Yeah I try not to judge couples with a large age gap when one is barely an adult but I have to admit it’s a hard one because my own bias. Then when he said the same last name at the beginning I went “Already MARRIED?!” Then a KID on top of all that?! The kid is 1 and pregnancy lasts like 9 months so she was most likely 19 and pregnant. Oy vey.

How it should be, america promotes casual sex, birth control and contraceptives are unethical, if you have a kid together and raise it separately youre trash parents, being mature and getting married and being loyal with eachother for the rest of your life is extremely admirable, my grandparents did the exact same thing as this couple, same age and everything, they ended up having 5 kids and were married for 50 years until death did them apart

Well it doesn't really matter. She is not really willing to make any changes (none that I can see.) I can't even imagine her changing her lifestyle. Honestly, she went on this show to find out from Caleb if there is any way she could possibly "game the system more" such that she could take advantage of her credit card situation. There isn't one.

@@hanspz5505 yes for less. But yes, they will file. One of two things will likely happen: file for bankruptcy OR one will follow Caleb the other will not, and the one that doesn't want to stop spending will file for divorce. Its really horrible. But no, there is almost zero change these two will make the necessary changes in their lives to get back to zero. They will likely throw themselves on the mercy of government and just file and welsh.

I got out of big time debt by following the Dave Ramsey plan. Got a second job working at a restaurant nights and weekends on top of my 9-5 office job and cut spending to bare bones. It took three years and I’ve never worked so hard at anything in my life. I still listen to Dave and Caleb periodically, kind of like a long sober person going to AA meetings to make sure I never fall off the wagon again.

I have a thing against ipad kids especially seeing how some of my young cousins have turned out. Never get a baby a tablet!! They can watch TV sure but because tablets go everywhere they’ll use it all the time.

My daughter has had a tablet forever and she's fine because we set limits. She still does crafts, goes outside, sees her friends.

@@spf_500 we have a 1 year old. The only screentime he gets is is video calls with the grandparents. Basically kids should have no screen time (other than short video calls to see family) until at least 2, but more preferably 3-4. And even then in very short increments. Also stuff like sesame street is absolutely terrible for attention spans

She is a perfect example of the Dunning-Kruger effect - she *thinks* she is being smart about her credit card use by considering impacts on her credit score, avoiding overdraft fees by taking a cash advance on her credit card etc. But she doesn't realize that overall her/their finances are a train wreck.
She isn't the only person who contributed to their debt. He is just as guilty of getting into this debt as she is.
THIS! She admitted to going to a HIGHER Interest rate, for a LONGER loan term, in order to reduce the monthly payment. when in reality she added a ton to the cost of the loan by doing those two things instead of just paying a little bit more every month!
She has a concerningly strong emotional attachment to her $50,000 car that literally nobody needs. Getting rid of that literally saves YEARS of paying off debt. So foolish.

I developed a new habit. At least twice a week, I spend an hour checking my finances and budgeting while i listen Caleb's videos. Feels like he's auditing me.

I’m the same way! Everytime I watch this series, I take some time to review my own finances and see what I could be doing better. I definitely obtained a spending problem but I’m not accruing interest on most of my debts and I’m still paying cards in full, I just gotta focus on getting my savings up.
I finally got a better job that has fantastic benefits that is gonna have me set up for retirement again after not having it for over two years. Im really hopeful that I can still live a fulfilling life and not have to worry about my budget too much.
This is genius I also wanna add im making mine almost like a game where every time I’m under budget or on budget I add points to a big item that once I reach I will buy. Helps with my adhd impulse and goal setting.

That is what my husband makes and we live on the coast in Massachusetts.
We have 4 kids and own a house.
I’m, mostly, a homemaker but I work a per diem job that requires a degree and a professional certification.
I only work a few shifts a month. When my kids get older, I can work more.
We drive cars that we own and are over a decade old and have, nearly, zero consumer debt.
It’s still so expensive to live and we struggle.
But, we are more worried about other things like paying back our an equity loan we took out, solely to fix and add space to our house.
Shoot, I live in California and that $7000 looks pretty sweet…
A 21 years old stay at home mom does NOT need a brand new suv. My mind is blown, really. My husband tells me we can buy an extra car for me to drive and I refuse just because it's an extra cost when I can use public transport or my bike when needed. People need to make sacrifices for real..
When I heard 1k I was thinking to myself, holy crap. My car is extremely expensive and I pay 585 a month. It better be a damn G-wagon for 1k a month.

I would like to see an audit for someone or a couple who are not in mounds of debt. It would be nice to see someone who has it relatively together, but perhaps may be missing out on their full financial potential. I am 36, very little debt, good paying job, no car payment. However I am behind on retirement, it would be nice to have a budget review for enhancing my financial situation. Love the channel none the less, and still have great takeaways!

That'd be my spouse and I. But the primary advice we need would be beyond Caleb's ability (investing and retirement maximizing) because I'm fairly certain he's not legally able to advise like that. He'd need to have his Series 65 exam to do that, and you can't even sit for the exam without a financial institution signing you up fir the exam... (that's why I went for mortgage lending instead of investment advising).
I volunteer, that would be me and my husband. I'm pretty good with money. I have a lil debt, I'm making a lot more money now, but I have a plan and a nice savings account. But yeah, retirement.. I struggle.

