    I had this noise since January, and my local garage could not figure out the issue. After spending hours looking online for possible solutions, I came across your video🙏🏼 Noise seemed to disappear in wet conditions, which in the UK is 95% of the time. This past week, we have had hot dry weather, and the noise has come back and is exactly the same as the video a loud tinny clicking sound when accelerating whilst driving straight. Garage did suggest we start with the driveshaft but was worried we could be looking for a needle in a hay stack. I feel confident now this is the problem so thank you.

      Update. I had a new driveshaft fitted today, but the noise is still there😢 How did you know what side the noise was coming from exactly? I was sure it was the rear passenger side, but seemingly, it wasn't. Any other possibilities before I get the drivers side replaced also?

    Hi I have the same noise with my sq5 2018. Did you find a solution?

      I believe that the 201& model year was the start of a new generation for the q5. Not sure what changed between years but probably not too much with the drivetrain. My issue was a dry CV joint at the end of the driveshaft. Replaced that and it was good to go

    Hello I have exactly the same noise ! Did you figure out what it was ?

      djé doerfi Yes! This issue was with the Rear Driveshaft CV Joint. There is one at the front of the driveshaft where it connects to the transmission and one at the rear where is connects to the differential. The CV joint has a metal housing with a rubber boot which acts as a seal for the joint itself. We think our car may have run over something that damaged the undercarriage before we bought it. Some of the protective coverings were torn up and the metal portion of the CV join seal was slightly bent. It was enough for the CV Joint grease to leak out and allow the joint to dry up. This damaged the bearings in the joint and was causing a few issues: Clanking noises, Drivetrain vibration, constant TPMS warning lights. Audi doesn’t sell the CV Joint on its own, only with the entire driveshaft assembly. I found a company that sells an aftermarket CV Joint as well as the flange/boot that covers it. I bought that and I also bought some factory bolts from Audi (old ones can’t be reused) and replaced it. It took a while because I only worked a couple hours here and there on it. But you can knock it out in a day if well prepared. Audi wanted $9,000 to fix everything. I spent maybe $300 and gained some experience. DM me if you want more details. I’ll give you my number and give you a walkthrough.

      @@briantaylor8290 thanks a lot for your answer!
      First I thought it was the haldex that was default, but since the quattro works flawless, I was thinking more and more about the rear driveshaft.
      Was it easy to to see that the CV joint was failing or you had to disassemble all the rear driveshaft to find the failure ?
      For sure audi have some crazy prices!
      Here is the video of my problem with the whole story in the description, tell me what you think about it, and if you had the same noises?

      @AusAhmet Hey man. Definitely could be a driveshaft or CV joint issue. Also could be an issue with the transmission or the rear differential. When the car is in drive or reverse, the driveshaft would be engaged by the the transmission, so it makes sense that the drivetrain would be your culprit here. Get it up on stands and remove all the coverings so you can get a good look at the drivetrain. Be sure to not anything at all the looks out of place. It also helped me to put the GoPro underneath the car to narrow down where the sound was coming from.

      I honestly can’t remember where I got it from. I would call ECS Tuning or FCP Euro and see if they can offer a solution. You could also search online for “propeller shaft joint” for your model and year.

      Yes, not a ton, but noticeable enough to realize there was a problem. It was most noticeable around 55 mph.

      @@briantaylor8290 it can be the propshaft also?

    • @briantaylor8290
      @briantaylor8290  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@tsealin In my case, the issue was caused by the rear-most cv joint where the shaft connects to the rear differential. The cv joint seal has been damaged and all the grease and leaked and dried out. Replacing that cv joint was not quick or easy, but it did resolve the issue.
