Oh Christ some of these comments once again from Floor fanatics finest. How could he know what version he is "supposed" react to? Some of you should really start to think before commenting and downvoting, because this can scare some reactors away from Nightwish. You should also consider, that you don't have right to capture NW from us old fans, because many of us still like to see reactions to Tarja as well.
I love NW, old and new, and all three lead singers deserves some love, not hate or depreciation. And it is still Tarja, who we need to thank that we even have NW. Without her voice Tuomas would have never done songs like this. He had planned to do acoustic mood music.
With that said, I also think that Floor's version is better, especially that Wacken 2013 version. I still love this version, and I tend to prefer Tarja's originals in general.

@@ArsRegnandi Well I'm not sure who you meant of that ½, but if it was Anette, I have to say this. I was a Tarjaholic from 1998-2005, and when she got fired, I didn't accept anyone to replace her. I still didn't hate Anette. Her sound was just too poppy and ordinary for NW imo, and I lost my interest. Contrast was too big after Tarja. Now, many years later, while I still think that she was not the best singer for NW, I have started to appreciate her. She always gave everything she got, even when she was sick, and even when a song wasn't clearly very suitable for her range. So she was out of tune sometimes, but she gave everything for her fans. And while I still prefer Tarja and Floor, I think that she is a great singer. Is "great" a half from "brilliant"? Must be more ;)
Hopefully they treat Floor with more respect and dignity than they did Tarja and Annette.

And thank you for checking this legendary band, performing here at Helsinky Finland 2005, in the "End Of An Era" concert, then with the 1st female singer of the band, Tarja Turunen. This was also her last concert with the band, she was fired immediately after the show, with an open letter. Bitter-sweet memories..
About the instrumental and vocal added parts - it's good to know they recorded their orchestral and vocal back tracks with prestigious institutions as London Philharmonic Orchestra, London's The Metro Voices choir group and London's Young Musicians Children's Choir as their regular partners.
As I could see, you really enjoyed the energy of the performance, and appreciate all the key elements of a Nightwish show: the intricate classical-structured "cinematic score" composition, the high level of musicianship of all band members, the mainly operatic vocal approach of Tarja Turunen. This song is part of their 5th studio album "Once" (2004). The "Amy Lee reference" you heard was made for Floor Jansen, the 3rd female singer - but it's not a very good comparing reference as you'll discover in time.
Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory):
" Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer. They are from Finland. Tuomas Holopainen, the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. Marco Hietala is the Bassist and vocals .And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen . Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrumentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition.
Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen (Operatic vocals) - you just heard her. She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile).
There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit, Decades live (Floor). I hope this helps.

Hello again General Bardac! To add one thing to your amazing new reactors guide, Tarja is a 3 octave Lyrical Coloratura Soprano, and Floor is a 5 octave Dramatic Coloratura Soprano. The only other singers that come close to our beloved Valkyrie Goddesses of Metal are the late Whitney Houston (5 octave), Mariah Carey(5 octave), and Christina Aguilera (4 octave lyric mezzo soprano), tho those ladies are in vastly different genres.

So, this was Tarja, and this was actually a recording of her FINAL concert with the band, she was fired right after. Nightwish formed in 1996 with Tarja on vocals, she sings in a very operatic style. She left in 2005 (Long story, you will get the details if you stick with Nightwish, there's even songs about it) In 2007 they hired Anette, she had a pop style voice and was only with them 5 years before being let go in 2012. They had just started a tour when they lost Anette so they called in Floor Jansen to fill in, she completed the tour and was then hired on full time at the end. She's been with the band since and is their current, and final, vocalist. Floor is an impressive vocalist that can actually sing in several different styles and will be the main vocalist you will be asked to react to, though don't be afraid to react to the other singers as well.

