I know I said that the next video would be installing the gauges, but that involves pouring over footage going back over a year which will take forever. I will get to that soon, but in the meantime you can watch me bumble around with a MIG welder trying to look like I know what I'm doing.
Just finished watching the playlist of the SC build today and then got the notification for a new video and was thrilled. The build looks amazing and I can't wait to see it all come together! Even though long gaps between videos can be frustrating as a viewer, it's amazing to see an honest representation of what having a project car can be like for an every day guy. Keep up the hard work!
Thanks for watching and commenting. Yeah I'm paying all the bills for this build, so things tend to take longer than bigger channels. The woes of being a small TH-camr. It takes time to get everything done on the car without taking out loans or going into debt. I try to get a video out every two weeks, but sometimes that goes longer. It's nearly track ready now, so track footage will be coming soon!
@@FullySpooled Can't wait! And I understand the struggles lol other things need to come first. Thanks for putting in the effort, time, and money because it all shows!
FreeAll is the best! Also, that 30s video - cool as heck, and informative. I'm bummed we didn't make it out, but stuff happens, and the next one will happen! Allllllso, that moment where the drain pan lit ... oof. I mean, great TV, but dangerous :)
Krakkles I was hoping you would comment. Isn’t that video incredible? Highly informative and easy to understand. We will get out to the track soon for sure. And yes, that moment was indeed good tv. I’m all about the drama.
Thanks to your videos i got inspired to keep working on a project that i have is a toyota celic supra 1985 for drifting. Im gonna take some of your ideas to implement them on my car. Im anxious to see your car done and drifting. When you're going to upload the next video was with the car completely done.Real thanks
Great video! I really appreciate you putting in the time lapse of cleaning the diff out after welding. You dont wanna catch a piece of metal between the ring and pinion or in a bearing..... ask me how I know.
Glen Heleski yep, trying to show as much of the process as possible. The welding itself is only about ten minutes. You spend hours cleaning before and after. Did you blow a diff?
Haha. It actually was a best case scenario. A piece of metal got between the ring and pinion. It embedded in the ring gear and the whole thing sang while driving till I replace the whole thing.
john S there have been surprisingly few bugs so far. It’s just the bugs I do have are pretty big ones. Power steering is working now, so after I adjust the toe it should be ready for the track.
It just looks so delicious! Everything unfortunately did not go smoothly for the event, but at least the car is getting sorted and I'll be out at another one soon.
Welded pretty good for a handler140. If you want more penetration i wouldnt get the updated version probably better off getting a handler 190 something that plugs into 220 if you have the outlets
The 140 has been doing great so far. I don't have the outlets for 220, but honestly I haven't needed the extra power yet. Pretty much everything I need to do at this stage of the build can be done with the 140. I'd love to get my hands on some other tools though. Plasma cutter would be incredible.
I've got an SC300 diff (4.3:1) lying in my garage from my SC400 rally car project. I never got around to installing it. I can make you a very good deal on it, if you're interested.
DualSport Cars thanks for the offer. I’m dealing with some surprise power steering expenses right now and don’t have the budget for more parts at the moment. I’ll keep you in mind though when I get to that part of the build
@@FullySpooled no problem at all, it's not going anywhere fast. I had a similar issue with my power steering, slight leak from the rack that was in the car when I bought it. I let it go for almost 2 years since I parked on the gravel next to my driveway. I finally decided to replace the unit with a reman from Autozone, first day in the car is blew a side seal. Such a pain. Where the banjo fittings go, be sure the powder coat is perfect, otherwise scrape it down to the aluminum on the seat area for the copper washer. Mine leaked there too.
Normally I agree, but this grease was put in a place that has no moving parts and was not designed for it. So it just sprayed out all over the under side of the car and made a mess.
Coronavirus happened. The new engine is installed and running great. I just haven't been making a lot of videos over the past year. Got a new job, global pandemic, etc. I need enough free time to get back to the track.
I measured the distance between the spider gears and cut out cardboard templates to make sure they fit snug, then traced to 3/8" steel plate. I don't have the exact measurements unfortunately.
So what you're saying about this differential is that you're having to weld it because there's no one else out there who can make it ... fully spooled.
@@Nah420yes Definitely. I just need to fix the rest of the broken stuff on the car. I might end up just going to an open drift day at the balcony and spend the whole day filming and drifting. I'll let you know.
Fully Spooled like all the hex bolts attaching the axel to the diff were rusted and already almost stripped I had to be hella careful and only one of them completely stripped and I had to cut it off. Everything is s disaster lol.

Dude those are some solid welds need to do mines next

Hey what kind of welder did you use?
It’s a Hobart Handler 140. 110v MIG.
Grease don’t hurt :)

Coronavirus happened. The new engine is installed and running great. I just haven't been making a lot of videos over the past year. Got a new job, global pandemic, etc. I need enough free time to get back to the track.
What will you suggest as far as donor differential to weld for my GS300? Is the 4.27 from the SC a better ratio for street?
Hurry the fuck up
Do you remember the size you cut the steel pieces for the fill in? How big?
I measured the distance between the spider gears and cut out cardboard templates to make sure they fit snug, then traced to 3/8" steel plate. I don't have the exact measurements unfortunately.

I already had the LS and T56. I was looking for a chassis to swap that into. The 1uz is great, I just had other plans.
Fully Spooled understandable
How dose he turn if its still a daily
It isn’t a daily. You can drive it with a welded diff, but tight turns really suck.

I did, just didn't film it. I used Lucas 75w90 gear oil.
