Your explanation at minute 7:25 about which fuse in the Fuse Tap controls which wire is backwards. The first fuse you installed in the Tap controls the new accessory, or light bar in this case, NOT “to govern the fuse you took out”. The 2nd fuse you put in the Fuse Tap controls your existing truck wiring, NOT the new light bar. That is how a Fuse Tap is constructed internally, and a simple ohm meter test of the Tap with fuses installed will verify what I just said. Plus, there is a polarity to automotive fuse sockets that wasn’t covered. If someone were to install a Fuse Tap backwards to that polarity, you run the risk of having electrical flow go thru both fuses at the same time which completely undermines the safety aspect of why a Fuse Tap uses 2 fuses to in the first place. And it is possible for one fuse in the Tap to short out and both devices will stop working. Ugh.
I just said the same thing.
Quick question if i know which way the org fuse came out of the fuse box cant i just put the two fuses in the fuse tap the same direction and then plug it into the box?
@@tomcoon6930 Not sure what you are asking, but the fuses themselves do not have polarity. It does not matter which fuse side goes in the fuse socket, or the fuse tap. It is the fuse box sockets in the vehicle that the fuses (and/or fuse tap) push into that have the polarity, which needs to be verified with a volt meter before plugging in the fuse tape. One side is hot. The other side is not. That is why it matters which way the fuse tap is installed but not the fuses themselves. Fuse taps are designed so that power flows from the front side of the tap toward the rear (i.e.: toward the add-on accessory wire). The front side of the fuse tap should go into the powered side of the fuse box, not the reverse. Ironically a tap will work either way. It’s just that if the tap is incorrectly reversed, the power will flow thru the factory fuse before going to the accessory fuse in the tap. Thus, the factory side (radio, windows, whatever) fuse has current for those items going thru it as well as the electrical current for the accessory add-ons, which is the light bar in this video. So, if the factory side fuse blows, the light bar will not work either even though its fuse in the fuse tap is still good. Hope this helps
I thought that my self. Do you know what side of the Fuse tap is the positive that you should match to the fuse box positive side?
@Torch The side furthest from the wire should go in the positive. So if you lay the fuse tap on the ground with the extra circuit wire facing left, it the post on the right should go in the positive.
The original fuse that was in the fuse box goes in the bottom of the wire tap, not the upper side which is for the accesory being added to the car.
I can't tell you how many videos I've watched on fuse taps, and you are the ONLY person that fully explained how to use it. Saved me a lot of money!
I have never done anything electrical with my truck, so watching this video and how you explained it was perfect. There wasn't a part that confused me because you properly detailed it.
Amazing video!
You have to orientate the fuse tap correctly by finding the positive side in the fuse panel. This way you are using each fuse in the tap correctly.
How do you determine that
@@austin2702 using a multimeter in the fuse panel.
@@mikeyb1nyne81 or a test light... or omitting the fuse for the original circuit. But you are absolutely correct.
Omg I had no idea those were polarized
What side of the fuse tap is the Positive? Looking at it from the front? left or right? The side closest to the wire running out or the other side?
The fuse slot next to the wire tap is for the new accessory and the other one is for the existing fuse
Correct. I realized I said it backwards long after I published this video. It seems most still get the basic understanding that I am trying to explain.
Is this an important factor to correct installing?
Best video I have seen on this topic.
Thank you so much for thoroughly explaining each step. I finally understand now. This was the only video I’ve found that actually shows it step by step.
I've been on the fence about buying the AVS light bar but after watching your video, I feel confident enough to do it. I'll let you know how it works!
How it go
@@omeroguerrero7297he had a thermal incident
Good video thanks. I’ll use this method to install my front WiFi camera for off-roading. I like to solder my connections and the heat shrink them.
I’m so thankful that people post these kids of vids 😭🙏🏾
Explained nice and simple 🤙🏻
Watched a hundred videos and finally found one that answered my questions. Thank you extremely helpful
Thank you for the great video! Really needed to watch something this concise
Thanks man. I needed a refresher since its been a while. This is way better than a wiring harness
Good to hear this was helpful!
