    I figure the magician Assistant was murder behind the scenes and then Kenny took over dressing in a gown and wearing a wig, then killing the magician when the conductor move everyone to the next train cart.

    A costume party on New Years Eve isn't as uncommon as people think. When I was younger, and would go to my grandparents' house on New Years Eve, the house on the corner had such parties a couple of times.

    I actually really like Tubi. They do, of course, have their problems, but there's enough entertainment there to spend the zero dollars they ask for. Heck, you don't even need an account. It's a pretty refreshing change from the "we want to control your every entertainment decision and make you pay for the privilege" attitude the big-boy streaming channels have.

    Fun fact:
    The original *Terror Train* was the debut film for director Roger Spottiswoode who'd later direct *Turner and Hooch* *The 6th Day* and Pierce Brosnan's second 007 film *Tomorrow Never Dies* and he is also the executive producer for Touchstone's PG-rated dinosaur-flick *BABY: Secret of The Lost Legend*

    So, the train company capitalizes on a mass murder one year earlier, by having a New Year themed party. And they hire a single security guard for the entire train. And that single security guard looks like they couldn’t guard a box of matches from a 10 year old.
    Well, great video as always Dr.

    I actually appreciate that this remake didn't just end like the original. That always bothers me when movies end abruptly and I wanted to see how this affected some of the people, not the shot of the corpse falling into the river. Though the masquerade makes more sense at Halloween than New Year's...

    @johnschou2172 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    I didn’t even know Terror Train had a remake. I actually saw Terror Train in 2019 a few days before New Years Eve, and I actually liked it. I will admit that part of why I liked it was that I was a senior in college about to graduate like the characters in the movie, so I was kind of in the same spot as the characters in the movie. Plus, I honestly liked the idea of the killer wearing multiple costumes. It’s rather clever to keep people on their toes. Plus, the train itself (at least for me) is in that Goldilocks zone of being claustrophobic and gigantic at the same time, which explains why people don’t find out about the murders until a good bit later.

    I loved your comments about studios desperately trying to emulate Halloween in the slasher boom. It's exactly why I hate the idea of "horror movie rules". These tropes we have come to expect are just accumulated years of lazy writing and studio bandwagoning. Copying what the classics did just because they did them, not understand why the classics were good.

    I do actually use TUBI somewhat regularly and on average, I'd say they have better content than Netflix. It also seems like someone at TUBI is a horror fan. I think I've only seen maybe 2 or 3 good horror films on Netflix but there's quite a few on TUBI...and these crappy remakes. There also just seems to be more variety, plus it's free which is another bonus. The commercials are annoying, that's the bad thing about it, but at least you're not paying for it so if a movie sucks then it hasn't cost you anything.

    Mild Spoilers:🔪🚂
    While the remake was rather generic, and treated the costume changes of the killer as an obligation rather than an opportunity (the remake killer technically only has two costumes), I did appreciate a different take on the twist. The magician not having an assistant let you know right away this twist would be different.
    I also liked how Kenny comes out of the train cabin after Alana escapes her fight with the killer in the conductor’s car; Kenny coming from a place that wasn’t the conductor’s car means he can’t be the killer. A twist before the twist!
    After all that misdirect, was the final reveal surprising? No. But I had (a sufficient amount of) fun.

    Hand on a phonebook, I saw this title and noticed I never watched it, watched the 1980s one, and not terrible. I have watched every full moon movie there is. This is plausible.
    I then thought that the second one was a direct sequel and started watching it. I was confused and stopped 38 minutes in to see what was happening as I was now certain there was a remake of the original somewhere. No way can I make it through these remakes. There is it's just bad, funny bad, rough bad and I'm okay with those, but this type of mainstream "people will watch anything" just above CW level of production is known as dog shits.

    I Like the original Terror Train. Yes, I agree that it doesn't stand out as much as 80s slashers like Friday the 13th, Sleepaway Camp, The Burning or My bloody Valentine. But compared with some of the lesser known and shittier titles that came out during the slasher boom and the late 80s. Terror Train is a good pick out of the more mediocre ones.
    As for the remake and it's sequel, I don't have any interest in watching them unless I can riff them with a couple of friends. But, since I'm alone most of the time. I'll just skip them.

  • @83shadow3
    @83shadow3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Thats the thing with the TUBI app you have to deal with commercials. But I rather do that then pay a subscription fee. Especially when it comes to hit-and-miss programming because if you don't like. The movie or show you can just stop it an you don't pay anything for it. But with say Netflix you still payed for that movie or show with your subscription fee. Because that money went into that movie or show.
    Now when it comes to remakes especially nowadays I just skip them. Because it's year 2020 plus now I want an expect all new original ideas and IP. Not remakes or things based off of older IPS.
