      @@BenTheRules sounds like a totally native speaker that has forgotten the language and relearnt it. So thats a great effort, and I would guess he learnt it from a Bosnian native. Pronunciations are very Bosnian. Would love to know his ethnicity. Not balkan for sure. Looks like so many Hungarians I know. But not many Hungarians would take an interest in our language to such a degree.

      If I recall correctly, his girlfriend is from Sarajevo. I think he also said he's been to Bosnia many times before.

      There is an electric trolley bus in Sarajevo whose destination sign is permanently stuck on "Jonction". There is a contest to find out where the hell in Europe Jonction is located. Let us know if it's in Sweden. If it is, that you for the trolley bus.

    Both of my parents worked for the railroad before the war and would have one free ride a year for the family. We travelled to Valencia, Spain to see family couple of times during my childhood and all with the train. During the war my mom worked in an office in Zenica at that station. Volim Zenicu, ali ne miris Željezare😅

    Hello Ben. Zeljeznicka stanica was built in jugoslavia komunist Tito’s era. And you are right all we have in Bosnia is built in that era. Like your videos

    I have just realised where the accent sounds from. So, especially when you don't say grammar correctly, you sound as if you were from Macedonia. (It doesn't sound western at all.) Especially the talk with strawberry lady gave me that feeling.

    Thank GOD pijaca is still a primary source of fruits and vegetables. they’re locally produced (often), supporting local farmers and the taste is always better. One day when we enter EU we will be forced to submit to corporate food overlords and Pijaca will be destroyed like it is in Croatia.

      Interesting. I was going to say that hopefully they can still survive, like in Italy for example it seems like the open markets are still doing well. I’m not there every day though, so I don’t know

    Ben! I know its frustrsting but nit having certain produce is a good thing! In bosnia a lot of things are seasonal meaning it’s better for the environment and you’re likely eating better/tastier things. Not sure when you went to the Zenica market but id think even in deep winter it’ll be harder to find strawberries

    for your info 40KM is daily wage in country ,now you know how is difficult to live in Bosnia even worst if you have to pay the rent thats way people moving to other countries

    They charged you more for most of everything when realized you were stranger. That's why I never buy if no price shown. I bought same paprike for 3 marks

      i only paid 1 mark for the 2 paprike, 1 mark for garlic. the strawberries were 5 marks, the ajvar was 10, so i don't think they over charged. and even if they did, I'm happy to help them out a bit

    Ben Bosnians don't eat much of a produce during the winter times, they eat more of suho meso, stellja, sudzuka, kavurma etc. lol

    Where do the market sellers source those strawberries at this time of year? Im not convinced they grow them in Bosnia.

      No idea. This video was filmed in late March, too. Maybe a greenhouse or similar setup? I’m not an expert on agriculture… all I know is at the time there were no strawberries in the supermarkets, only at the pijacas

      Sellers have connections with local importers who import large quantities from number of countries. Even small grocery shops have them. It all depends how much someone is good businessman and how good are his importers... They may combine local or self grown with imported. The less variety stand has, makes it more probable they grow everything themselves. It's quite common across ex-Yu area from what I realised.

      Sto po sto amerikanac! My family’s been in the US for over a hundred years, but I’ve learned the language over the last couple years, starting out with friends from my hometown, and recently because I’ve lived and traveled in the region

    At some point you should go to Serbia. Not just to Kosovo and Sandjak. You even went very nearby beautiful places like Kopaonik, Zlatibor, UNESCO world heritage sites like Studenica and Zica monasteries but seemed to prefer staying in Muslim areas, how come? Vojvodina is also unbelievable with towns like Subotica, Sremski Karlovci, Vrsac, Sombor, Fruska Gora too!

      I hear you, I have plans to explore more of Serbia, don’t worry. Twice I wanted to go to Vojvodina but I couldn’t because of problems I had while traveling. I did make it to Niš, Priboj and Belgrade though (I didn’t film in Belgrade but I really liked the city). I ended up spending a few months in Sarajevo which is why I’ve made so much content in Bosnia lately
