You can camp comfortably in very cold temperatures using regular cheap tents, if you use multiple tents inside of each other. I placed a 3-man tent inside of a 5-man tent inside of an 8-man tent. The multiple tent shells around you help insulate a lot. Outer tent stops wind, inner airspace between tents helps retain body heat too.
You should be able to do that inside a truck or large van, like a furniture removal size. I watched someone on YT sleeping overnight in one of those but he was just in a doona over a mattress. He froze all night and looked terrible the next day. I thought at the time I'd put a 2 person tent inside the van.... he would've been fine with that.
my biggest issue is always the condensation from the heat difference in my tent or bivy getting everything wet. Does the multiple tents help with that? I imagine it helps a little but for multiple nights out I have to stay DRY
@@Joeyfingis I'm with you there, the condensation sucks. I've found that putting a top layer of something waterproof or resistant over the sleeping bag helps unless you sweat alot in your sleep. We tarp off the picnic table pavilions in campgrounds and put the tent inside when hunting in fall and winter and it works great
You’re getting into serious survivalist territory by camping in absolutely lethal temperatures. I love it. Edit: I hope you stay safe on all your adventures. But I love these types of camping videos that are on what you might call “the edge of habitable”

Wondering if any of you non-Canadians know the Canadian spelling of "neighbor" is actually 'neighbour'*. I don't mean to offend anyone or be a grammar Nazi, I'm just genuinely curious.
For you Steve to have 1.19M subs, WITHOUT any sponsorship is testament to what you are. An absolute amazing guy, who is genuine and passionate about his content and more importantly to his viewers. My wish is to shake your hand. What an absolute incredible human being you are. 👍🏻
I miss your episodes with crazy neighbor. I like to go back and rewatch them, I forget sometimes how much fun he was. I hope I can be like that when I get to his age
Hey Steve and crazy neighbor. You guys are true legends when it comes to the outdoors and the freezing cold. What a fantastic job. Well done to you 👍🎄❄️☃️☺️👍
We went up into the Eastern Sierra for opening day trout fishing when I was a kid.... the dishcloth froze inside the trailer, and the water froze on the fishing line as we reeled in. After three days my mother was over ice cold wind whistling up under her in the pit toilet and we decamped for home. It started snowing on the road out. The people we were with were snowed in for five days. Glad you guys enjoyed yourselves!
you guys are hardcore. proper cold. england grinds to a halt with an inch of snow. my dad and i got stuck out in a snow storm one evening a few years back, when we saw all the increasing pile of cars build up at the bottom of a shallow hill on a country lane we decided we'd better park up somewhere safe away from all the moron drivers. slept in the car overnight in a pub car park and the next morning i had to beg a shovel off some workmen and dig two tracks out for our tyres to follow to get us back to the main road. we drove home and the daylight revealed all the carnage of the night before with hundreds of stuck vehicles.
I wanted to wish Steve and crazy neighbors and all of the great and wonderful subscribers a happy, safe and blessed Christmas. I truly appreciate you taking us along on your adventure.
I'm in Iowa where there's a blizzard warning for the weekend. Wind chills are -34 right now. Couldn't pay me enough to sleep in a tent during this weather. Thanks for your efforts to entertain us, guys. We appreciate it. Merry Christmas to you all. See you next year.
My 3 cats are doing fine in their tent rapped around a box stuffed with bedding right now. Wind chill is near that -34 in Indiana. Enough insulation and wind blocking material and they do just fine all cuddled up.
Steve and Crazy Neighbor, thanks for the Very cold adventure! Entertaining and I learned a lot. I grew up in central Iowa, now in central Georgia. Amazing weather here. May get down to the mid teens here with this arctic blast. Verry cold for central Georgia. Ahhh a taste of winter in the plains. Take care, stay safe, Merry Christmas!!!
Its funny how someone you never met can have an effect on you... Here I am several months later and every time I watch a video with (The GOAT) Crazy Neighbor, I somehow feel grief. What a man, I hope he may forever rest in peace. Much respect to you Steve, and my condolences for all your losses. Sending love.
This was my absolute favourite episode in a long time, it makes me infinitely happy to see Steve back to his happy self again and having crazy neighbour to be there for him and keep his mind busy and keeping him company 🖤 we love you guys man, I always have my own version of a step two (shots of rum) along with you. I am from Nova Scotia after all. Haha

