Hi..here's what they dont teach you. Where i come from loading and unloading ships alot of the work is as fast as the equipment will go. If you swing a crane fast and go from point a to point b by just winging or slewing then when you get to point b the load/ counterweight will be swinging in a circular motion. So to eliminate that you boom up or down as you swing the load. Once you've mastered that there is no circular motion period but a load that has zero sway and easy to control. For me nothing is more fun than operating a fast smooth crane with a fast response !😀

Man this made so much sense. Ive failed my practical for crawler multiple times due to no controlling the load. I re-test thks Friday and this just gave me confidence. Thank you

Thanks for the tip. Been doing mobile crane training at work and looking for tips for swinging and controlling the load.

Or erecting iron with some good ole boys that are at the top of their game and good on the radio.when a operator has the confidence to go fast where he can't see .everybody knows there's a dam good raido man up top

i'm new at operating a overhead crane, I have done the same technique and it works all the time, you have to gradually increase the speed depending on the distance and the load, taking off fast is going to cause the load to slack behind.

Nice video :) Depends on the crane trolley cranes and others have different speeds but in theory is all there, fallow your load and if on top of it there is no way it will swing to the sides as gravity aligns the load with the top... but if you align it yourself then by by swing and faster smoother operations. remember as the loads get rigged the bigger the angle the more force there is on each sling is call uniform load method, never pick up a load outside the crane reach as this can overturn the crane, or if side ways to the jib can snap the sheave sides as sheaves are designed for horizontal loads bearing forces... vertical forces only :) and if not sure as the pros there is no one cooler then crane op and riger/slinger signaler most are professional and partial and will help wen and if possible! no arm to ask the community

Why is it always easier to catch on the boom up?

It's actually all very simple. I would intentionally get the ball in a big rolling circle to show how simple it is to stop in to moves.

Bottom line the crane test are too hard because they don't give enough time in the field or in the class

The not easy but with practice, you can achieve passing score. Forget about the time time comes with skill.

No it's not like that on a job setting steel or trusses you put it in getter done mode

Try running slow like that when your servicing 5 different trades at the same time. Better learn every action has a reaction.

Ray Isaac where ever you point your boom IS where the ball is going to go. My Dad always told me to push the load

With just the ball u can with a load it depends what the load is

I've set steel I-beams and trusses legally at 20 mph but anything beyond that I won't even run the boom out you take chance of hurting someone or the crew and that's not worth it to me!
