  • The final step for the carbon fiber sword is to even out the finish with epoxy, sanding and lacquer. To display the finished piece I designed and 3d printed a mounting bracket.

    there is no way to shape carbon fiber to make cross-guard like this. I mean, except Lindy Design Lab :-)

    When you said you put the first epoxy coat on was that just resin or with hardener?

    Does the carbon sword strong or does it easy to break?

    Looks great, but man I hate that weatherstrip adhesive. All it wants to do is make strings that go everywhere. I like the pot of barges contact cement, I apply it with cheap paint brushes for detail work.

      Yup, would do it that way in hindsight.

    What kind of epoxy resin are you using? In your previous video, you also just used epoxy resin on the fiberglass mat, and just took the extra time to wet it out right?

    • @LindyDesignLab
      @LindyDesignLab  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ez Lam from ACP composites, longer working time version. Yes, it was a pain to wet out since the binder doesn't dissolve in epoxy but fine.

      @@LindyDesignLab thanks for the quick reply! I assume the longer working time helps too, instead of regular fiberglass resin that sets up so fast

    You said it isn't sharp, but I'm curious just how strong is a carbon fiber sword? Is it as tough as a wooden sword? Or would it fall to pieces with one good strong wack?

    • @LindyDesignLab
      @LindyDesignLab  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Depends on how solid the thing you need to wack. Better tactic is to stick them with the pointy end.

      @@LindyDesignLab I would agree. I think it would be cool to try and replicate Kirito's sword, The Elucidator from sword art online with carbon fiber. Since the swords basically black with a kind of shine to them. swordartonline.fandom.com/wiki/Elucidator