I just want to give a shout out to Crazy Neighbor of helping you through these hard days right now. I'm sure being alone during camping right now still may be hard, so glad to see you've got help getting through these times. Things will get better, it won't feel this way forever. Happy Holidays to all the great souls you've brought together Steve!
I love this channel more than any of the other outdoor ones. Steve is so real and doesn't have all the gear that is out of my budget. He's doing it like all of us would. A great example is that second shovel they have to clear snow.....I use that for moving dirt all summer long and shovelling in the winter. I also love the cooking from the Mr. Heater, so cool.
I used to follow a lot of TH-camr vanlifers and campers through COVID. At the end of the day I've stuck with Steve for outdoor/stealth camping, and Foresty Forest for van life. As you say they keep it real.
It's dropped to a chilly +50-58F outside and I'm using down pants, two jackets, a hat and down slippers over other warm socks inside. I've also used a Mr. Heater Buddy. Steve and CN are wearing less insulation at -29F outside. Omg, how are you two managing? Wow, 68F inside, that's impressive! 🎉 I could manage that. Amazing tent and heater. ❤
I’m sure a lot of us remember when you bought the acreage and you mentioned about future camping adventures there. It’s nice seeing you do that now in the last couple of videos with the treehouse and now this one. It’s been a tough time for you but pretty much every one who follows you are with you in spirit and wish you nothing but the best. For what it’s worth, Merry Christmas to you and CN, mate. Stay strong and stay close to family and friends who will be there for you. Cheers.
For those of you who are new to this strange corner of TH-cam, welcome! A few pieces of info you need to know: 1. Yes, Steve is always like this. 2. Yes, so is Crazy Neighbor. 3. Yes, he always cooks enough for 10. 4. Do not feel ashamed if you find yourself binging his episodes. We all have. 5. His comment section is awesome and is 99% positive. Please keep it that way.
Steve, your videos give me the same satisfaction that watching old Norm Macdonald clips gives me. Keep doing it if you enjoy it, man. You produce good work. You always seem to say "nothing happens" in your videos, but people come here for you. You're great on camera and have a natural sense of charm. Shoutout to when you and crazy neighbor made a beat for like 5 straight minutes in the abandoned power plant video. I laughed so damned hard.
I swear Steve is much more talkative and in good spirits here than I remember him ever really being. He likes to go into details about things whereas before he would keep things short and simple. I'm glad to see he's doing well...
It's probably a coping mechanism. I do the same, keep myself busy and open up more to people to keep my mind occupied. It's the slow times when you are alone that you can't stop thinking about the loss you are going through.
Well yeah he is a millionaire now and is making more money than anybody could ever dream of by just posting blogs of the life he already has been living for a long time who wouldn’t be extremely happy and excited all the time compared to when he was just living in his car in the middle of nowhere making no money
Hey Steve been watching your videos forever and it broke my heart about your wife..that I actually had to stop watching for a while. My mom passed away in her sleep February 27 of 21. It was out of nowhere, I found her passed away in bed. Luckily she just looked like she was still sleeping. It just breaks me man that you had to go through that. My mom was 69 and her birthday was just a few weeks before, I'm 42 and was at her house because was laid off because of covid. She had a enlarged heart that she never saw a doctor for. I just want to tell you. That in time things will somewhat get normal but you will always miss that loved one. The first year when you look back will be a blur. I'm on my 2nd year and still thinking of her everyday and what she said the night before. Stay strong bud. Holidays are always the hardest.
Not really spending the holidays this year with any of my loved ones, but the fact that you're out there plugging away and posting videos makes me happy! Much love Steve and Crazy Neighbor! Merry Christmas, and a safe new year!
Same , just gonna be home watching you tube , it's minus 7 degrees fahrenheit here and it will last for days ..winter sucks ..idk why they'd purposefully do this .
The cold weather normal camping videos are the ones that made me love you and your channel Steve. I need to wait until I get home to watch this one with the wife (she gets angry if I watch without her). Love you buddy.
Steve, you're an inspiration all unto yourself. Watching you and Crazy Neighbor makes me wanna take a road trip from the swamps of Louisiana to the tundras you two boys get to play in up in Canada. Y'all keep being awesome!