Thanks Tommy!
Thank you for this video it was very helpful as I’m not mechanically inclined I was able to install this for someone that doesn’t work on cars I was able to install this in a little as 30 minutes what took time was the wiring but all in all I was done in less than a hr and a half so some one that is familiar this would be a walk in the park also the items you suggested made it even easier I went with a smaller wire manager and was able to use the clamps that came with kit came out great love the look
Excellent video.tku for all of the explanation.well worth it.
Thank you, this was awesome!!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you, the only video I have found that explains that the negative terminal of the battery is grounded to the vehicle chassis, hence a negative wire can be attached to 'any' bolt. I do wonder about the fuse tap though, as the first fuse should complete the circuit for the original purpose. Although you clearly warn not to mix fuses, I wonder if the second fuse is its own circuit, allowing me to place a different (lower) rated fuse into the second position. The fuse board may have a number of fuses, down to 5Amp, but perhaps I want a low 3Amp device (for USB, as an example).
The market/clearance lights were knocked out on a 2014 Freightliner m2 106 I purchased at auction. I found what I can only describe as a very melted homemade/ghetto version of a fuse tap but I didn’t understand what I was looking at until I watched your video, thank you!
Sir, thanks for sharing; excellent class and easy to follow.
This type of light comes on 1tons. I put one on my 3/4 ton Ram grounded it and the positive went to one of the license plate lights. Never ever have I had a problem in all the vehicles I’ve done something similar to this. Now that light comes on withe headlights. Easy works great.
this helped so fucking much tommy you have no idea son.
Thank you very much for this detailed and thorough explanation. Definitely learned from your video. Kudos!
THANK YOU! I watched your video before going outside to help my boyfriend. He couldn't figure it out and I went out there like "DUH you have to do it like this." He was like "you're a genius!" And I walked away feeling like a boss! Hahaahaa thanks for making me look smart, haha I do a lot of electrical work and never did anything using the fuse box so this helped me so much! I truly appreciate you taking your time to show us with your very awesome video. You're a great teacher! 💖🤗💖
Glad I could help! That’s a great story!
loved this video! you have helped me so much, thank you!
Great Video Very easy to understand
Tommy you the man! I like your installation method. Very faulty proof and simple. Thanks for explaining the fuse tap.
Great explanation! Thank you!
Great video, just bought same hood accessory, wasn't sure on which fuse to use,but this helps alot!
Thank you for this short and simple explanation. I did not want to become an electrician or car expert, just wanted to install a led light strip. Kudos for skipping the boring lesson.
Awesome video. I was going to ask about the AMP of the fuse, and you answered it at the end.... If I pull a 10A fuse out from the box and insert it at the top of the dongle, then, I will need to use a 10A fuse for my new circuit (to be inserted at the bottom of the dongle). AWESOME video. As you mentioned, always use the same Amp fuse that you pull out.
The original size fuse goes in the bottom slot when the blades of the add-a-fuse are pointing down. Ignore claims that the new fuse must be equal or smaller than the original, because the only limit is the diameter of the pigtail wire.
Thanks for good information
Thank you, great video!
Glad it helped!
Thank you!
Thank you sir!!!!!
Great demo, HOWEVER, I did the same thing and the lights goes on as soon as I put the wire tap in the number 3 slot. The problem number 3 and 4 have 12 volts of power, it doesn't shut-off when the truck is off. I checked it with a multimeter. I used slot 90 instead which turns on when the truck is on. My truck is 2023 RTL silverado, so there maybe some differences.
Will this void the warranty?
You have the fuse order backwards. The factory fuse goes at the bottom and the new device fuse goes on top, adjacent to the wire. Also, the fuse tap has to be oriented according to which side the power is coming into the box. Yea- it will work either way but the wrong way is risky. The fuse for the new device must be lower amp than the factory fuse you’re tapping into.
Very nice. Top video.
I tried the same fuse (#3) on my TB Custom, that fuse is not hot when on (maybe is the halogen headlights), so had to use a different fuse, same logic though. I just kept testing with my pen looking tester until I found a 20a fuse that was hot when in accessory. Thanks for the video!
