    1.Interesting thing to note, Vampire Takeover shows the Vampire Sorcerer converting a modern landscape into that of the Vampire Kingdom (hence it summoning the card directly from the deck)
    Implying that the Vampire Sorcerer and all the members of the new wave of support , lead by their version of Dracula the Vampire Vojvode, are survivors of the genocide and are executing their revenge by taking back what humanity stole. Becoming everything they were feared for in the first place.
    So , in a way, Camula got her wish, she just didn't live long enough to see it.
    2. Overall, Vampires might just be one of my favorite archetypes in the game. Not just because of the Castlevania inspired designs and lore, but also because its just so rare for an archetype to COMPLETELY change course and be rebranded the way this one has.
    Going from an inneficient and slow "bleeding" effect that helps your opponent more then anything else nowadays, to one focused on losing and gaining LP , reviving themselves and each other ,as well as potentially devastating Monster snatching.
    You gotta give Konami credit, they did a good job reviving a decade old archetype.

  • @DrunkManSquakin666

    It is worth clarifying that Vampire Lord came out long before the structure deck. It was a highly sought after monster during the DM era, because control decks loved to use his effect to deny one's opponent access to their spell cards. Most of which were likely limited.

    • @RetrospectiveChannel
      @RetrospectiveChannel ปีที่แล้ว

      That's not entirely correct because sending spell cards in the graveyard meant that the opponent can use "Magician of Faith" to recover them and sending Monsters would just fuel their chaos engine. Most often then not you would call traps or monsters (since you could use "Book of Life" to revive Zombie types).

    • @DrunkManSquakin666
      @DrunkManSquakin666 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@RetrospectiveChannel Yes and no. That can be a legitimate concern, sure, but Magician of Faith was actually quite slow and not used as often as a result at the height of Chaos. You tended to see three D.D.s and Airknight, plus maybe one or two others odds and ends at the time. White Magical Hat was quite popular, as were Asura Priest and Shining Angel.
      Not to say Magician of Faith was entirely absent from the meta, but she certainly was not as prominent as she was before and... maybe after. At the time, she was less of a threat, especially with hand control being a factor on top of the sheer speed of the game at the time. Magical Scientist OTK was a thing as well... and more powerful. And Chaos Control tended to end the game in four turns at most.
      Hell, my friend ran the deck, but specifically avoided using her because she was too slow.
      So, yeah, this depends on when we're talking. I admit that saying "DM Era" was too broad on my part. I am also not as familiar with what was run after the banhammer fell, because my friends stopped playing rather quickly in its wake and I was more or less forced to stop playing, myself, as a result.

    • @RetrospectiveChannel

      @@DrunkManSquakin666 I was thinking more in G.o.a.t and Reaper formats , funny thing is that Zombie decks use to run "Despair from the Dark" to combat Duo (since they can also summon it via "Call of the Mummy") as for Mof well Nobleman of crossout was a very popular counter to FLIP monsters (and in Reaper we had "Shield Crush").

      Of course, I'm not gonna be unrealistic and say they're viable in the modern meta, but if they get maybe another wave of decent support, they could be an alright rogue deck.
      Vampire Ghost is actually an insane value Normal Summon, it's a straight +1 that sets up further plays.
      The archetype has acces to *three* Normal Summons per turn:
      1. Regular NS
      2. Vampire Domain's extra NS for Vampires
      3. Ghost's GY quick effect to NS a Vampire.
      As well as Sorcerer's GY effect that lets you NS a Vampire without tributes.
      Voivode is also a Called By on legs (though he doesn't banish the card) that can recover itself.
      They have access to most of the generic Synchro options (Baronne, PEP, Chaos Ruler, etc.) as well as the rather new trap "Ghost Meets Girl: A Masterful Mayakashi Shiranui Saga" via the Mayakashi Link-3.
      This trap disables Special Summons from the hand, deck and extra deck for the rest of the turn for both players.

    There is another Xyz card that although isn't necessarily part of the archetype has way too much in common with Sheridan to ignore. Number 24:Dragulas the Vampiric Dragon could easily be the transformed state of Sheridan much like how Vampire Lord transforms into Genesis and how Vampires tend to have shapeshifting capabilities into demon and or dragon-like beings. Not only does it appear in front of a blood moon like other cards of the archetype, but it shares the blonde hair and the same color scheme as well as the glowing red eye. It also shares a similar revival effect as Vampire Bram. The fact that it isn't a zombie monster is the main issue. You also missed Vampire Baby, which shares the same monster stealing ability as the rest of the cards in the archetype.

    Honestly it's not that bad using Grace's effect. You want to go first, and when it comes to Fascinator or Sucker, you want a monster in the opponents grave. It also gives you information on what your opponent is playing, which is never a bad thing; and even if they don't have cards that work in the graveyard, they typically dump a handtrap...which is a win in my books. Though I also like to play a small Zombie world package in my vampire deck. So I get scourge and grace to become beatrice, send a necroworld banshee and doomking, and by the standby of my opponents first turn doomking is on the field, so even if the monster I put in their GY is something they can use, I have a negate for it on the field already. Even better if I can get voivode on the field as well and save doomking's effect for their normal or special summoned monsters.

      @@r3zaful Don't think so. Fascinator summons from GY regardless of type and *then* locks you into Zombies after doing so.
      But that wouldn't even matter, because they're assuming you're playing with Zombie World on the field.
      Cause... why wouldn't you? It's just a straight up bonus to Vampires since it doesn't affect them and fucks up a lot of type-reliant decks.
      Zombie World is also the reason why Vampire Voivode is lvl 8 and The Zombie Vampire is a rank 8.