Nice job. I am a NW fan since 2003. Tarja was what attracted me initially. Her opratic style was just so incredible. I love this concert. Floor brings more heart, emotion, just beautiful. But Tarjs brings this magical, etherreal, atmospheric feel to this song. So, yes i love both Tarja and Floor on this song. Floor and Tarja are freinds, so the whos better, is up to each person. I just dont understand the argument, both women are absolutley incredible ,vocalist. Toumas is such an incredible songwriter, and the band itself is incredible. I like anette also on Amaranth. Floor does beautiful on this song, any concert, Wacken 13usually suggested. But i love Tarja as well. Floor adds a long held note, while Tarja went backstage here to change wardrobe, and sllows the band to jam.
I love this version, as the choir part adds such a magical feel, running along Tarjas voice, beautiful. Like on their song Elan, marcos melodic vocal, along Floors chorus is beautiful. Just as i prefer Tarja and Marco doing Phantom, as it brings a more intense feel to the song, with Marcos gravely phantom, and their contrasting styles.

Sooner or later people will appear in the comments that are unhappy with what you do with regards to Nightwish, and apparently you're in the "sooner" group of TH-camrs. ;-) As with most bands, there's some fraction of amazingly dedicated fans that try to push what they think is the One True Way[tm] of doing Nightwish reaction videos, but rest assured, the vast majority of fans is very welcoming and more than happy to provide some support on your way down the rabbit hole. :-) Speaking of which, I think a certain Gabriel will be here shortly; he'll bring a welcome message with a very useful overview for those TH-camrs such as yourself who are checking out Nightwish for the first time.

honestly, the feedback is interesting. So multiple women took the lead in ONE band at different points in this lifetime? Why are we not celebrating ALL of the vocalists who came across this group rather than picking a favorite?! I would think the die hard fans would want to see reactions and comparisons to all the women rather than just their favorite... just some thoughts
@@nigelbattle Yes, that's right. As you felt it yourself in how the music affected you, their style is really special, and the first singer added her special vocals to this kind of music, it's almost like the band and her together created the defining sound of an entire genre. That's in my view the reason why many fans love her to death. However, this infatuation also caused a lot of drama when she departed from the band, which unfortunately resonates through the fandom to this day even though that was 15 years ago and the members themselves, however much it affected them at the time, have moved on since. And yes, I totally agree that fans should want to promote their band instead of antagonising people.
I certainly hope that you're willing to check out some more songs from them. If and when you do, feel free to choose anything you like. Everyone's journey is different, and you gotta start somewhere, right? ;-) There's so many things to discover, tuck in! And also don't be afraid to ask for advice, e.g. if you encounter a song that's too mellow for your tastes, people will happily chime in with recommendations of other styles. :-)
That's all very accurate about the utmost dedication of the fanbase, which can sometimes kind of lose sight of the bigger picture. Also there are very strong opinions about which versions of songs should be used for reactions, and some reactors have faced varying degrees of backlash when they have reacted to a version that has been deemed as "wrong" by the fanbase. Just as a single example, Ghost Love Score has been performed with Floor Jansen as the lead vocalist many times, and the Wacken 2013 version is the "correct" one to react to while the Buenos Aires 2012 version is the "wrong" one, according to the fanbase at large. It actually gets to a point where it's kind of sad that we can't just celebrate all of the lead vocalists and all of the performances without reservations.

Wacken 2013 video of this song is the vocalist ( Floor Jansen ) that some say has an Amy Lee sound. I think Floor has more range and power than Amy. Amy is also very good. The Nightwish Army bring you up to speed. Enjoy your journey.

