It's more correctly called a nagabatu because it is not a monitor lizard, true monitor lizards are more closely related to beaded lizards while the nagabatu is basal to both.

@dragonz_eye, "nagabatu" is the correct name for Lathanotus borneensis since it is not a monitor lizard at all, the two individual words have been combined into one word to make one new english name for this animal as a derivation, "nagabatu" seems perfect enough for Lathanotus borneensis due to its appearance resembling a living dragon made of stone, especially because its bumpy skin looks like it is made of stone, thus describing it as a living gargoyle, "monitor lizard" refers exclusively to the family Varanidae, while the nagabatu (Lathanotus borneensis) is the sole extant species in the family Lathanotidae, both families belong to the superfamily Varanoidea, but they are not closely related, the Lathanotidae family is the most basal extant family of the Varanoidea superfamily while the true monitor lizards are more closely related to the beaded lizards (family Helodermatidae), thus making lathanotids basal to both beaded lizards and monitor lizards.

Great question. The filter pushes water around, and I can adjust the flow rate. Also, the waterfall pump moves it around pretty well. Love it, I have wanted a paludarium for a while. Long ago we made a wall by cutting Plexiglas and covering it with rocks. We used it in an aquarium to make the exit for an underground filter. The wall was probably 6 inches tall and about halfway up we cut a hole and attached the power head, put a lid on and covered the top with gravel. The bottom of the tank was sand. The power head caused a nice current, and what was really funny is the fish liked to take rides in it. Especially the kuhli loaches. Thank you for the good info on this video!!
cool build for a unique monitor. also nice to see a large paludarium that actually has actual soil rather than just like a log with a bunch of epiphytes and house plants on it. i had planned on building something akin to this from glass, including the barrier, so im gonna have to check that epoxy out
Thank you, and that was a thought to use glass as a divider. But for the look I was going for, it wasn't gonna work. I've been working with zoopoxy for some time now, and it's amazing. You can literally do anything with it for hardscapes. Definitely look into it, you won't be disappointed! Lmk of you have any questions if you do try it.

@annataymond9529 thank you and compared to some of my other builds it's simple 😆. But it get it. There are a lot of steps, but each step are fairly easy to achieve.
Thank you. I’ve been really into paludariums. Been too afraid to try it until watching your videos and I finally took the plunge. I’m practicing on a 10 gallon just to make my mistakes now and just improve.
@cudasfishkeeping5435 that's a great plan. Start small to learn the fundamentals then go as big as you want. I'm glad my videos helped you take the plunge into building your own. Any questions feel free to ask. Most important have fun with it!
So many great ideas. I just ordered some pond liner and other things to beef up one of my mangroves vivs. Going to try out the ol Mikes monitor’s socialization caging system. Ive got 4 of them so Im going to try some things see what works best for each one.
@@bradsbioactivebuilds I set it up today and did it all with the monitor in the viv and with 15 mins he was in the pond exploring saw me and gave no f’s. Before he would see me and freeze or bolt.
The best set up I've seen so far with minimal foam on the back. Maximizing room for the lizard. Only thing I would add are aquatic microfauna and botanicals as part of your aquatic clean up crew. 😍
@@bradsbioactivebuildsI recommend asellus aquaticus (I think that's how it's spelled), gammarus shrimp, clam shrimp, daphnia basically ostracods. Then paramecium, hydra etc. You'll want a good general selection.
I agree with Will…this is insane ! But another absolutely amazing build done by you…just on a smaller scale haha ! & just like I thought….definitely not “simple” 🤣🙃 it’s very detail oriented w/lots of components lol. But this small build is totally bad ass ! 🤯👑🤙🏻 I’d love to have a giant version of this for my peach throat ! Like I keep saying…let me know if you take your show on the road haha ! & what a cool little monitor ! Never heard of that species before ? Thank you very much Amy! You rock! When I go "mobile" I'll definitely be stopping by! He is a very cool species to care for and I'm honored to do so! Your continued support is appreciated! P.s and yes simple compared to my other builds 😆 🤘💯🤘
I've always wanted to do something like this but with me still being in high school its hard to do something this complex so I'm always so amazed to see people actually taking time and effort into making things like this Also I love earless monitors their so cute yet so draconic probably my favorite lizard, maybe even my favorite reptile. Also I'm pretty sure I saw those exactly babies on the cold blooded website crazy how small this planet it ( also not sure if your planning on it in the future but may you also record a video on making its 2nd enclosure if it gets one, once its older? )
@Griff-Chan if you do try something like this just take your time and have fun with it. Earless monitors are awesome so I can see why it would be your favorite. I'll definitely make a video for his larger enclosure when the time comes!

