The lion is one of the big cats in the Felidae family and a member of genus Panthera. It has been listed as Vulnerable on the IUCN Red List since 1996, as populations in African range countries declined by about 43% since the early 1990s. Lion populations are untenable outside designated protected areas. Although the cause of the decline is not fully understood, habitat loss and conflicts with humans are the greatest causes of concern. The West African lion population is listed as Critically Endangered since 2016.

The social structure of Lion prides is fascinating and elaborate. Virtually everything they do is geared towards future success and continuity of the species. The very fact the males only rule for 2-3 years before they move on or are killed is geared towards varying the gene pool. Incredible

That sounds nice and fluffy, but in reality lionesses will abandon their cubs if the lioness is close to starvation, she will safe herself and hope for a better next year with new cubs.
Also male lions will kill the cubs if theyre not their own and lionesses wont defend their cubs till death, when the lioness runs danger of being killed she will abandon the cubs to be killed by the male and than right after that mate with him to get new ones...
That phrase might sound nice in a fortune cookie, but as all fortune cookies it doesnt reflect reality.

Great documentary on Lions! I love all the great wild cats. When I observe my cat Vincent I witness thousands of years of nature's development. When he's in the backyard and he spots a squirrel he crouches down in the grass he begins to advance slowly always keeping his eyes on the prey. Now I'm cheering for the squirrel because Vincent's survival doesn't depend on this kill but I allow it to play out because this is Vincent's nature. Watching the great cats fight everyday to survive and observing our domestic cats are incredible. I wish there was a part 2 where we follow Milo to adulthood and see him head his on pride.

Lionesses are badasses! They are amazing Moms. I think this narrator was being overly dramatic about how the Mom was treating Milo. Please remember - the Mom just lost one of her cubs. That's tough emotionally. She may have been hesitant to get close to Milo becuse he may eventually share the same fate. The Mom did seem to push him away right after losing her other cub. However, she never stopped being a Mom to Milo. She fed him, she hid him when the pride went to hunt and always came back to get him. This was all prior to them crossing the river. Further, she never forgot about her baby during the river crossing or afterward. The narrator had to take some "creative liberties" I suppose 🤦‍♀️😂.
And I don't know how true it is that single cubs are abandoned by the pride. I'm sure it can happen; but a lot of times cubs run off on their own and/or not paying attention and get left behind by the pride. When the Pride decides to go, they usually don't wait to see if all cubs are accounted for. They just go. However, once the Moms realize a cub is lost, they are out calling and looking for them sometimes for days. Again, the narrator is taking some creative liberties to keep audiences engaged, I guess 🤷‍♀️.
However, I absolutely do not understand why at least one lioness does not stay with the babies when the pride is away hunting. I'm not suggesting that male lions stay behind because they are horrible babysitters🤦‍♀️. Only 20% of lion cubs survive and it's because they are left alone for long hours when the pride goes to hunt 🤷‍♀️ . All lion prides leave cubs alone to hunt in the lion documentaries that I've watched. Hyenas have an aunt/grandma stay behind with their cubs when they go and hunt. As a result, hyena cub survival rate is not this low 😢.

There's such intensity in their lives, and in their eyes... Their experience of the world is incredibly strong, they constantly have to fear death and their social bond are so

This came with a whole lotta adrenalin rush......Kept me on the edge of my seat but ended beautifully! And Milo is the cutest cub. So sad for the loss of Poppy.

I think it's good to be able to see the lives of wild animals on video like this.

17:30 so strange because when the dreamer was the only cub left, the entire pride doted on him. The Misfit befriended him and his mother mourned the Dreamer deeply
