None of your recipes, John, have failed to turn out scrumptious, but Lachlan most definitely convinced me this one is a must for tonight’s dessert. Hubby and daughter brought in a giant bowl of strawberries from the backyard…our first BIG harvest this season. Wish me luck!

I definitely feel more confident trying this recipe than i did when i first baked her a cake like 10 or so years ago. One thing i have definitely learned for sure, though, is assemble the strawberry shortcake at her house when its time to be served. Last time i assembled everything at my apartment and then traveled over an hour to get to my mom's place 🙈😅. It was melted and messy by the time i arrived. These look delicious, so I'm really looking forward to trying this recipe 😍.
I was in my early twenties when I tried the first time, and my mom was sweet. Even though the cake was a mess, she appreciated the gesture, and she said she actually enjoyed the type of cake. Some places give you strawberry shortcake with a regular cake base or spongecake base, and my mom prefers the biscuit base. I agree with her and prefer the biscuit base as well. When I worked at Cracker Barrel, that's how we served our strawberry shortcakes. Any cake is good for me, though. I just appreciate all of the sweets 😋

For the best shortcake, the most of the berries should be macerated with tons of sugar to bring out their juices. The juices absorb into the biscuits and it is sooo good. Save a few sliced berries for garnish but mash up the rest with sugar and let them sit for a few hours.

I made this as my final project for home economics class in high school. It was beautiful, but I used table spoons instead of teaspoons for the salt so it tasted awful. I would love to revisit this using your recipe

As someone with arthritis, I have found using a metal bench scraper to cut cold butter works a bit easier for my hands.

I don't buy buttermilk anymore, I make it myself: measure out regular milk and add a splash of vinegar to it. After it curdles, you've got buttermilk.
Or a little bit lemon juice….
My Mom always did that for waffles.

Thank you all for the help. I tend to waste buttermilk when I buy it only for baking, but I always keep milk in my fridge. It's lactose free milk, though, and 2% 🤔
@@thedreamer215 That's why I stopped buying buttermilk. I'd use a cup and the rest would go bad. I'm not sure if the vinegar technique will work in your situation, but give it a try. If the milk curdles a few minutes after adding the vinegar, it's probably a go!

We also use double cream yogurt instead of the buttermilk. Gives a slightly tart taste 👌

Hello! I love your channel! It’s almost Mother’s Day and I wanted to make something special for my mom! This strawberry shortcake will be perfect because she loves strawberries but I wanted to make a pasta dish for her as well! I asked her what kind of pasta dishes she likes and she said, “spaghetti with a red/tomato sauce!” I asked her, “With meatballs?” She said she likes it with mushrooms instead… I was looking through your channel but couldn’t find a video. I'd like any more info you could give about forming these in advance, freezing, and then baking. *Should they go straight from the freezer bag to the oven or should they rest a little before baking? *Apparently you don't adjust the cooking temp. Is 2-3 minutes more for time about right? *Is there any chance this will affect the baking powder & baking soda? Thanks.