Haha so there’s the story behind that 😂🤣🤴🏻🦎
@frankharris6019 thanx. I'm not sure how much zoopoxy I used cuz I had a 10 gallon kit. But if I had to guess I would say I could have ordered the 2 gallon kit for this build and have some left over. Branches I got from glassboxtropicals.com/ it is the ghost wood. Hope this helps
Hey Brad. What do you think about using Mylar instead of pond liner to help protect a wooden enclosure from moisture? I've tried pondliner its hard to get it flat without wrinkles. I have a bunch of mylar bags I could cut up and use the big ones to line my tank. You think that's a good idea? Lol
Not sure about Mylar but check out polygem 1618 epoxy or even zoopoxy. You'll definitely be good either that. When it comes to water it is better to over build than to leave it to chance. Hope this helps
10/10 video and thanks for introducing an amazing species that makes me want to build a paladarium. At $3000 I dpubt I could ever justify one of these as a pet lol.
Great question and yes, for the background I could have used drylok instead of the zoopoxy. I have a lot of zoopoxy at the moment so I used it. It is amazing and worth getting if you can! Hope that helps
@@bradsbioactivebuilds thank you, that does help! I have a lot of extra grout myself and was thinking of using that on top of some foam to build up a really solid, strong background. And then coloring/ water proofing it with dry lock extreme. Although, for most small animals, this grout step is likely unnecessarily since they would not be capable of destroying a background made with foam and dry lock. But it might help add stability to ledges!
Thank you! Jabba is fitting! I do have a raffle going on now with the large 8x4x6 paludarium series I'm doing. I'll be raffling off a 4x2x2.5 (or smaller if wanted) ways to enter will be all throughout the series. I'll announce the winner in the last video. In the future, I will sell them, but they won't be cheap only bc of the offers I have received and the time it takes me to do them. Thank you for watching!
I know there are leopard gecko enclosures everywhere but I would love to see a in depth and amazing build like this one! I would love to see a leopard gecko arid ecosystem!
Yes, kinda prefrance. I always want to carve it first but I either forget or think it flows better when installed so I can match up my carving. Great question! 🤘💯🤘
Thank you for this great Video. I haven't heard of zoopoxy, but if I can get a hand on that stuff I would like to give it a try. You gave me a lot of inspiration.
At least in the EU & UK they're pretty regularly bred. Like they're not commonly available but at the same time they're not too hard to come across if you get what I mean?
I use the arcadia LumenIZE uvb and fluval aquasky. I had an extra aquasky laying aroundnitherwise I would have used the arcadia LumenIze LED and connected the 2 together. Hope this helps
From what i have read, no, they mostly stay in the water. Although I d8d put him back into his grow-out enclosure bc he is still small and he did climb up vertically behind the back waterfall corkbark. I was surprised he was able to do that quickly, too. I added the branches on the right side for cosmetics, but im also curious to see if he does climb. Not a lot is known about them, so I'll update with a video when I see more behavior from him

Super cool thank you so much !!! I’m new and I just wanted to know if the pump doesn’t spread vibrations that can disturb the animal or not ? Thank you 😍

