the 10% of the drive time DC fast charging in the US is about on par with the gas pump in cost.

    My Model 3 was a piece of junk compared to my Volt. So I’ve been waiting for the Equinox EV. GM really needs to get over the “most people don’t road trip” mentality and commit to faster charging in addition to better capacity. I saw today the trims were made available for 2025 model year and there is. It 1, 2, 3LT. It’s just LT and RS with options packages. And the LT with no options is very basic. It loses a lot of the things that make this a compelling car like the safety systems.

    I will get my Eq EV next week. Like several other viewers, looking forward to tutorials on how to utilize all the tech! My last new vehicle was a 2011 so it’s all new to me. I have access to a charger that yields 3.3 - 6.6 kw. Hoping that will work for my 30 mi daily drives?

    • @theaverageev
      @theaverageev  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Is that charger at home or work? It should be ok if it is! If not, it might be worth finding a lower power DC fast charger to top off when needed.

    • @DavidBelitsky
      @DavidBelitsky 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@theaverageev So now it gets complicated. I thought DC fast chargers would only be possible at a commercial location. I’m pretty sure that my household, 100amp circuits cannot support a 150Kw DC charge circuit? Where would one find a “lower power” DC charger?

    • @theaverageev
      @theaverageev  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@DavidBelitsky I mean like a 50KW, 60kW, or 100kW public charger. Not one at your house. Sorry for the confusion! Definitely can’t get one of those at home.

    I can’t believe you bought this car and didn’t notice any of these things or do any research before you bought it. 110 V charging is painfully slow on any EV. I can’t believe you complaining about the styling. You bought the thing and then you don’t like the way it looks? You didn’t notice how the doorhandles work when you test drove one ? I think it’s very attractive and a great value.

      The no Apple Music app is the biggest miss. You can still play from you phone via bluetooth, but it is not as convenient as CarPlay. I use Spotify, so there is an app for that on the Google Play Store fortunately.

    What is going on? Why are the chinense EV cars much better and a whole lot cheaper?! If they aren't gonna make 20k-25k ev cars, i will have no choice to buy chinese ev in mexico and them import it into the US

      Chinese cars have many issues and many of them (especially the cheap ones) don’t charge much better.
      They are able to sell them for so cheap because the companies are completely subsidized by the Chinese government and the scale of some of their operations.