Thanks. Fuse 3 and 4 work on the LT trail boss, the custom does not have the LED signature lights. That’s why it didn’t work. Glad you found a circuit that works.
@@tommysgreatoutdoors that’s what I figured but wasn’t sure, thanks for clearing that up. 👍🏼
Thanks! It’s really nice hear how you explain so well y slowly thanks.

great video thanks!
You're welcome!
Great video
This has to be the best video ever thank Tom!
I appreciate the video
hey i ground my wire the same way..thats old school and never had a problem.mainly cause the wire is so small😊
Jesus AND fuse taps!!!???! What more could I ask for :)
This helped so so much thanks 🙏
Your video was so detailed and highly informative. Really appreciate your hard work. To which fuse did you connect? The Day time running lights?
For my 2021 Trailboss LT fuse 3 and 4 govern the headlight including the DRL. The DRL itself is controlled by a BCM, the fuse covers the whole circuit.
@@tommysgreatoutdoors great vid! And great Q dronefilms, I was wondering the same.
Tommy, I too was considering wiring my accessory lights (underglow on a 2016 Challenger) to my headlight fuse, but fear if I mess something up that I'll risk losing my headlights and put myself in a dangerous situation. Do you know if there's any "safer" fuses to tap to while also enabling the accessory lights to come on when you hit your key fob? Or is the ultimate solution just to tap properly to the headlight fuse?
@@griffinsullivan7246 You should be safe using the headlight fuse using this method. One fuse will govern your head light (fuse position opposite of the wire) . The other fuse will govern your new lights. So if you mess it up, your headlight will continue to work as expected.
@@tommysgreatoutdoors amazing. Thanks so much for the feedback!
I was installing an electric brake controller and so scared, your video finally gave me the confidence to attack the project...
Hey Tommy Great helpful video! In your opinion if I want to power a 12v monitor for my trailers back up camera should I tap into the 12V Cig fuse or another accessory that only turns on when the key is turned on? What other fuse would you recommend? Thanks again!
Without knowing the specifics, I can say that the 12v accessory (cig fuse) would be a great place to start since it’s designed to run a multitude of accessories up to 12v.
Where did you end up taping it ?
So my accessory light stays on the whole time even though i used fuse slot 3 listed as a headlight. But the headlight turns off as it should
Slot 3 is specific to my 2021 LT Trailboss. It should also work for 2019 and 2020 LTs. It may be different for your needs.
Yes! Why is that
@@arthurbrown2571 the Custom Trail Boss does not have DRLs and therefore functions differently. The 22.5 refresh LT models combined the DRL and turn signals into one unit.
Ok thanks
helped a lot
How do you route a fuse tap into the box? Do you have to drill a hole through the box to be able to clip/seal the lid back on?
All fuse boxes are a little different. But most have a channel or opening to run wires through on the side or top. Worst case you should to be able to feed from the bottom.
I had raptor lights installed to my grill. They used an add a fuse and connected it to the headlight in the fuse box. I also have fog lights with backlighting that I’m about to tap into the headlight wire. Would it be a bad idea to just tap into the raptor light wire instead? Kind of hesitant to tap into factory lights
They are not designed to piggy back off each other. Better to pick a new fuse position.
I'd like to know where this guy at to do my vehicle
Thank you for the explanation, question.. you tapped into 20A fuse, what would be the difference if you tapped into a 10A fuse? I guess better way of putting it, what’s optimal amps for the light bar 10A or 20A?
I tapped into a 10 amp fuse position and used 10 amp fuses. Two 10 amp fuses does not equal 20 amps. You can basically tap into what ever you want as long as you do not exceed the load that the circuit is rated for and use the proper fuse to protect it. Hope this helps.
Hi Tommy, do you happen to know how long the light strip is that comes with that? I was thinking of changing the light strip to a RGB light strip instead of the one that comes with it before I buy 1.
Mine is 36”. BTW be careful with RGB as the police don’t like flashing red and blue….lol
In terms of 'protection', the orientation of the fuse tap to plug in the fuse box makes a 'big' difference. Can you elaborate on that?