The elephant in the room is the Brandon is 32 and Jessilyn is 21. Jessilyn is trying to figure out how being an adult works, but she is making colossal mistakes. Brandon on the other hand has been an adult well over a decade now. Just hearing Jessilyn talk/explain her way through everything gives us a snapshot of what Brandon hears every time finances/money are discussed. He needs to wear the pants in the household and say "no". But he can't because he's got to spend money on his BS too.
Yes, they have a kid (which makes this even worse but hopefully give them motivation) and Brandon has alimony for another kid (which makes this even worser). What's funny is they could have lived like this for years. It's took a major emergency (Jessilyn quitting her job AND car sales being in the bust phase for Brandon) to highlight the insanity. Hope they figure this out for the kid's sake.

There is no way his CS is $45 a month. He is claiming he makes ~120k a year. He probably owes a fuck ton in back CS..which means his wages can and will be garnished and/or he will go to jail. The back child support should have been high lighted and emphasized more as not only is it morally reprehensible, but being a dead beat dad will destroy him legally if his ex cares even a little bit. No drivers license, can't work anywhere that does even a basic background check, wages garnished and at worst he could land in jail with a criminal record. Paying the back child support should be priority one..full stop.
So many times my door dash or Uber eats driver has their kid with them. Plop the kid in their car seat and deliver until they are over it. You don’t NEED a sitter to do work like that.

I noticed that and idk as a guy maybe I am off target with this but when I see long nice nails that kinda tells me you don't get down and do the hard dirty work around the house because that gets in the way of changing the baby, cooking, cleaning, etc. I am sure you can still do these things with nice long nails as long as they are not crazy long, but its going to make things way way more difficult. And if I have learned anything from people they are often not going the difficult route they are often taking the ez road aka not doing what they should be doing as a stay at home mom.
60k for a car for a stay at home mom that won’t even pack lunch or make food for the family consistently. It doesn’t add up. Does she not realize what the responsibilities of a stay at home wife are? You don’t need all of these conveniences especially if one person is staying home! Working moms figure out how to get lunches packed and meals made.

The point that angered me is when she was arguing about keeping her 60k car that swallows gas like crazy for her to use as a fancy delivery car. Anyone in this situation would cut their losses and understand why getting an old reliable car is the smart option.
A $60k car is too much and she need something cheaper, but decent used cars are so overpriced right now. I bought a new car in 2018 my cousin bought the exact same car used last year and paid more than I did. With 40k miles I’ve only loss $4k in value.

Sure, they're not aesthetically pleasing, but they get the job done, and frankly, as an uber eats/doordasher delivery, she can rack up the miles on it and not worry about it. Just gotta make sure the car is clean, that's the real challenge. But even if she needs to fix the car, so long as it's not a transmission or engine issue, it'll still be cheaper than financing a somewhat recent car.
For deliveries you use an old Toyota Corolla with a 4 cylinder…nothing else makes sense 😮

FACTS, a 2017 Prius below 50,000 miles will run 20 grand or less and are available everywhere plus they don’t eat gas. This car would work perfectly for a delivery driver and also cover all of her personal driving needs. It would also run another 100,000 miles no sweat and in that time they could use the savings to pay off the debt.
I audibly gasped so many times during this one, the number of just bad decisions (not even financial ones but just collective life decisions and red flags) between the two of them are just phenomenal, I have never seen anything like this before in my life

Started dating in the spring. Immediately financed a $60k Jeep and she quit working (because the sun exists). They moved in together in June (?) and financed all their furniture, financed rings and a wedding in September, financed childbirth sometime in the winter. That lease is up, now they're trying to fund the deposit on a new place.
Plus they had a baby, which means added cost for iPads, and our guy "just found out" about child support for a kid from a previous relationship.

A Stay at Home Mom cooks. She runs the household, childcare, meals, laundry, etc. It’s a hard job, but it makes everything else run more smoothly. A SAHM takes pride in the job she does. And can I say, “CROCKPOT” is the secret to meal prep. Throw ingredients in the crockpot in the morning & Ta-da! meal ready in the evening. Leftovers become tomorrows lunch. Add a salad & a piece of fruit. 🙌 Eating out has to become the exception.

After watching the entire episode I am 98% confident that these two will do the bare minimum for 2 or 3 months. Then they will stop trying and be 180-200k in debt by the end of 2023.

Yeah 40% of my pay is taxes, but that includes health-, social-, nursing- and pension insurance that guarantees that my co-pay per day in hospital is exactly 10€ and that I can retire when I'm 64-67 years old at (in my case) 70% of my salary, but at least 49% of your pay.
Also most of the nursing costs in my old age are covered and I studied for almost free (technically 300€ per semester, but the public transports and books were included in that).
I am debt free except for my mortgage (0,7% interest, but nowadays it would be 3%) and I have to have no "bad weather" fund because I get social benefits when I lose my job or get sick. I feel very secure in life.
I am pregnant with my first and can stay in hospital as long as needed for 10€/day and will take 12 weeks off at full pay and another three months at 70% of my salary. After that my job is guaranteed if I choose to go back .

I got married young too, and instead of killing myself trying to pay for a freaking expensive ring, I worked with my now wife, found a ring she liked, and after coupons and deals I got it for $300. Even that was a lot. I think this culture of $1000+ wedding rings is insane.
I paid $150 for a white gold ring for my husband at a pawn shop. He proposed with his grandma's ring. He upgraded my ring a few years later to a beautiful one I love, paid $400 on eBay. Just can't see the point in spending more than that in jewelry.