      It feels very incomplete. All of the old and middle introduced cards are ignored, (very little level 6, etc solid support) and there is no other focus on the Belmont card, if he's just a 1600 anti-DARK battler and nothing more, he'd have no chance against them, no items or whip or abilities or anything. There's very little castle references despite Konami owning Castlevania and where is Alucard? How about a retrain if Genesis?

    Its possible that, in the same vain as Legacy of Kain's Vampires, these Vampires at some point gained the ablity to evolve and trade certain features and abilities for various new ones.
    Vampire Sucker is batlike and has pinkish-red skin, making her obviously inhuman, but she is among the few that can survive in broad daylight

    While not stated in this video, Vampire Lord, the archetype's original Dracula stand-in seems to reference the Dark Lord's various One-Winged Angel forms by his transformation into Vampire Genesis. Vampire Genesis also apparently references how vampires in certain stories can, either through age or casting away their remaining humanity, enter stronger forms.
    Funny enough, Vampire Lord and Vampire Hunter can start a nigh-infinite loop with each other, as Hunter's destruction effect can trigger Lord's effect resurrection from destruction by card effect.
    Also funny enough, the Belmonts were evidently intended to be descendents of Dracula. Which makes Vampire Hunter's Dark Attribute even more hilarious in hindsight (especially given how Sonia was retconned out of the Castlevania timeline).

    "Zombie" is one of my favourite monster types. I also like the Vampire" archetype but I play a somewhat generic zombie deck instead. However, Vampire Sucker is one of my favourite cards in my zombie deck. Usually I use Doomking Balerdroch as link material since it is summoned back to my field during the next standby phase (if there is a field spell on the field, usually that would be my Zombie World) and this special summon triggers the effect of Vampire Sucker which lets me draw a card. Furthermore that effect of vampire sucker also triggers the effect of Doomking Balerdroch, which allows me to banish one monster on the field or GY (or to negate the previous effect).
    Vampire Sucker was also my "win condition" (more or less) against a Final Countdown / Crooked Cook deck in Master Duel.
    I was able to set up my board but couldn't really do anything because of the cook.
    Then my opponent made one mistake: He send a monster to the graveyard because of the hand size limit.
    I used Vampire suckers effect together with Zombie World on the field in order to summon that monster onto my opponents field. Since there was another card on the field, Crooked Cook was no longer unaffected by other cards' effects. My opponent tried to use crooked cooks effect to get rid of that monster but I used Balerdroch to negate that effect.
    Then I used Vampire Suckers other effect together with the effect of my Red - Eyes Zombie Dragon. This allowed me to use my opponents Crooked Cook as tribute fodder for my Red - Eyes Zombie Dragon. I was able to win the duel a few turns later (think it was turn 18/20 after Final Countdown was activated or something like that).
    That victory made me really happy. Crooked Cook already was a well - known nuisance back then, so winning against that deck with my somewhat casual one was awesome! However, without Vampire Sucker (as well as Zombie World, Red Eyes Zombie Dragon and a mistake made by my opponent), I wouldn't have been able to do that. :-)

    • @dancostello4872
      @dancostello4872 ปีที่แล้ว

      The combination of Zombie World & Vampire Sucker's lingering effect to basically turn any high level Zombie in your hand into a Kaiju has saved me _so_ many times - it literally outs anything that isn't unaffected altogether, and because it doesn't activate your opponent can't respond to it unless they proactively negate it with something before/at the start of your MP1 like Effect Veiler & Infinite Impermanence.
      To out any Towers monsters you should consider running Underworld Goddess if you have the Extra Deck space, especially given how easily Vampires can spam the board without xeno-locking you into Zombies.

    Vampire Fascinator luring other Vampires is, in all likelihood, a reference to Mina Harker from the Dracula novel.
    She was bitten by Dracula, but not fully turned, so she is able to sense where he is, and he can sense her location as well. Unlike other spawn, however, she is not forced to obey his commands, and thus she is able to lure Dracula into a trap

    While originally the Vampire Archetype's theme would be to deplete your opponent's resources by milling cards from their deck, the modern Vampires are centered around swarming the field and stealing your opponent's monsters from the field or graveyard for the purpose of summoning their Vampire XYZ monsters.
    Common themes within the archetypes include the need to tribute summon in order to use their strongest effects, as well as paying Life Points or sending a Vampire Card from the field or hand to search cards from the deck.
    To work around their short-comings, many cards offer effects that allow you to more easily tribute summon or even outright normal summon the higher-level Vampire Monsters. Additionally, a lot of Spell/ Trap cards allow you to replenish Life Points.
    While the Vampire Link Monsters are centered around interacting with your opponent's graveyard, the Vampire XYZ monsters have a common gimmick of allowing you to use monsters you stole from your opponent to summon them regardless of their level.

It has everything you want in an archetype, including multiple boss monsters, floaters, searchers, and multiple ways to flood the field either with more of your own monsters (Ghost, Domain, Awakening) or your opponent's, including Red Baron's ability to swap monsters. I like to run 1 of Red Baron, Shadow Vampire and Vamp because they each have a unique tech that is useful in various situations. You can also run Mausoleum along with Domain to add some flexibility with summoning. Ghost was such a useful card to add because of its versatility and ability to do multiple things in one card. Run this deck with Zombie World, Doomking and other usefull Zombie tech side deck options....and it's a decent Rogue deck only, unfortunately.