This is something I did not do a good job in this demonstration. I plan to make a new video to address this soon.
The circuit will work in either orientation, but if backwards it will not be correct. The only thing bridging the poles are the fuses, therefore when correct there is a circuit for each fuse lined up. If backwards then the circuit will first line up through fuse one and then on to fuse two.
Best way to determine orientation is a DVOM
Can you run two or three of them off one fuse, to run multiple things?
There is a difference between can you versus should you. Other than it would be a sloppy install, most of these top out at 10a and you may overload that with multiple circuits.
How did you cover the fuse box back with the wire sticking out?
I was just able to close mine, there was a small rubber gasket and it doesn’t pinch the wire.
Can you use a fuse tap on a empty slot? My fuse box in the cab doesn’t have many options and the ones there are aren’t rated high enough for the tap fuse I was [20A] so need a [25A] or higher.
You can use an empty slot. If you cannot find a tap rated for your circuit, it may be better to wire directly to the battery and use an inline fuse holder rated for your project instead of a tap. Also use a wire gauge rated for your 25A.
How did you run the wire out of the fuse box? Did you drill a hole in the cover?
No drilling. The wire is snug against the lid and gasket. Just check to make sure you’re not pinching your wire.
Ok so iam looking for 12volt slot right now
Hi Tommy! Sorry for the long question. I just want to add a 12v cigarette lighter socket to my 1985 Honda Civic. My question is i saw in the fuse box diagram that i got a Clock/Cigarette lighter slot and currently it has 15amp fuse in it (im not sure why, yes i do have a digital clock on dash, but no factory cigar lighter socket installed in it. Even in the manual handbook there's no factory installed for this model. That's why i would like to install one for charging phones, or other accessories, aside from the coolness of having a cigar lighter itself). So if i will remove that 15amp fuse, and insert a Fuse tap to replace it on that slot - i understand that i should insert the original 15amp fuse that i removed earlier to the fuse tap, but then shall i put another 15amp for the cigar lighter socket? Or should be just 10amps? (i dont want to cause smoke/fire/electrical damage when im charging a phone or engaging the cigar lighter).. what is safer as the tapping fuse - 10 or 15amps? Also where should i put the cigar lighter socket's fuse, from your video - it should be on the side of the tap's prongs? Last question would be will an 18 AWG wire good for this install? Or what is better Sir? Thank you so much!
Hello - The fuse tap has two positions. The position furthest from the wire on the tap will govern the original 15A circuit. Then add your new 10A fuse to the other open position. 18AWG at 12V should take the 10A.
@@tommysgreatoutdoors Thank you Sir Tommy! If i have further questions hopefully i can still message you. Thank you!
By the way Sir, i understand that the Fuse tap wiring will be wired together to the 12v cigar lighter socket's positive (red) wire and the negative (black) would be screwed to the chassis ground. Now, if the 12v cigar lighter socket that i would add has already a 10amp in-line (bulb) fuse included on the red wiring - would it be ok if the fuse tap has the original 15amp blade fuse plus the 10amp additional blade fuse for the 12v cigar lighter socket? Making it one (1) 15amp blade fuse + one (1) 10amp blade fuse both inserted on the Fuse tap's head then still another one (1) 10 amp bulb fuse included on the positive wiring of the socket? Would there be lot of fuses already? What shall i do then? Thank you Sir
If your new 12v adapter has a fuse already, then it will just be double protected if you use this method. It won’t hurt anything.
@@tommysgreatoutdoors Thank you Sir. I'll wire the fuse tap to the red wire of the 12v socket, then the negative (black) wire of the 12v socket il wire to a chassis screw, then insert the original 15amp blade fuse to the holes parallel to the fuse tap prongs, then the new 10amp blade fuse to the holes parallel to the fuse tap wiring. Next Il use a 12v light meter tester to test the fuse box's positive hole. Il insert the front prong of the fuse tap (with the wire on the left) on the hole where the tester lit up. Il retain the in-line 10amp bulb fuse on the red wiring of the socket as you said double protection. Then turn the ignition ON and see if the lighter socket works. What do you think Sir? Thank you!
