Thank you for sharing your travels, didn't realize Turkey is so fascinating and so many tourists! Thanks and enjoy the rest of your Winter there. You've convinced me to travel/sail there one day when we do the med. Sending greetings from South Africa! Dreaming one day to sail the med.
What a great marina that is! Puts many european ones to shame. I never really met any Turks in ukers and must say, living down here there are many. They have a special relationship with the Aussies, Gallipoli means so much to them both in a way it doesn`t for us. Great people they are, friendly, great sense of humour and great craic. You`re going to enjoy your winter up there! Fair winds xx
Welcome to Turkey. I hope you enjoy your stay in Çeşme and create opportunities to visit some more places around İzmir. Looking forward for your nice videos.
Thank you , once again a wonderful mix of content between boat life/work and leisure/pleasure/ cultural exploration. I look forward to each new episode.
Hi Steve, You were very, very lucky that the CO alarm went off! Without it maybe we would have witnessed the last episode of Sailing Fair Isle! Your detector is correct installed near the ceiling close to the engine room. However if the door to your cabin is closed and the CO gasses would have penetrated the cabin thru the floorpanels you wouldnt have been so lucky! Please install a CO detector on bed level, so we can enjoy many more TH-cam episodes 🙂
Yes you're right and on closer inspection it had been leaking fumes for some time. There are patches of soot deposits in places in the bilge. Weird that the white insulation sleeve showed no sign of discolouration. The exhaust run is too long really, but thats just a fact of life with a centre cockpit boat. I think it was the root of the problem with the generator too. I think we will have a little follow up in the next episode to try and highlight this as there must be other boats with this issue & it's hard to detect. Difficult knowing how to pitch it as we try to stay away from 'we almost died' type headlines but you're right & maybe we should highlight this more?

I see from your latest your getting on too. You will certainly get your lithium done before us, it looks like a sail to Kos to pick ours up as it was costing an extra €1,000 to have them delivered in Turkey!

Eliminating CO has been a mission of ours. We have taken out any combustion sources from the cabin and replaced everything with electric. Obviously it's far from perfect as generating enough power to run electric heating is an issue that we are working on still. At the moment we are hooked up to (unmetered) shore power. I like the problem solving but my wife must wonder why I spend so much time with my head in my hands.
Yes heating a boat with electric is not possible on the hook if you're anywhere but the tropics! Sadly the choices at the moment are get cold, or use some sort of carbon based fuel for heating. I guess we'll just have to be careful (or cold!)
Thank you for sharing yet another wonderful episode. Just wondering if you will pop in to see the Kraken Team and give us your view on their boat building/cruising philosophy? Don’t think they are far from you.

Hi Judy and Steve, thanks for sharing the experience with the AGM batteries. Any idea why they were bubbling up? It was also useful to see the demo of the Ventura water maker system. Fresh water availability is a constant anguish for mariners preferring to anchor “off the beaten track “ :-)
Yes it was sulfation. The crystals build up and eventually short them out. AGM's like a full charge often and a good dose of current, they can easily take more than 1C with for mine would be 180Amps. Well they rarely got over 90 amps, mostly 40-50 and I think the voltage drop in the long cabling needed to get to them fooled the system into going into float too early for these batteries.
We have the Ventura and it has given us trouble free usage since 2012, our unit only delivers 7 gals/hr which suits us as we are quite frugal with water usage. Have they increased the water output of the new models?
No that is the expected rate 7 gallons / 31 Litres. They work at contstant pressure as I'm sure you know so if fitted properly with a forward facing scoop and short run from the inlet seacock to the pump with a good sized pipe will deliver the rated supply consistently. Many others claim good figures but rarely if ever produce them in real life.
Hi, can I ask why you have the CO2 alarm up high? CO2 is heavier than air so concentrates in the bilges. By the time it gets up to your alarm I would think the amount of CO2 would be quite high.
It seems you’ve got yourself slightly confused. We are not talking about carbon dioxide (CO2) here, which is the fifth most common gas in the world and most of what you breath out. The gas of concern is carbon monoxide (CO) which is deadly and can come from burning fossil fuels. CO is lighter than air which is why you have the detector high.