What really suprises me is that you actually caught the End of an Era version with Tarja for your first time reaction of this amazing song. Nigthwish is a Finnish band formed in 1996. The group has 9 studio albums, the first five were recorded with Tarja (the woman you just heard). Anette is the second vocalist and has recorded 2 albums. Floor is the current vocalist and has also recorded 2 studio albums with the band so far. The band's sound changed a lot after Tarja left. The first five albums had a strong influence of power metal and gothic metal, as well as folk and symphonic music. These power metal and gothic influences are almost nonexistent today, and have given way to a greater folk and symphonic influence. My favorite albums are Oceanborn, Wishmaster and Century Child, the group's second, third and fourth albums respectively. I can't choose between them. An iconic performance recorded at this same concert you just heard (End of an era) is The Phantom of the Opera. "Ghost love score" is a song from the group's fifth album, "Once". The version you just heard is the original. In the album, the song ends with the choirs and the orchestra gradually disappearing. Years later, with Floor, it was modified. The choirs, the orchestra and vocal arrangements were reduced a little, but a vocal section was added at the end (a high note) that was very cool. Both versions are good in their own way. The original version has a more melancholy and emotional interpretation, following the theme of the lyrics. The Floor version has a more powerful interpretation, mainly due to the high note at the end.Tarja has a solo career too. In case you want to check it out, I suggest the studio version of the song "underneath". It is one of the most beautiful symphonic ballads I have ever heard. There is also an iconic live performance of the song "Supremacy" recorded at Woodstock in 2016.

God, I loved your reaction so much, it was really genuine and l must say really cute as well. l in fact thought this was gonna be Floor's version and was surprised when l saw Tarja, the Floor version Is great but to me this one really transmit the real feeling and message of the song, here you also can hear the background chorus which Is really important to really get the meaning and emotions of the song and with Tarja's voice makes a great song. Not criticizing Floor's version now ofc but that one transmit different things, Is More about her vocal skills imo. Your reaction was precious but there are some things you may want to know.
The vocalist in this video was Tarja, the first vocalist of the group. She was eventually replaced by Annette who was in turn replaces by the current vocalist Floor Jansen. However please try to avoid any comparisons with Evanescence, the two groups begun at about the same time but Nightwish is far superior in every aspect, at least for us Nightwish fans. In any case, I think everyone would like to see you react to the official live version with Floor. You might also want to look into the rest of the band members, if you decide to fall into the Nightwish rabbit hole, you won't regret it

You listened to the original version of this song with the original singer, Tarja Turunen. Nothing wrong with that and let's be clear, there are no "wrong version" with Nightwish songs. This is the original version, not the wrong version. The Wacken 2013 concert with the current lead singer, Floor Jansen, kicks this song up to another level, but the original is still great so don't feel bad about airing this one.

Absolutely fabulous... hmmm... be careful, Nightwish is an amazing journey and I've rarely loved a band more, but at some point it - or it's fans, at least a portion of them - have a tendency of running reactors raw. Just know that Nightwish, you're gonna get a ton of Floor Jansen (Yan-sen) requests, and she's stellar and perfect for the band. However, as you know, there's Tarja (Tar-ya) for this version (my first version as well was Tarja, album I would believe), and there is also Anette. Now, people love to hate on Anette because she can't do a lot of the songs that Floor or Tarja can do so well, and isn't the greatest live performer either. However, she has been on two of Nightwish's greatest albums (by shared opinion, not everyone's but it's a popular opinion) Dark Passion Play, and Imaginaerum. For me my favorite is the album Oceanborn from the Tarja era. Anyway, babbling aside, if you want a real Nightwish experience - react to something studio, and something that has never been played live in any era, or something that has never been played in anything but Anette's era. You're going to choose the Nightwish path, and that's fine, it's worth it, but just know that where reactions are concerned, you are allowed to have a choice of your own as well. Subs and viewers are not always right (mostly, but not always - of course I have to say that), and while Floor is what's best for the band as it is, you should try to be one of the first reactors to diversify - do some Floor, sure, but mix in everyone else, live, studio... everything. Don't worry about haters, I get them as well periodically, and don't ever let anyone tell you you did the wrong version of ANYTHING, let alone apologize to them for it - they're just fanatics who only like Nightwish for one specific era or another. I love them for all their eras, and if you diversify, you will too. They're a magical band, so enjoy the ride. If you should ever run out of requests (yea, as if LoL), here's a good one: Nightwish "Eva" studio version, Anette vocals. Beautiful song, sings to the heart - particularly the hopelessly romantic lonely ones LoL. Sorry for the babble. Subbed. Good video!