I have the same truck as in the video,so seeing as I'm dealing with the identical fuse box, I thought I'd hit you up. I installed raptor lights, used a tap to tap off of the L parking light fuse so they would come on with the parking lights. Worked prefectly. Now the issue: How to run the wire out of the box? I noticed you didn't replace the lid in your video after you made the connection. This panel is sealed in there pretty tight, so I can't get access from the bottom. And this lid has a double lip on it, I assume to keep any moisture and dust out, which seals pretty tight. Because this looks like it's meant to be a seal, I'd hate to notch the lid or lip. I eneded up just running the wire over the edge and pushing the lid down until it snapped closed. Not the ideal situation, as the wire is pretty crimped. Any suggestions? Thanks
I didn’t do anything special on mine. Just carefully placed the wire and put the top on. The seal on mine was pretty soft. After checking a few times it does not seem to hurt the wire any. Hope that helps.
Greeting Tom, Nice vid. Thanks for posting. One question, after I did the install everything works great but when I turn of all lights via the interior switch everything go's off except the new led lights I installed. Did I miss something ? Do your's turn off ? 2024 Ford Explorer ST
Hi There - Glad you enjoyed the video. The fuse position and use of the circuit will be a bit different from a Ford to a Chevy. Sounds like the install is correct, just need to find a different fuse position that will give you the desired effects.
You really have 2 options, Use a DVOM to check circuits in the fuse box to find a position that works for you, or simply use some trial and error to find one. If you do that you could also check Google to find what position is an ignition on only fuse. Hope this helps.
@@tommysgreatoutdoors I did find the fuse for the drl's thats on all the time while vehicle is running so thats what I tapped into. I can turn all the lights off using the inside knob that turns everything off except the newly installed leds. I can turn off the drl's, turn off the headlights and the fog lights just won't turn off the new lights. I can live with that but it woulda been nice to have the option to turn all the light off when I want. I don't think I have any other fuses that I can use to allow me to turn them off with out adding a switch. Can you get your leds to turn off with the truck running ?
@ mine operate the same way. I guess I never needed to turn them off. I usually run with the DRLs on.
@@tommysgreatoutdoors Good to know. I'll call it DONE. Thanks again for your knowledge.
Should the fuse for the lights be a lower amperage one than 20 amp?
Yes it should.
I was wondering the same thing
I did the same thing taped into the headlight fuse #3 just wondering how come my light pods don’t turn off when I turn off my headlights
Fuse 3 supplies power to the whole headlight fixture, including the LED signature light. The head light on/off is controlled by the BCM. You’ll need to get more creative if you want it to work that way.
I wanna order that aeroskin with light but most websites says it doesn’t fit the trail boss …. I have a 2024 trail boss will it fit my truck?
The AVS website is a little strange about this. This truck is a 2021 LT Trail Boss. AVS said it did not fit, but it fits perfectly fine. Your 2024 has a slightly different hood. My recommendation is to buy it from Amazon. I have included a link in the description. Test fit it, If it works, then great, if not, then its a free return.
By any chance does it vibrate while driving on the Expressway?
Not at all. I’ve had this for 2 years with no issues.
Do you think it's a good idea to use my drl strip on headlight fuse using a fuse tap
That is essentially what I did in my example. Should work just fine.
If I have 2 light bars, one on the roof and one on the hood, how do I connect the cables there? and they go the same in fuse 3?
I would recommend 2 separate circuits. You can use the same bolt like I did in the video to ground, or one similar near by. But use two fuse taps. For a LT Trailboss fuses 3 and 4 would be good places to start.
How do I add a switch to it? Where does the switch connect ?
You could add a SPST switch anywhere in line with the red wire.
Did you have to notch your Fusebox cover to get it back on?
Nope. There’s enough room in mine to run the wire without pinching it.
Would this work for some new fog lights? 🤔
I think you could. The fog lights will operate anytime the LED signature lights come on, including opening and closing the doors, but yes, it will work.
You could also find an ignition on circuit and install a manual on/off switch too.
