Just thought I would add ... we used to use battery operated ‘spider scarers’ on our boat. Basically they emit a pulse or sound that humans can’t detect but bugs don’t like, have to say they worked very well!

Yes I have them but not on Trixie - however I also don’t have a bad spider problem on Trixie. On Independence I have been overrun by them

Hi Robin, was good to have a chin wag, I was the guy on Tempo who popped over for a chat. Was nice to meet you! Great to see another boat vlog, hope you get a chance to do some more soon.

Always nice to catch up with viewers. Hope you had a good break - things went down hill today weather wise! You seem to be an avid boater yourself so wish you all the best for future cruising.

Thanks Robin - always a great pleasure, and the first time I've been to Paddy's, albeit virtually.

Thank you for that Robin, great little vlog. I enjoyed the cruise to one of my favourite moorings (Padddy’s Lane). Hope you do some more videos in the coming days, 👍🙂

Awesome video as always, hope don’t mind me asking but how does the address work as live aboard at a boat yard for like car insurance and all that stuff? Do Boat yards just let you use there address?

    • @TheCaptainsBlog
      @TheCaptainsBlog  4 ปีที่แล้ว

In my case yes - the boatyard is my address both for paperwork and things like my local doctors. However this is by no means the norm and such is hard and rare to find on the Broads especially.

Hi Robin, looking to holiday on the broads next year but have a few questions that so far you tube has not managed to answer and I was wondering if you could, maybe make up a quick video as a reply which other newbies could use.
I think I know which boat type to hire, the lower the better so I don’t have bridge issues but things I am not sure about are 1) Fuel do you always have enough for 7 days, 2) How do you replenish your fresh water supply, 3) How secure are you when moored up at night from local thieves and chancers, 4) How many moorings are available in say the centre of Norwich for a day trip, 5) Are most mooring free and how difficult can it be to find an overnight mooring, 5) How is toilet waste removed is it at the end of the hire, 6) Can you run out of power are all boats run on solar, 7) Do you know of any mobile apps to help plan the distance and time
from AtoB, 8) Is there an essentials list of things to bring with you which the boat will not have.
    Any help would be appreciated

You’ve asked so much here. Gosh. Don’t worry about anything. It’s a holiday and thousands come and love it every year..
Water points are available at all yards and many moorings. Fill up daily. Fuel will last a fortnight or more but you may well use more than the paid for deposit covers. Then your have to pay extra on return of the boat for any fuel over and above the paid deposit. Some yards are all inclusive so this would not apply. You’re secure as you can be when moored but always lock boat and windows never leave valuables in show. There are about 20 moorings in Norwich it’s unlikely they never get all used. All moorings are free unless signed otherwise. Boats use the engine run Alternator to recharge the batteries. Ensure you run your engine for 5 hours a day to ensure you’ve put back what you took from the battery bank the previous evening.

i wish you could put a map up of were you are going on the water

They would involve too much work when editing the video. I just use my mobile phone now to record videos on but always mention where I am moored so you’re able to look up on map where such are. In this case was River Ant, Paddy’s Lane mooring.

hi Robin first of all may i start of by saying it was great to have a chat with you on the 9th oct at Richardson's, right spiders we had quite a few spiders on BROADSMAN over the 2 weeks we was on board her perhaps that was down to the wet weather and they was looking for somewhere to dry i don't know, our first spider we spotted was whilst we was moored in Richardson's on our first night, even walking along the windows outside looking for a way in, they weren't harming us, so we just let them walk around, we did find where they were getting in and it was where the canopy meets the windscreen because at the bottom there is a gap and that's where they got in and we couldn't stop them in any case

Your heaters not that noisy we were moored up behind you in bronze gem on Friday night

I love Bronze Gem. It’s nothing fancy but at night with curtains closed and telly on feels homely. Seat fabric is nice and the mid cabin is good too. Pleased the heater does not annoy. Hope you had a lovely holiday too.

You do like to go fast down our country lanes. Slow down a bit. What is the rush.

..You mean I drive to the speed limit unless there is reason to go slower, such as a junction or blind bend. I always drive at a speed that would allow me to stop within the distance I can see.
