  • Can a trashed table be saved with wallpaper?
    Have you ever seen a coffee table that was more trashed than this one? Was Dani able to save it from the landfill with just some wallpaper and paint? And can she make money on something that is obviously flat pack furniture made with MDF?
    Join Dani and Sherry as they answer these questions during this quick furniture flip!
    ***** 5/15/22 - UPDATE - We sold our green wallpapered table today! It was listed for 31 days and sold for $150. The costs for paint and other supplies for this piece = $45 so our net profit was $105. We knew from past experiences that coffee tables do not sell for much in our area so did not expect much profit. We were happy to save this table from the landfill and to find it a new home.

    I love using wallpaper on inexpensive pieces of furniture to jazz it up. Yes, you have to use some kind of caulking or framing because no matter how accurate you are, you still get jagged edges with the wallpaper, and the caulking or framing hides that beautifully. Great job on this piece! It’s very pretty, and it’s on trend.

      Thoughts to boost your confidence on your work's value:
      Your "cost" should include your labor and your asking price should reflect the total value, which includes the "Art and Design" of your piece.
      Don't be afraid to Create higher end pieces and don't be afraid to charge for their corresponding value.
      I encourage you to speak with some of the folks here on TH-cam that have established "pricing formula's".
      One that comes to mind is:
      " Brushed by Brandy"
      ▶ Just for the Enjoyment:
      One of my favorite, "Artists of the Creative Crafts" is a guy in Britain: "Johnathon Marc Mendes", take a look at his video list and pick one that interests you. You will enjoy his works and he will inspire your already creative mind with some great ideas. I really like his Decoupage and Painted Furniture.
      Those really inspire me, I'm an Artist, (oil on canvas) predominantly, thus I find his technique most appealing to my creative desires.

    Really like the wallpaper usage on this piece. Gives it the touch of interest it needed to make it a desirable addition to someones home. Got to admit, I was not fond of the green color, but realize it is a matter of personal choice. Another thing that I think would add more to it would have been an antiquing gel color to the raised design to make it stand out more, (just a subtle touch). Over all, it was a job very well done on a low quality item...you brought it up several notches.

    Great job. But, in my opinion, it's better to put something on the countertop. To avoid damage to the paint and contamination of the surface, how do you look at it?

    • @secondchanceohana
      @secondchanceohana  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      👋Yes, we certainly agree! We use a paint that has a top coat and then add more layers of top coat (polyurethane) for protection but adding a cloth or felt under heavy objects will certainly help protect the surface even more! Thanks for watching and for your comment!

    What a brilliant idea to use wallpaper to transform this piece and hide a bunch of boo boos. Love the color.

    This is very nice and the wallpaper idea is really nifty - I wonder whether using a different colour - or maybe just something like a silver fleck light coat - on the wallpaper sections would have looed good?

    • @secondchanceohana
      @secondchanceohana  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank Luigi! I bet that would have looked good. We did another piece with different paper that we painted black and then went over the raised areas with gold. It turned out really good but it took a lot of time. 😊

    • @luigifabio77
      @luigifabio77 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@secondchanceohana yeah, I saw your other video later in the day and realised I wasn't being that original after all.
      I wonder if playing with a hard roller would allow you to obtain the same effect 'only on the raised part' with a lot less work? It would probably be a slight amount of paint which would be just right for many applications.
      Just thinking out loud, mind.

    That turned out nicely. Since that paint was so expensive relative to how much you used on a cheap piece of furniture I think that for next time, get a less expensive paint color matched at the hardware store for the inside of the piece. Save the nice stuff for the exterior. I love the color.

    Just a quick question… I don’t have a spray gun and I am wondering if using a brush will pill the paper off? Thank you

    • @secondchanceohana
      @secondchanceohana  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Marta! Thank you! The wallpaper we use is a thick, durable and paintable wall paper that holds up well to painting with a brush. We have done it that way a few times.

    • @secondchanceohana
      @secondchanceohana  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi 1959 Berre, thanks for your comment. You bring up a good point. We hope the wallpaper stands up to normal wear and tear for many years. It is very thick and heavy, caulked around all the edges and topcoated with 3 coats of polyurethane. It was also only applied to recessed areas. But even doing all of that, it may not be suitable for all homes where it could get damaged with heavy use or abuse. 😬

    You should try using an Adhesive Remover(goo gone) instead of the heat gun to remove stickers like those,

    • @secondchanceohana
      @secondchanceohana  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      😍 Thanks Susan! Yes, we do that sometimes, too. I'm not sure why we opted for the heat gun here but it got most of the adhesive off. 🤗
