    We have Styrofoam hive boxes. We drilled a whole the size of a cork and drilled a cork to fit over the spout, And also put a thin sheet which replaces asbestos in between machine and hive body. It works great, thanks for demonstrating the use of a wine bottle cork.

    Greg you would be shocked at the phoretic mite drop after dumping in a ton of powdered sugar between the frames. Not a fix but they do groom off a lot of mites. But mask and goggles brother. Ounce of prevention.

    Great idea about using wine corks. Have a question about Formic Pro. It looked like you just placed the pad in without taking the thin paper off it. Is that so? I have been removing the paper off one side and getting blasted by the Formic Acid smell. Craig / SML BEEs.

    • @NaturesImageFarmGregBurns
      @NaturesImageFarmGregBurns  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Craig! The wine cork is the fastest, easiest, cheapest way I know how to use OAV on plastic dials! The formic instructions state to remove the foil outer wrap but to leave the paper wrap on.

    We use formic since early 80s.. a sponge in a plastic bag with a 10cm × 1cm cut slit in the bag. And applied cold, liquid with a syringe.. that was kept in a freezer before. So why not put that pad in a bag and do the same cut slit.. and use a portable picnik fridge for keeping it cold before applying. I bet there would be much less stories about lost queens

      Interesting but not approved method.
      You you get more detailed on how to do this?

    • @researcherAmateur
      @researcherAmateur ปีที่แล้ว

      It's nothing complicated.. you can see the sponge in a bag on the last video of 'pcelarski sokak' channel. It usually stays 3 weeks.. 60% formic applied with a syringe. 50 -60cc. You can dose it with how you cut the slit on the bag and apply 3 times once a week or 5 times in 21 days.. some use a treatment of 3 times in 15 days... depending on how strong they are and how hot it is... we all have our ways. I bet if you ask him he'll explain in detail. His climate is more similar to yours.