It’s 25F here in San Antonio Texas and these winter videos really help. The cold is quite disappointing without the beautiful snow. Im an Iowan/Mainer that moved south for the sunshine. I miss the crunch of snow and how it dampens other sounds around it. Got my sweatshirt and sticker!!! Lov’n it. Peace be with you!
Salute to you for staying strong through the misery and pain you’ve recently felt, to still do what you do for your TH-cam fans. God Bless you brother!!!
Just wanted to say thank you, Steve!! These videos are always the best part of the week, and I really like seeing your adventures! Always extra special when Crazy Neighbor comes along for the journey! I always hated doing cold-weather camping when I was a boy scout, but watching you brave the sub-zero temps while I'm cozy indoors is great!!
Glad to see the old ice fishing tent return to the channel. And of course, always cool to see the cooking portion of the video. So thanks as always for the relaxing fun!
Steve this was very educational because I learned alot about propane just now. Thanks again and hoping you are well and Hoping for a better New Year for you
The other thing that can and will happen is as that propane boils off, the temperature in that tank is going to drop. This happens for two reasons: 1) evaporation takes energy, similar to when you sweat, when something evaporates it’s going to wick heat away from whatever is next to it, which is nearby liquid propane. 2) you’re losing mass content out of that tank, that mass contains heat. When you lose some of the mass, you’re also losing some of the heat (the total energy in the tank). The tank then reduces in pressure (and thus density) so that same mass of remaining propane takes up a larger area, and as such it’s going to drop in temperature. Used to do a lot of work with propane tanks in VT. Often bury them there so they’re not absolutely freezing in the deepest of winter cold. Definitely important to keep that propane in a state where it can evaporate! 😎
I absolutely loved the video, and I’m so happy to get to hang out with Steve and Crazy Neighbor this week. Thank you guys for pushing through difficult times and helping us subscribers who appreciate the videos so much ❤
Put a 1 pound propane bottle in your jacket and warm it up - use that to start the buddy heater to warm the large propane bottle and then exchange sources
People highly highly highly highly highly highly underestimate how effective a Mr. buddy heater is and how little propane that uses well also creating immense amount of heat. I warmed up a very large size RV in -10° weather with no insulation on the windows or anything so hot it would make me sweat the entire winter for only 50 bucks of propane a month and a 20 gallon tank or 20 pound tank should last you a month ish. In a small tent like that he can just get a little buddy heater and use half of the propane so probably a 20 pound propane tank would last you 2 1/2 months
@@MobileAura Would you get condensation on the ceilings and windows? Just curious as I thought propane is pretty "moist" heat. And good to know at any rate.
@@MobileAura I would think a tent give away more heat then a RV? Didn't he say that his Mr Heater would have lastet for 24 hrs on the tank he got? I assume you would use more propane in a tent in -30 Celsius then in a RV in -10.
So glad to see a smile on your face, Steve. Best of wishes to you during the holidays and stay warm and safe! At least as warm and safe as you can get in -40° 😄

@@Joeyfingis Wool. That’s the only way to stay warm when wet. It doesn’t keep you dry necessarily, it just doesn’t leech heat when you get damp.
Intense weather
@@Joeyfingis I'm with you there, the condensation sucks. I've found that putting a top layer of something waterproof or resistant over the sleeping bag helps unless you sweat alot in your sleep. We tarp off the picnic table pavilions in campgrounds and put the tent inside when hunting in fall and winter and it works great
You’re getting into serious survivalist territory by camping in absolutely lethal temperatures. I love it.
Edit: I hope you stay safe on all your adventures. But I love these types of camping videos that are on what you might call “the edge of habitable”
Thanks for taking us along for the ride Steve! I hope you continue to do well in 2023!
Makes me really happy to see Mr. Steve and Crazy Neighbor out doing what made me fall in love this channel to begin with. I know things have been really rough lately, Steve, but you have touched the lives of millions of us one way friends and I can’t tell you how much it means to us to see you keep on keeping on. Merry Christmas from your one way friends down in Colorado! Time for a step two! 🍻
Glad to see you back Steve! Hope you are well and looks like you and Crazy Neighbor had a great time.
Im so glad CN has been such a wonderful support to Steve!!! Many adventures ahead for these two wonderful gentlemen

Wondering if any of you non-Canadians know the Canadian spelling of "neighbor" is actually 'neighbour'*. I don't mean to offend anyone or be a grammar Nazi, I'm just genuinely curious.
As I prepare for my next long-distance trip, there is nothing I look forward to more than a new camping with Steve video
I always love your vids with Crazy Neighbor! Thanks for uploading them! Merry Christmas, Steve. 🎄🍻
They make a good team and Crazy nabor is the sort of friend that most men wish for, and so is Steve.
@@HOLLASOUNDS what a sad truth that is
Damn. Now Crazy Neighbour is diagnosed with a terminal illness. Life comes at you fast, make sure you treasure every moment with those you care about
RIP
For you Steve to have 1.19M subs, WITHOUT any sponsorship is testament to what you are. An absolute amazing guy, who is genuine and passionate about his content and more importantly to his viewers. My wish is to shake your hand. What an absolute incredible human being you are. 👍🏻
The entire video was an ad, what are you talking about ?
He definitely works for higher ups
I miss your episodes with crazy neighbor. I like to go back and rewatch them, I forget sometimes how much fun he was. I hope I can be like that when I get to his age
Hey Steve and crazy neighbor. You guys are true legends when it comes to the outdoors and the freezing cold. What a fantastic job. Well done to you 👍🎄❄️☃️☺️👍
Man Steve. I love all you do my friend. I hope you have a great Christmas sir. Thank you for being an absolute legend.
I am thankful for another Camping with Steve video this holiday season.
Christmas season*
We are so happy to see you back Steve. Crazy neighbour supporting you. He's a really nice guy and good friend .
It is arriving here in Indiana right now. Frankly, I wouldn't have minded if you would have kept it there.
I'm in Iowa too thinking the same thing!!
My 3 cats are doing fine in their tent rapped around a box stuffed with bedding right now. Wind chill is near that -34 in Indiana. Enough insulation and wind blocking material and they do just fine all cuddled up.
Same here in ohio. Not as cold, they figure -1f. Raining and mild right now feels like it's in the 40s
Haha
Steve, it's so good seeing you back. You and crazy neghbour are an awesome pair for camping and crazy adventures. Merry Christmas to you both.
My two authentic friends. Classic camping with Steve & crazy neighbor heating a gas tank. Love you guys & so good to see you.
love crazy neighbors laugh lol. he sounds genuine and fun. guarantee hes got some unbelievable stories tucked away for only him to enjoy and reminisce on.
My day got a little brighter when I saw that there's a new Steve video. Sending love from the States!
I came to watch Steve freeze and instead learned about the problems of using propane heat in -40. Thanks for the education Steve!
So glad to see you back buddy! I love the insulated tent camps! Hope your doing well, happy holidays from your favorite fans 💞

