I've been told repeatidly that the creator said that the ending it actually that Max's family is safe and sound on Christmas morning. Just leaving a bell to remind them what will happen if he has to come back again. The snowglobe is just his viewing window to the families he visits. And having read the tie in comic where all the people he attacked on that night being alive and well after, seems likely.
It also makes the attacks on the neighborhood and FedEx and any other potential motorists in the area make more sense with the Dickensian dream reveal. What did those bystanders do to bring Krampuses wrath upon them? Instead the mass abductions just serve to be a tool to reinforce invincible, inescapable isolation for the family in question in the dreamrealm.

Also, if seriously asking, the comic seemed to show Krampus didn't really care to much about letting others getting caught in the wake of his mayhem. I mean, when challenging a Mall Santa with PTSD he actually allowed his elves to target small children and bite the fingers off another mall employee.
It's a shame that this was rated PG-13 instead of R, then, we would have gotten an even better Christmas horror movie. Still, it's my favorite Christmas horror movie.

The "Wiseman" and Max @ 3:11 looks more like the Kirk Cameron's Santa beating the extra belief into that one dude so he could, in his world, "save Christmas"

"Krampus is like Christmas Vacation meets the mist, if you think about it"....well, if you think about it....David Koechner DOES kind of look like Randy Quaid AND take a lot of similar roles to what Quaid used to take. So yeah, it fits.

I also like the design of krampus as you said its teh dark reflection so much so hes wearing a Santa horror skin mask so we never truly see his face. I also felt they used Krampus just right as we feel his presence through the movie and when he finally shows up its a "holy shit" moment.

Biggest disappointment was how Krampus face never moved, making it just an obvious mask. Other than that, he looked good. You made a good point about the practical effects though, we need that these days.
I really enjoy and like this movie. I find it a fun and entertaining watch with some creepy designs and atmosphere (not much in horror, kills or scares but it's pg-13 and I like the comedic horror aspect the film goes for)

Check out Rare Exports, a Christmas Story. Anybody who can't read it themselves, is too young to watch it. This story is set in...Norwegia I think. It follows the story of a young boy in the area, celebrating the season with his father. It's a bit more nuanced than straight out Krampus, but it does follow the story of a boy who's looking up what the holiday season historically was for people who live in or around the area. The stories of Santa, toy building elves and flying reindeer disappears, and something else arrives to the forefront: a fey-ish creature possibly part of the Winter Court of the fey or maybe even an ancient demo-god shows up to remind humans of the perils of winter, so parents control the brat's behavior, and brats, if parents won't keep you going the line of polite and ethical behavior, this particular being may snatch you away, maybe eat you, maybe no, good luck.
I thought Krampus 2015 was okay. I just wish it was rated R and seen more of Krampus himself! But its still worth the watch! Great review Doc! Looking forward to more videos in 2019!
Fun fact: they say that when Santa (or Saint Nick) left coal for the bad children the coal was a sign for Krampus to know which children deserved to be punched. The Black Spot of Christmas, so to speak.

I think this film works as a modern day version of The Gate or Gremlins, kind of a gateway horror film for younger folks
Gremlins had gore though, melting Gremlin and exploding Gremlin in the microwave.
I saw this in the movie theater, and then got a hand engraved Krampus bell for Christmas.

I finally found a Christmas Horror movie I haven't watched yet Game Over (1989). It's a French horror movie about a killer dressed as Santa Claus.
