We missed you by a couple of weeks as you went through our 'playground'. And boy was it hot. And there are still many near empty bays to avoid the charterers. Did you get into Nidri Marine? It is amazing. Went in there last week looking to replace a missing pin from the guardrail. Have you got one of these?? 'Aha - follow me' she said. Will be doing Kalamata to Athens next month, and will again be a few weeks behind you. We are winter based in Vliho, and it looks like you may have dropped into 'Elenas'?? Love your channel ofcourse. We learn so much about sailing/maintenance projects, and ofcourse the places. Montenegro/Kotor is now firmly on the plan. Keep it up. We love it.
Agreed, Greece it's my favourite country. Went to Corfu a few times when I was younger, and had the chance to tour the Peloponnesus by car. I miss my morning "bougatsa", and my late evening Mythos beer.
I will be there in 2 weeks on Rockhopper. She goes back in on 23rd in Preveza. We sailed to Athens (the long way) a couple of years ago and came back through the Corinth which meant we could go and consult the oracle, which is a MUST if you find yourself in the sea of Corinth. The bridge is amazing too Have fun.
Entering Greece, cue the bouzouki...Opa! (Apologies to my Greek friends) Clever how Montenegro incentivizes leaving with really cheap petrol. The country sure looks like paradise to me.
Hi Guys, It was great to come across you in Ithaca. I have lifted out in Ionion marine and am back in Ireland. Thanks for transporting me back a few weeks. Wishing you fair winds down the Peloponnesus. It can be rolley. Looking forward to your videos. Simos beach on the south of Elafonisos is a lovely place to wait for good winds for going north. Stay safe, take care and safe passage. Niall
All I can say is WOW! so many many memories of a flottila with seven seas out of Gouvia in early 1980s. I can still taste the retsina and remember the vicar falling off the table. "Bless you my friends!!"
Great sneak peek of Montenegro….we’ll likely be there next Spring to crew for a friend if we don’t find our own boat by then (looks like Luigi changed his mind 😔). Thanks for sharing guys 👍🏻
I believe that super yacht you mentioned is Octopus and belongs to Microsoft joint founder, Paul Allen. Love your vlogs guys, not quite sure I believed the turtle story 🤪p.s. You must have heard the news about the fires. Not sure I'd want to be up near Athens at the moment with all that smoke ion the air. Just a thought...
Great as always. Cracking 360 shots. We have drone footage of you at anchor in Preveza. We were going to bring it over on a stick but you escaped! 😁However, look carefully in last weeks video and you are there incognito. 😎Sail Safe Guys, Ant, Cid & the pooch crew.
You, Impavidus and feel the Breeze have all anchored in the same spot within a few days off Corfu. Would have been nice to say hi and hope to see you further south in a few weeks.
I think it's a little confusing, the ship from min 17:11 was a ship with actors claiming to be pirates, the real pirates were in the ship from min 17:46 :)))
Hi Guy's in the video you mentioned sailing round the bottom of Greece and up to Athens. Is the Corinth canal finally closed or is there another reason? Great video, sorry about the heat, but it could be worse Cyprus is 45C. Safe travels.
Watching your opening sequence with the drone circling Fairisle reminds me of scenes in O'Brians Aubrey / Maturin series when Jack is being rowed around 'Surprise' so that he might check the trim. Would you be a little down at the head!
Well spotted. With all chain rode on both bower anchors now she’s getting that way. Also we’ve been anchoring in very deep water so have had all the chain out on occasions, this means when it goes back it’s all in the forward chain locker. I will have to manually pull some down to the lower chain locker through the hawse pipe which brings it further aft
Thanks so much for your prompt reply. This whole TL issue in Greece is extremely controversial as it appears that the rule is if your British registered boat was in the EU on changeover, no need for a TL. I have heard of some hefty fines (Euro 2000) for not having one. I think Kalamata where I see you are at the moment was one of the ports "hot on TL's
Well we actually went to the port authority to get the TL stamped today, they say you’re supposed to in any port you stay in, this is the first time we have tried but they were closed!
They do not take the getting stamped at every port seriously. In fact when I tried at PortoCelli the guy had the door locked and was upset I had disturbed him for this. Never have since.
If you mean not getting caught for VAT in another country then it’s a matter of not staying more than 18 months although most countries do not implement this ‘rule’. My father for instance had his boat in Mallorca for 35 years without paying VAT again. The other problem post Brexit is the UK will charge VAT again if we take Fair Isle back , but that’s easily solved, we won’t!
Thanks for such amazing episodes. Could I ask if when checking into Greece on your British registered Fair Isle did you had to apply for and obtain a Greek Transit Log?
Yes you have to have a transit log. The rule should be that you get an unlimited stay log if your boat was in Europe in changeover, but we were only offered an 18 month log. Okay for us as we’re not staying
A yankee is a high clewed foresail, they are common of cutter rigged boats. I'm surprised it's not referred to by that name in Canada, I think it is everywhere else in the world
So the UK registered boats that have to return or pay VAT again, is that because theyve been in EU waters for too long and have to pay VAT to the EU or to the UK? Surely registering the boat under a flag of convenience would be cheaper than paying £10k to ship it back?
Yes I believe it’s if you are away for 3 years that when you return to the UK you have to pay VAT again even if it’s VAT paid. Apparently this rule has always been there but never implemented, after Brexit the revenue decided it must now be implemented, no idea why. A flag of convenience certainly seems to work for super yachts, a lot at Maltese but I’m not sure if that’s viable for ordinary yachts as I never see it done

Good question. The ministry of tourism has passed our request for a refund to the police after confirming we did pay all the required taxes and did nothing wrong. We have yet to hear back from the police.

"it looks a bit like England...." - either you've been away too long, or out in the mid-day sun :-)
Ha! yes maybe you're right
Yup, just like England, but warmer ;)
Ahhh the Ionian... Busy even in a quiet year. Fair winds guys.
It's quieter further down
I'd be taking my time thur Greece corfu is wonderful happy sailing

We still haven't had a proper turtle sighting that I can film, little blighters don't stay up for long!

Yes the Corinth canal had been closed due to a land slide since February. It won’t open until late next year at the earliest

Just curious: Greece is in EU, would it have been easier for the paperwork if UK was still in EU?
Yes it would. We wouldn’t have to check in and the tax can be paid online. Easy!
Is there any reason you missed Albania? We will be moving a boat from Lefkada in about 2 weeks. If we see you we will give you a wave.
Just bad timing, Covid restrictions meant you couldn’t go to Greece after Albania, it’s okay to do it now though
@@svfairisle I asked the question before I got to your reason. Silly me. I will watch it all before I ask next time!

Are the car rentals on the ground reasonable? A quick online search was quite disheartening.
It is not cheap as it was in Spain for instance. I have excess insurance of my own or it would have been more. We paid E30 per day
Why do you call the Genoa a “Yankee”? In Canada where I sail the name is never heard.
A yankee is a high clewed foresail, they are common of cutter rigged boats. I'm surprised it's not referred to by that name in Canada, I think it is everywhere else in the world
