The price of houses in Knoxville has gotten to be outrageously expensive in the last year or so. My own house I had built new in 2000 for $85,000 is now worth $175,000 and my other house where I currently live I bought in 2013 brand new for $179,000 is now worth $335,000. It's crazy.
The housing market is definitely rising like crazy! I don't think that it's unique to Knoxville. I have realtor friends all around the country and they're expressing the same. Thanks for your comment.

Since you wrote this, housing prices have only gotten higher. Plus, there's a severe housing shortage in the Knoxville area. Houses sell as soon as they're listed, and hundreds of new houses are currently being built for all the new people moving into the area. 1800 new houses have been built in west Knoxville in the last 18 months.
Comparisons with other cities of similar size in TN would be useful for anyone considering relocation to TN. Also, quality of healthcare in addition to cost would be an extremely important point of consideration.
If you live in TN and your new neighbor moves in from NY State, be sure to tell them to leave their fiscal policies in NY State. If not, they will vote for candidates and policies that didn't work in NY and ruined NY. That's why they move out of NY, but some of them can't understand that is the difference between NY and other states. I know because I live in NY State (but didn't vote for any of the NY junk).
