I think apo island marine sanctuary is one of the first in the country assisted and funded by USA in cooperation with marine lab of Silliman University which is an American university. Thanks to USA who intruduce us the marine preservation and conservations.

Once I brought about a hundred HS students for summer camp in Dumaguete. The experience my students loved the most was our stay at Apo Island. A local ranger taught us where to dive, where to pass - you can't just walk into the water from the beach because one might damage the corals, how corals are protected, etc...Initially, my students were asking me why we came to Apo Island since there is no white beach there. Told them were not here for the beach. When we finally went snorkeling, well let us just say all of us did not notice time passing by. We did not notice that we have been floating for 3-4 hours! We even forgot to eat lunch. The corals and the fishes were so beautiful! The explosion of colors by those lovely corals and beautiful variety of fishes are unforgettable! Apo Island will forever be itched in our minds, my HS students said, as the day we fell in love with the ocean, with mother nature.

My husband was a Biology student in Silliman University and he was part of the conservation efforts of saving and reviving the corals around Apo Island. He became teary eyed upon seeing the coral reefs healthy and thriving! Beautiful camera shots n he told me that the current is very strong n dangerous. In fact as far as he can remember, 5 divers lost their lives there including a Japanese diver. He also told me that there is a season every year that hammer head sharks congregate their in the hundreds around Apo Island. Anyway thank u again n be safe all of you.

Finn, I live in Chicago, me and 4 brothers for 30+ years worked in construction. When you showed the skyline shot of the city from the east side of the museum ,you showed my family's life work !! the 5 of us were on different projects when the Shedd put in the coral reef exhibit which took years just for the super structure (floors, walls , columns) . I met, know, and worked with virtually everyone who's blood, sweat, put this facility in place .!! Save your Pesos and take a different flight route the next time you travel to Iceland !! Come see it for yourself, do some freshwater diving exploring the100's shipwrecks in the great lakes. I suggest late August for Lake Superior where the water is so cold, wood will not rot, to early September for lake Michigan water temp around 65 degrees !Also the Shedd is only 1 of 5 world class Museums (I suggest the Art museum I worked on their new section ) I hope to see you and Sherlyn some day here in the U.S.A. or the Philippines !!! I grew up in Chicago and visited the Shedd 100s of times...Chicago has lots of attachments to the Philippines...like the Filipino association that was next to friend of mine gas service station at corner of Clark and Irving Park Streets not to far from the Chicago baseball team the Chicago Cubs, there is also a very large Filipino Restaurant north of City of Chicago... I live now in Central Florida and I have visited the Philippines. Keep it up guys...