This kinda looks like a cut and paste comment.
Cheers.
People really do love you Steve, just look at the numbers you generate. Very down to earth guy on an adventure. Great video!
Your a inspiration to me and gave me courage to camp again
For those of you who are new to this strange corner of TH-cam, welcome! A few pieces of info you need to know:
You’re an inspiration Steve. For more than just camping.
Wait, what’s this an extra video? Thank you Steve you just made my whole weekend. I love it.
This might be one of the most elaborate meals you have ever made on a camping trip and I love it
Not really spending the holidays this year with any of my loved ones, but the fact that you're out there plugging away and posting videos makes me happy!
"Just a small meal for two." Proceeds to cook enough for six. That's Camping with Steve!
You burn alot of calories in below freezing temps
I love the way your videos make me feel. Thank you Steve. I know you've been through a lot lately and its so good to see you doing what you love!
Steve & Crazy Neighbor are always so fun to watch no matter the adventures they have. 👌
You know it's cold when your beard starts to freeze! Thanks for another awesome video! Merry Christmas Steve, family and friends.
Cheers from Oklahoma
Always a great video when crazy neighbors joins Steven on his wild camping ideas
There's nothing like a Camping With Steve video.
I'm looking forward to seeing what new adventures you bring to us in the New Year.
Man, what an absolute solider. -38 and he's still out there making us smile. Thank you Steve and Crazy Neighbor.
Steve, you're an inspiration all unto yourself. Watching you and Crazy Neighbor makes me wanna take a road trip from the swamps of Louisiana to the tundras you two boys get to play in up in Canada. Y'all keep being awesome!
Steve, we love you and love "Crazy Neighbor!" We support you. You are family to us. So glad you're back!
Literally feels like Christmas morning every Thursday when an episode is posted. Thank you both for your hard work and providing this entertainment. Merry Christmas
Crazy Neighbor seems like such a nice guy. So glad he's here, wishing him health and happiness. 👍
Cheers from north texas! Hunkering down right with ya!
That wind is going to get a lot of us! Everyone stay warm 🤙🏽 glad to see another video drop Steve 🤘🏽
Glad to see the old ice fishing tent return to the channel. And of course, always cool to see the cooking portion of the video. So thanks as always for the relaxing fun!
Rest in Peace Crazy Neighbor!
Great to see you two out there glamping in the cold. Cooking on the buddy heater like that is nothing less than genius. Thanks Steve and CN.
Steve this was very educational because I learned alot about propane just now. Thanks again and hoping you are well and Hoping for a better New Year for you
We thougt we had purchased the filter, but we can't find it, so very timely reminder in these times.
The other thing that can and will happen is as that propane boils off, the temperature in that tank is going to drop.
This happens for two reasons:
1) evaporation takes energy, similar to when you sweat, when something evaporates it’s going to wick heat away from whatever is next to it, which is nearby liquid propane.
@@rabidlenny7221 Thanks for the knowledge 👊

that's because it is balmy. 🤣
@@Belibra14ot for over here it’s not mate it’s bloody freezing
Put a 1 pound propane bottle in your jacket and warm it up - use that to start the buddy heater to warm the large propane bottle and then exchange sources
@@skinnflint are you going to live forever?
@@skinnflint if I get to 85 that's enough
You two bring me so much joy!! Merry Christmas and wishing you guys the best 🤙
So glad to see a smile on your face, Steve. Best of wishes to you during the holidays and stay warm and safe!
At least as warm and safe as you can get in -40° 😄
Stealth watching for years now. My heart is broken that Beautiful Wife is not by your side. You inspire SO many Steve and Crazy Neighbor. Honor and respect.