everyone knows Floor, she's super popular with everyone, especially right now, and is a really good singer, having a huge variety of singing capability (pop, classical/opera, belting, growling/raspy), able to sing nightwish's old songs that were for Tarja's classical/opera singing, as well as new songs for her own variety/range of singing abilities
Unfortunately for Annette, she's a pop/rock singer, and a very good singer too, but her pop/rock singing just didn't go that well with nightwish's music, which was made for Tarja's dark classical/opera singing. So, usually, she gets left out.
so, it comes down to "Targasm” (Tarja) vs “Floorgasm” (Floor) in terms of the Nightwish singers in who you like most, if you like classical/opera singing better, Tarja is better at it, but that's all she does while with nightwish, as nightwish was created for tarja's unique dark operatic singing/voice, (now with her own band, or solo, she does a greater range of singing), but she does it really well, she's really got a beautiful voice, if you like more pop singing, belting and growling/raspy, with or without classical/opera singing, than you like Floor better
I knew nightwish from the early 2000s, so Nightwish will always be with Tarja, but Nightwish with Floor is really good too, but it's Tarja, who's my favorite singer with nightwish

Try the Wacken version with Floor Jansen. In my opinion much better. Not that Tarja is a bad singer, on the contrary but this song fits Floor like a glove.

Tarja, you just head her, and Floor, are both great vocalists, quite different from each other. Tarja's vocals are operatic, Floor's vocals are versatile. In general I prefer Floor, but there are songs that are particularly suitable for Tarja's voice. Nightwish "The Phantom of the Opera" Helsinki 2005. Or her solo career performance "Supremacy", live in Woodstock Poland. Her outfits are beautiful, I don't know if classical is the word. Floor's too but in a different way.
Tarja and Floor are friends. Just about a week ago they had a chat for one hour on Instagram, I think, can be seen on YT.
I'm sure they would be sad to see and hear this fight about which one of them is better than the other.

In you NW journey, ignore some coments about who is best! The 3 singers has something to add, in different ways. Me, for example, I love Tarja because she gives some dark/goth vibe to her songs. You can do all of them and dont worry about some coments. I dont know why people can enjoy all of them! As I said, I love Tarja, but I see the good things about the others. I thing people who love Floor has to be a little more respect for the other singers ;) since most people are already doing Floor's versions! They could think a little bit more about Tarja's fans ;) because we don't show off on Floors reactions to complain about it. Anyway. Great reaction and tks again!

What is different between Tarjia's version and Floor's version, is Tarawa walks off the stage before the end of the song, while Floor extends the song ending with her patented Floorgasm.

Tarja changed her costume many times every concert, while Floor mainly does a single variation sometime in the middle. It's something to consider that they perhaps consciously extended the ending of the song to give Tarja a bit more time to change her clothes.

Listening to GLS sung by Tarja and Floor, it just seems that Tarja is late hitting the notes much of the time. She comes across as either lagging behind nad/or dragging the band down. So many comment that Nightwish as a group is "Tight". While I hear that in the band in the earlier years, not so with Tarja. Now I will give her that she might have done that for effect to contrast her operatic style with the band. Floor on the other hand hits the note, both in time and pitch, while also having the power to be heard over the volume of sound from the band. I get a kick out of old Nightwish fans that have only recently come back. Floor has indeed put NW back into the mix.

BTW, Tuomas wrote "The Poet and the Pendulum" after firing Tarja from the band That one will blow you away as well But you will be most impressed with Floor singing with her hero, Henk Poort the Dutch Phantom. He came on a TV show and did a heavy metal version of Phantom with Floor. Just epic stuff dude. Search it out.

Floor is more versatile and even more flawless, but Tarja is better in pure opera style. (Floor usually mixes styles, including operatic)