Thanks
If I’m tapping a fuse for a dashcam, would it be better to have it so the current runs through the main fuse I’ve tapped into by plugging it in what most people would consider to be the “wrong way” where if the main fuse goes out, say to the cigarette lighter, I also lose power to the dashcam, or would it be better to plug it in the “correct way” where the circuits can operate independently of one another where if the cigarette lighter fuse blows, the dashcam still runs? The concern I have with wiring it the “right way” is because I don’t know what the wires leading up to the individual fuses in the fusebox are rated for. Would you happen to know anything about this and should I be concerned? Is the “wrong way” actually preferable to ensure the wires leading up to the fusebox don’t get overloaded? Is the hot side of the fuse slots just directly connected to the battery with a giant high Amperage rated wire where the 12 V sides are connected by high amperage rated rails like a breadboard so I don’t even have to worry about the wires leading up to the fusebox getting overloaded?
The orientation of the fuse tap is something I should have covered. The voltage to the fuse box is constant. If you plug it in backwards (wrong way) and you overload the circuit, you’ll simply blow both fuses instead of one. Plugging it in the correct orientation is always preferred.
@@tommysgreatoutdoors do I have to worry about overloading the circuit leading up to the fusebox if I plug it in the correct way though? For example, if the wire leading up to it is 10 A and the fuse that came with the car is 10 A but then I tap that 10 A fuse alongside a 2 A fuse, then that circuit can potentially draw up to 12 A before a fuse blows right? Wouldn’t that be a problem if the circuit leading up to the fusebox is only rated for 10 A?
@@BimmerWon no. If you plug it in the correct orientation, then it’s simply a 10A and a 2A on their own respective circuits.. It’s will never be a 10A + 2A or anything like that.
@@BimmerWon additionally the fuse protects the circuit and not the fuse position in the fuse box. The amps going to the fuse box is constant.
@@tommysgreatoutdoors ok so basically I can just choose any always on fuse and any only on when car is on fuse and I don’t have to worry about it? Is it more preferable to tap into a lower or higher amp fuse slot?
Sir, how did you know which was to insert the fuse joiner into the fuse box.
How did you avoid crossing polarities?
Everything in the fuse box is positive. There is no polarity to cross. I didn’t show orientation very well in this video. Best to use an digital ohm meter for that.
If i have a 15 amp light and want to add another lets say 5 amp light, which placeholder does the 5 amp fuse go into the tap, and which place does the 15amp fuse go? Or does it not matter which one?
Yes it matters. I didn't show this well in the video. There is a "top" and "bottom". It may be a little hard to see, but the red wire will either be on the top or bottom of the plastic fuse housing. Were that wire is will be the new circuit you are installing leaving the other one for the existing circuit.
Is there a way to extend an accesory cable???
Trying to connect an illuminated Camaro emblem. So I’m trying to find a fuse that only turns on when the car is on, would the passenger window fuse work? Or is that not good to use?
You can use any fuse position, it won’t hurt anything. Other than that, it’ll be some trial and error to find the one that gives you the desired results.
So you've bridged the headlight fuse for the light already installed as addition. What fuse are you going to bridge whey you install this new light that you showed in the video? Are they somehow all going to the headlight fuse?
I am just using one fuse tap for one light (the AVS lights on the front of the truck). That fuse tap controls the original right headlight circuit with a 10A fuse and the tapped circuit with another 10A for the AVS light.
The red marker lights are used for demonstration purposes only. However another additional tap could be used in a different fuse box position if someone wanted to add those.
you say the size of the new fuse has to be larger but if im installing a dash cm how do i know what new fuse to use?
The 12v automotive chargers will take up to 15A usually. See if you can find the power requirements for your particular camera and go from there. I recommend something 10A or less for most of these.
I added LED Emblem light to my 2021 Escalade similar way, used fuse number 28 which is Right headlamp, but the issue is its always on, what i am doing wrong?
Sounds like your wiring is good. Best advice I can give you is to do some trial and error testing on different fuses to find the one that gives you what you are looking for.