Yall hit the like for this man love your story bro god bless you fam love your work 🔥✝️
Thanx brother, much appreciated! God bless you and your fam too!
🤘💯🤘 ✝️
This is really cool, but simple is definitely not a word I would ever use to describe it.
What up Gary! The MMSCS works like a charm, you won't be disappointed! Have fun with the vivs and build on brother!
@@bradsbioactivebuilds I set it up today and did it all with the monitor in the viv and with 15 mins he was in the pond exploring saw me and gave no f’s. Before he would see me and freeze or bolt.
@@GarysTandAExotics thate what's up, already off to a good start!
The best set up I've seen so far with minimal foam on the back. Maximizing room for the lizard. Only thing I would add are aquatic microfauna and botanicals as part of your aquatic clean up crew. 😍
@Ceretrea thank you and i agree. I'll be doing an update video soon and wanted to add some Microfauna, any suggestions?
@@bradsbioactivebuildsI recommend asellus aquaticus (I think that's how it's spelled), gammarus shrimp, clam shrimp, daphnia basically ostracods. Then paramecium, hydra etc. You'll want a good general selection.
@Ceretrea awesome, thanx for the recommendations 🤘💯🤘
Perfect pet for that enclosure.
Thank you, looking forward to him growing into it!
🤘💯🤘
I agree with Will…this is insane !
But another absolutely amazing build done by you…just on a smaller scale haha ! & just like I thought….definitely not “simple” 🤣🙃 it’s very detail oriented w/lots of components lol. But this small build is totally bad ass ! 🤯👑🤙🏻 I’d love to have a giant version of this for my peach throat ! Like I keep saying…let me know if you take your show on the road haha !
& what a cool little monitor ! Never heard of that species before ? You should name him Neo…like in the matrix 😎lol…but short for Borneo !
He truly does incredible work and nice to see you watch his videos as well 🙌
@@pumpkinchow his work is definitely incredible without a doubt ! Pretty sure I’ve watched almost all of his videos and each one just blows me away more and more ! I keep telling him he should do mobile enclosure building for people ! How amazing would that be ! lol
@@amysreptileadventures6664 I’ve watched them all and couple of them multiple times and I’ve been using some of his ideas on my own. That is also a great idea for mobile enclosures I know I’d love one.
Thank you very much Amy! You rock! When I go "mobile" I'll definitely be stopping by!
He is a very cool species to care for and I'm honored to do so!
Your continued support is appreciated!
P.s and yes simple compared to my other builds 😆

Magnifique mec 👍😉
Thank you 🤘💯🤘
I've always wanted to do something like this but with me still being in high school its hard to do something this complex so I'm always so amazed to see people actually taking time and effort into making things like this
Also I love earless monitors their so cute yet so draconic probably my favorite lizard, maybe even my favorite reptile. Also I'm pretty sure I saw those exactly babies on the cold blooded website crazy how small this planet it
( also not sure if your planning on it in the future but may you also record a video on making its 2nd enclosure if it gets one, once its older? )
@Griff-Chan if you do try something like this just take your time and have fun with it. Earless monitors are awesome so I can see why it would be your favorite. I'll definitely make a video for his larger enclosure when the time comes!
@@bradsbioactivebuilds I'm glad you actually saw my comment, tysm! I will Definity continue to watch your videos for further assistance even in the far future! Tysm for tips and again cant wait to see the little guy grow up!😁
Fantastic
Thank you 🤘 💯 🤘
nice build . that reptile looks like a little croc by the way Brad last wednesday got my two little baby frilled dragons =D
Thank you, and yeah, they're like a cross between a croc and gila monster. CONGRATULATIONS on your baby Frilled Dragons. Happy for you! That's so cool. One day, I'd love to have some!
Your continued support is appreciated!

