How I choose reviews and reviewers to follow. They pop up like weed these days. Confuse???

AGY, thank you for posting this. "Fact versus opinion" needs to be emphasized more and more, so it is truly noteworthy that you address this here and now. Many of us believe this is true but it needs to be said plainly and clearly, as you do. Your efforts here are much appreciated.
@@les5309 And we need to remind the public often. The message has to be spread around all the time. People forget things faster than they hear. 😝😆
Good afternoon thank you for keeping me company on my drive home. Very interesting and yes, I remember most of those magazines that you mentioned especially UHF that brings back some many pleasant memories of reading those long articles and wondering about what I could get back in the day, thank you take care.☕️
Fact or opinion. Beautiful! That is my opinion! Fact is I follow you because i value your opinion. Have a great day!💞
Another sensible video, of course!
One thing I’ve heard more of lately (on forums and whatnot) is that more people are buying audio products based purely on reviews - because of lack of brick and mortar stores in their area. Too bad for those people - it’s hard to trust your ears when they can’t hear any products.
I’m lucky to be within ‘earshot’ of Absolute Sound (Chatham, Ontario. AG-Y dealer)!
FYI: There is an archive of Stereo Review magazines (and others) at "World Radio History".
Very True ! They are like weeds , grows on monitory incentives and subscriptions !!
Many do just that. A hand full of that are not. Very difficult to find tough.
nice historical perspective, thankx
as Dirty Hairy once said, "a man's got to know his limitations"
Been looking forward to this video since you mentioned it was coming a few weeks ago. Thanks!
@@brianyee5504 Have you watch it?
@@angela-gilbertyes!…going out to buy a newer, larger capacity “BS filter”.
@@brianyee5504 Reviews are all BS. They have their merit. It is the reader responsibility to decide how to take it. A bigger BS filter is always good to have. Actually, stronger BS filter is better than bigger.
@@angela-gilbert *Stronger*… ok. Got it!
@@brianyee5504 Ya mon. Thicker and stronger and don't let the poop pass through. 🤪😝😆
Yes, there are a lot of subjective opinions, and each one is as valid as the next (as long as they are being truthful!). I do not care for people who tell me that i am not hearing what i heard, because they have a different experience. AGY has great advice, follow people you trust but also importantly trust your own ears!
@@davelistenstohifi Well said Dave. There are still good reviewers out there. Like you said, being truthful what you say in the review. Everyone hear differently and in different room and condition. As long as we understand what are personal opinion and what are facts.
Well, I follow a number of them because the subjectmatter (stereo equipment) interests me
However there is not one of them I take too seriously.
@@alexandervaneijken7741 Well said.
Suggested title for this video: "CAN YOU TRUST ANYONE??? The whole industry is changing!!"
Should drive up clicks :)
(Nice to hear your perspectives, AG)
@@tonysilker9685 I may make another one with your suggested title. I was being polite in this one. It seems a lot are seeing the same thing as I do.
Agree 💯, some reviewers have their all time favourite piece of equipment that changes every second week. Some are great talkers but after a few videos it all starts sounding the same. Punches well above price point etc. etc..
Back in the 80’s I read all the magazines you mentioned. Most were pushing gear that was being advertised on the next page. It became quite obvious. Absolute Sound was one that didn’t seem to play that game. I use to follow your rule, if I thought a reviewer was honest and hand similar opinion as mine I would read and follow. The good old days of audio. Another great video by you of course sir. 🙏
Thank you for understanding my point of view. I didn't mention any TH-cam reviewer because I haven't watch enough to know what words and phrases they use. Beside my own products for fact check. I don't remember I have watched any audio product review on TH-cam. I will take your words about them. Punches well about price point? 😆😁😄 I wonder how many free equipment they received for saying that. Just so happen, someone sent me this article this morning.

@@angela-gilbertWow very interesting, Thanks 👍
Yes...very good advice
I hope one day you might be able to check out Potato-Fi reviews. She's a little different in the presentation of her content and it's refreshing at least.
@@jctai100 Is she on TH-cam?
@@angela-gilbert Yes she is! just starting out, sort of...
@@jctai100 Thanks, I will do a search of her on TH-cam later. If she needs someone with out of the box crazy thinking feel free to ask her to contact me. May be two out of the box thinkers can stir the pot hard enough to spill over the stew. That would be funny. 😉🤪
It's a really good thing I am not a reviewer ... and I never want to be included in the same category.
... I've wanted to move away from trying to sound like and advertising agent ..and more like I am telling my friends about my experiences.
@@psyphonyxaudio There is nothing wrong to be a equipment reviewer. Taking free stuff for good review is another story. We need those people as as advertising agents and salesmen. All of those work has merit. Everyone is entitled to their opinions. How the viewers take the opinion an understand opinions are not facts is up to the viewers to decide.
Great advice.
Thanks.

Hey we were born the same year 69 , but you’ve got more hair than I do . 😂
Great topic .
@@coolruler8856 I let my hair grew for three years. May do some trimming later this year but not cutting them short.
@@angela-gilbert I don’t miss trips to the Barber anymore ,it’s not as personal as it used be . They treat you like Cattle in & out .
@@coolruler8856 More like sheep. Cattle don't grow that much hair. I have been at a barber shop once in my entire life. Been at a hair salon for a couple of years. That was ok. My hair stylish actually discussed with me before doing anything. Then covid lock down and I was done with most of my outing. Much happier to stay in my workshop to build toys. No point going out anymore. The rest of my life, either my parents gave me the cut hair, or I did it myself or have a friend do it. Three years since I have cut my hair, I don't miss cutting it. I can probably do without for another year.

:56 Gerard Rejskind of UHF mag passed away December 2023; the website and magazine appears to be in limbo
Thanks for telling me. I didn't know that when I made the video. Saw him last in March 2023 at the Montreal Audiofest.
This is sad to hear, I have Many old UHF mags at home.
@@davelistenstohifi Everyone must go when the time comes. I am hearing more and more well known figure in audio passing away one by one. I must be getting old myself. 😆😝 We can share more of this when we meet in the fall. Assuming you are still planning to come to Toronto.
It is so hard to tell what is true and false. Even when you look up the facts, the answers are false.
@@2Blitzkrieg Isn't that the true. There is no facts any more. It is all a whole bunch of opinions from different point of views. Sometime, in today social media, simply a lot of messy word salad.
“Giant Killer” annoys me every time I see it in a TH-cam title
@@MrBonger88 Just seen someone said punch above their prices point a few minutes ago on FB. 🤣🤩 You may want to watch and hear enough of those terms to build up some immunity and it doesn't annoy you anymore.
@@angela-gilbert I think I’ve gone in the opposite direction lol. It never used to bother me at all. I must have experienced Giant Killer overload at some point hahah

Born in 69? What do you think of the famous Hood 1969 topology?
@@MasterofPlay7 I was born in 69 over on the opposite side of the planet call Hong Kong. I don't know much about the Hood topology until I looke it up. Very simple straight forward design. Single gain stage with a single rail power supply. I always wonder we have been enough 10 watts of power back then. Why do we need hundreds and thousands of watt today?
@@angela-gilbertthank you for the response! The 1969 topology is popular among the diy community due to the simple design. I was shocked at what class a 10w can do, putting out more base than 80w class ab amp
