Glad you are enjoying the Thrawn trilogy. I think one of the disappointments of the star wars sequel films was that they did not mine any of the legends or other narrative works and instead made an inconsistent mess.
I listened to the audiobook of CoS and i thought the narration/performance was top notch, really added to my enjoyment. I liked it more than Alien Clay. 🤷♂️
Great video Niki! I’m glad that you mentioned this might be a good place for fantasy readers to start with Tchaikovsky. It does sound good to me, but I guess I better not read the blurb. 😂
Haha yes for the love of, don’t read the back. Of the hardcover at least. I actually think you’d enjoy Guns of the Dawn a bit more as a starting place.
I hear this is a dying earth novel which makes me want to read it but it’s a little longer than all the other dying earth works I’ve read. I’ve only read one Tchaikovsky and thought it was ok.
It’s a really unique take on dying earth that may be worth the page count. Although I think “rebelling earth” might fit the description a bit better. The flora and fauna was the best element.
Haha I did enjoy the Thief’s Gamble series, although I read it so long ago I can’t ensure my level of taste at the time. She has a bunch more I don’t even own.
@@miyayume_eclectic_dream You may want to try Elder Race, which is a novella, and still the best thing I've read from him. I don't remember any bugs in it, if there are, they don't play any major roles in the story...
I read Cages of Souls a few month ago, and I also have mixed feeling about it. Overall, I agree with you, he tried to put too much stuff in this book, and that includes that ending that didn't seems to really fit the story. I think I rated it 3 out of 5 because I also didn't like going back and forth chronologically. There wasn't really any point in telling the story like that...
You said that perfectly - the ending didn’t fit the story. I don’t think I minded the back and forth until the tunnels portion. Before that it was kind of fun. I also wish he’d done more with “Ghaki” which I don’t know how to spell. But I guess at least it was memorable!
I am a life long Star Wars fan. I did not like those original Thrawn books. Though I thought it was cool that he showed up on the Ahsoka streaming series.

I couldn’t have put it better! All that good lore and they just messed up their opportunity haha.

I liked the audio as well! It’ll be fun to read most of these and then do some sort of ranking. So far CoS is in the top half.

I think you would like The Borribles Trilogy by deLarrabeiti. It is available in an omnibus.
It looks like fun! I've marked it on my TBR - thanks. :D

Something funny. I have a lot of Juliet McKenna but not that series. Lol

I really like Adrian Tchaikovsky's writing but a few books by him didn't work for me. Cage of Souls was one of those.
Which one worked? I want to read one but bugs are a no-go for me 😖

I hear you! This one was a bit wild and weird.
With the no bugs, I’d definitely recommend Guns of the Dawn - so, so good!

That’s really cool! Because it means that if I liked those, I have even better stuff to look forward to. :D