Can you please make a leopard gecko. Vivarium I know it’s A lot to ask but I really think you can show us an amazing enclosure build like their environment! Thank You!
That is a great idea ! I have 3 leopard geckos myself. A leopard gecko build by “king Brad” here haha would be absolutely amazing just like all of his other ones ! I would love to see what he would come up with !
I definitely agree a leopard gecko setup would be incredible little desert type theme with succulents 🤯🤷♂️ I can see it now
@@amysreptileadventures6664I love that “King Brad” 🤣
@@pumpkinchow haha thanks 😂🙂
I think I found his channel shortly after he started it. & after watching the first couple huge enclosure builds that he did….i always thought to myself…This guy is the King of reptile enclosure building ! 😱🤯😃🦎lol !! So of course, in the comments on 1 of his videos…I had to tell him that haha & it’s stuck ever since 🤣🤣 So I always call him “King Brad” king of enclosure building ! 🤣 & of course he deserves the crown 👑 for all of his hard work he puts into these amazing builds !
Haha so there’s the story behind that 😂🤣🤴🏻🦎
@@amysreptileadventures6664 that’s great and he absolutely does incredible work and couldn’t agree more hands down best enclosure builder 👑
When Im older I plan to try this too. You are so inpiaring man💯💯
It was a fun build, keep at it! 💯
Best best BEST VIDEO YOU EVER MADE LOVE IT 2:58
Thank you very much! It was a fun one to do!
How much polygem zoopoxy did you use for this build and what kind of branches did you use? It looks great!
@jordanwilde9226 thank you, it was definitely a fun build to put together. I hope you build a paludarium, you will enjoy it!
BRO that was cool
@ERICABARNER thank you, definitely a fun build!
Did you say that you could just use more dry lock instead of having to use the zoo-poxi?
This is definitely not beginner level stuff, but a fascinating watch nonetheless
@benedgmon8913 glad u found it fascinating 🤘💯🤘
Name Suggestion! Jabba and as for the build it was bonkers! In the BEST Way! And how much would you chargd for one? All done up like that!
Oh he’s gorgeous!!!
Thank you, truly an amazing animal!
I love this species. One of the traits I really like is the darker earthy colors on the body being contrasted with the bright blue eyes.
I couldn't agree more! They are amazing!
Amazing setup..thank you😮
Of course, thanx for watching!
I know there are leopard gecko enclosures everywhere but I would love to see a in depth and amazing build like this one! I would love to see a leopard gecko arid ecosystem!
Stay tuned, that one is a few builds away!
🤘💯🤘
Vincent is amazing
@holywatergum6890 i liked this one too!
Why did you put the foam in before shaping it? Is it just preference?
Yes, kinda prefrance. I always want to carve it first but I either forget or think it flows better when installed so I can match up my carving.
Great question!
🤘💯🤘
Thank you for this great Video. I haven't heard of zoopoxy, but if I can get a hand on that stuff I would like to give it a try. You gave me a lot of inspiration.
@stefanjaekel8463 zoopoxy is a great product to work with, and im glad u got some inspiration from the video!
Badass bro!
@@ryanmedina2146 thank you! 🤘💯🤘
is that borneo earless monitor? is nearly extinct in my country brother how y get that
He makes a mention during the reveal that he got it from a shop that breeds monitors.
I was able to get a USCBB from Cold Blooded Shop. They were great to work with!
🤘💯🤘
At least in the EU & UK they're pretty regularly bred. Like they're not commonly available but at the same time they're not too hard to come across if you get what I mean?
They aren't illegal to own just cost 2-5k lol closest I'll get to a dragon is my red eye croc skink 😊
There is no such thing as an "earless monitor lizard", the correct name for Lathanotus borneensis is "nagabatu".
too cool bro, like a pro!
@diegoennio thanx bro! 🤘💯🤘
I love this build
@@WolfPackDragons thank you!
Hey I’m about to finish my paludarium. What light did you use?
I use the arcadia LumenIZE uvb and fluval aquasky. I had an extra aquasky laying aroundnitherwise I would have used the arcadia LumenIze LED and connected the 2 together.
Hope this helps
I have a question related to earless monitor. Do they enjoy climbing?
From what i have read, no, they mostly stay in the water. Although I d8d put him back into his grow-out enclosure bc he is still small and he did climb up vertically behind the back waterfall corkbark. I was surprised he was able to do that quickly, too. I added the branches on the right side for cosmetics, but im also curious to see if he does climb. Not a lot is known about them, so I'll update with a video when I see more behavior from him
@@bradsbioactivebuilds Thanks!

Bro you should have wayyyy more than 15k. Maybe try doing a colab with a bigger creator like serpa design, I'm sure that they'd love to work with someone as talented as yourself. Thanks for the help bro. Instant subscribe and like.
@user-yu8yf6kh9l thanx for the sub and comment. A colab would be a fun project to do, who knows what the future holds! And I'm happy to help!
This is great stuff man, i too often over engineer. I need to do a new Triblonotus Paludarium. I can see the hatchlings finding their way into the cork tube though, i dont mind a bit of hard plumbing.
@@jamesmorss9940 agreed, over engineering prevents issues in the future! Have fun with your future paludarium!

I’m new and I just wanted to know if the pump doesn’t spread vibrations that can disturb the animal or not ? Thank you 😍
@Raouaisympa of course and the pump doesn't really vibrate to much at all.
