Since I was too young for the likes Bergkamp and Riquelme, Ozil is the best pure playmaker I’ve ever seen. And now that there is less freedom/self-expression at the highest levels of football, he is one of the last of a dying breed, among Thiago, James, etc.
Ozil was a wonderful player, especially at Madrid, he was a wonderfully elegant player and ppl forget how hard he worked in his earlier days, he was deceptively quick and had a fantastic engine to go with the incredible ball playing skills. He wasn't quite the same player at Arsenal, but still one of the best Ive seen in terms of vision and playmaking ability. But as someone who watched Bergkamp right through his Arsenal career I can say as good as Ozil's vision and execution for a pass Dennis was even better. Bergkamp wasn't a pure no10, but rather a forward who would drop into the 10 space because he understood the speed and movement of the players around him and that he was the absolute best to feed those players and create goal scoring opportunities. One of the main reasons Henry scored so many goals is because you had Dennis feeding him inch perfectly timed through balls and no one could catch Henry, it was a match made in heaven.
Man ozil deserved so much better from Arsenal, him and sanchez were the reason I started watching arsenal again. We played such good football then. I’m glad tho arteta has got us to playing like it again
The never ending evolution of football has made the #10s obsolete and Özil was the victim of this. On his day especially at Madrid he was the best #10 in the world and nobody to rival him, not even De Bruyne and James. His move to Arsenal was a mixed bag. On one hand he ended Arsenal's silverware drought and made 19 Premier League assists in the 15/16 season. On the other hand as the game evolved he couldn't adapt to the changes and he was a liability and he isn't the only one. James and Mata shared the same fate as Özil and fell behind. De Bruyne, Modric, Kroos, David Silva, Bernardo Silva, Goretzka, Odergaard, Eriksen and Maddison adapted to the changes. We'll never be another player like Özil in today's game with his passing, vision and incredible technical ability. Those players are almost non existent.
@@LukeMiles-kh1zs not true. He was the clubs highest earner with 0 output. Same thing that happened to him happened to Mustafi and Sokratis and even Aubameyang a season later. That’s not politics, that’s the reality of top level football.
I really hate how most coaches nowadays force players to play in a way that benefits their tactics and philosophy. Of course, coaches are allowed to build squads and a style of play. But when you have world class players at your disposal, it's a no brainer you must build around that players strengths.
I still don't understand why people dislike his attitude. On the pitch it seemed like a quiet dude. Was it just that he was unhappy he needed to change?
He would get frustrated and just give up. Look at his game against Bayern in the CL some years back. He missed a pen and after that it was like being a man down. He’d get caught in a triangle and literally throw his hands in the air and strop around like that doesn’t happen all the time in football, then get subbed and throw a tantrum
Özil wasted his prime years at Arsenal. They never had t he ambition to build a title winning team. 15/16 was Özil’s best season in the Prem but the team around him was so mediocre.
You didn’t watch Arsenal. 15/16 they should’ve won and didn’t and during those ‘best years’ only two players were voted arsenals POTY twice. Sanchez and Ramsey. Secondly don’t forget that without Cazorla and coquelin in support Özils weaknesses were exposed. How can you say the team around him were so mediocre when he was so dependent on the rest of them? It was never a one man show.
Did you not watch the video? He has the record for most chances created in a premier league season…after leading la liga in assist for 3 years 🤦🏻♂️. Don’t disrespect Özil

Odegaard is basically Ozil 2.0
@@tc98826wouldn’t say he’s an özil 2.0, more of an özil lite

Nah, he got what he deserved. And we don’t play like we did back then either.
When Real Madrid signed James Rodriguez in 2014 I was like Ozil is better and u sold him last year 🤷🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️
Exactly, Madrid with Di Maria, Ozil, Ronaldo, Benzema, Higuain, Guti were one of the best attack the last decade, but of course Perez had to ruin it
@@Kal-el087how’d he ruin it? They won 4 CL’s 😂
You know Perez😂 he was still doing his Galactico signing project
unfortunately in germany he never was appreciated as he should have been. great guy and fantastic footballer
There will never be a player as elegent as ozil
In modern football , no matter how good a playmaker or finisher you are , you have to press
And that's not a bad thing.

Only three seasons at RM? Felt longer than that lol

The most underrated baller of current football history. Deserved to be in this current Arsenal team.
how did you not mention the politics that forced him out of arsenal? Yes he didn’t adapt to the game but that’s not the full story.
That’s a myth.

Understand this. Before the death of pure #10 role. De Bruyne didn't shine as bright as Ozil when Ozil was still playing in a much worse team.