Hi. I don't quite understand this video as far as the end goal. Were you trying to get your new light bar to turn on/off with your headlights? I have a 2021 Silverado Custome and I bought LED fog lights that I want to turn on when my headlights turn on. I want to do this without having to install a relay and switch. Will your method work for that? Also, is there any risk with "too much" into one fuse terminal? I know the last question may seem strange but I have no real idea about automotive electrical work, which is why I am leaning toward TH-cam. Thanks a million. Great video.
Hi - My goal was to have these come on with my headlights and side marker lights. The circuits in the Custom are a bit different as there is no LED signature light. Most people that I see do something like you are doing have either a switch or have them come on with another circuit such as the head lights.
The risk should be low as they are LEDs and don't draw too much current. But the cleanest way was to have them on with own circuit with a switch.
@@tommysgreatoutdoors Thanks for the response. In regards to the Custum trim, what about using a fuse tap to tap into the Misc. Ign 10 amp fuse? I am not sure what this fuse does exactly but it did work. I disconnected it because I am just not sure yet but what do you think? The lights turn off and on when the truck is off and on.
@@ManuelGarcia-nw3uf I think 10 amp is fine for 18 gauge wire.
Look at the top of the fuse box lid. It should tell you what the circuit controls.
If it’s a misc ignition on fuse, and it works as expected, I would think you are good to go.
What do you do with the other ACC white
Ur video is the best. I watch a few dumb people video make me headaches 😊
When putting the 2 fuses into the tap, I assume they have to be the same amperage right?
No, there are some internet myths on this. Each fuse position its own circuit, its own fuse, and its own rating.
@tommysgreatoutdoors Thank you so much for the quick response, but if they aren't the same and what I'm trying to install does not come with a fuse, then how do I know what 2nd fuse to plug into the tap?
@@GGelatoW I am not sure what you are tying to install. Best to check with the manufacturer. They will provide a fuse rating.
Led hood light, I will do my research, thank you!@@tommysgreatoutdoors
I have the aerocab version of this, the one that goes on the top of the cab. I used a fuse tap just like you showed us here, I tapped into fuse 38. It worked, but only at night. It didn’t come on with the lock/unlock like yours did and then a few days later I came out to a dead battery. Any ideas as to what I did wrong?
For a 2019 to 2021 GM truck Fuse 38 is for TIM tire inflation monitor. Probably not a good fuse to use. I recommend fuse 3 for this install.
@@tommysgreatoutdoorsThank you!
I’m wondering if i can make the fuse tap longer, how?
Add additional wire is probably the easiest way.
I have a 2017 High Country and my fuse 3 is for the ABS pump. Fuse 28 (15A) is parking light left. Should I tap into this one? There is nothing listed on that panel for headlights.
Installed this same hood protector, but when I tapped the same fuse (3) for headlights, I couldn’t get the light bar to turn off with the truck. Any idea why?
The fuse position that you need may be different depending on your year and trim. Fuse 3 or 4 are good for my 2021 LT Trailboss, but will be different for a custom or a refresh model.
@@tommysgreatoutdoors mine is 2023 Chevy LTZ with the 3.0 Duramax. I ended up tapping into one of the others for running lights and it works fine, just don’t get the added effect of it lighting up on the lock/unlock
Yes, the refresh models are different as GM integrated the turn signal into the DRL's. The 2019-2022.5 LT, LTZ, LT Trailboss, and high country have the turn signal and DRL's separated.
@@tommysgreatoutdoors ahh. Makes sense!! I did notice the fuse description included the turn signals.
Would this work for fog light also
It would, however the fuse tap alone would not give you the ability to turn them off and on unless you install a switch. May or may not be an issue depending on what circuit you tap into.
I have a question, how do you close the fuse box? It wont mess up the wire when you put the cover back on? Im scared of that happening
I can’t speak for all fuse boxes, but most leave a gap or channel to run wires through.
Thank you for the information
How do you know what kind of fuse to use on your accessory
1 - check with the instructions of what ever the accessory is. There should be a rating there. 2- Most 16 AWG will handle 10 amps. If you use a different gauge wire, there are tables on line to reference.
