My Demon 170 IS BACK!! Brand NEW ENGINE. Now what do I do?

- My Demon 170 is now back after having a brand-new engine installed. I still have some very significant questions for Stellantis regarding break-in procedures; however, the car is back in my possession and appears to be healthy once again. Stellantis and my dealership did a fantastic job of getting the engine installed in short order and now I need to work to ensure that the new engine is happy prior to taking it to the track.

Don't forget you get 3x entries using my code (RacerX) on any of their giveaways. Good Luck Everyone!
It is a raffle not a giveaway.
Please stop torturing your demon 170. Especially with that new engine block . At least make sure it's race ready before racing it.
Did buy a ton of entries for the 18 Demon, it's my bar-none dream car. Hopefully I can snag it!
Change the oil before tracking it and send a sample to
SPEEDiagnostix. Then change after the first track and have that analyzed to see if anything happened after it was raced. You only need to do that a couple of times to see how the engine is handling the pressure. Cheap insurance to know how it's breaking in under race conditions.
Dodge CEO Tim Kuniskis is retiring after 30 years of service to the brand.
Wow, this whole ownership experience sounds like the exact opposite of fun.
yea ik 😂
There is some fun to it. I mean he is driving it for the car's intended purpose. Most people who buy this far will just garage it. Racer X is actually racing his and pushing it to the limit. That's got to be fun.
Not true. Nick from the Mail Room was demoted to Janitor but he's still here/their?
@@christopherscott8272 Stellantis probably thought everyone would just garage it and not race it. That why the vagueness of the oil change instructions and the engine eating itself from the inside.
“I need a lot more answers from the folks at Stellantis” Who’s left to ask? Engineers are gone. Factory workers are gone. Even the CEO got fired.
I didn't know retiring is getting fired. crazy
@@xxRAMMSTEINxFANxxapparently you’ve never worked in corporate America. He was told to go away please. Pair that with the fact that there’s been friction between him and Tavares anyway, no brainer. But he was definitely fired unofficially. We all know it.
@@xxRAMMSTEINxFANxxi was put on furlough instead of getting fired. Same thing. There are ways to get fired without being directly fired.
@@xxRAMMSTEINxFANxxeverything is very PC nice these days. There are positive words to describe a negative word or situation.
He was likely given a Golden Parachute like most CEOs these days✌️😁☯️
I would ask the tech if he checked the spark plug gaps and the torque on the crank balancer bolt. I would also take it back to the dealer after 500 miles and have them check it out again for any codes, loose bolts, fluid checks. Cut the oil filer open after you change it and look for any metal.
They'll do all of that....unless your warranty is close to its expiration...
He mentioned the spark plug gap in the video.
He’s not a beginner homie lol, he’s been drag racing cars on TH-cam for like the past 10 years
That front facing sump oil pan design is always going to be the fly in the ointment for something that accelerates this hard. I don't think all the oil changes in the universe will change that.
Congrats on getting your baby back
Baby POS YOU GOT SCREWED. JUNK Fiat
Just think, if you have problems with the new engine, you can reach out to Tim Kuniskis...oh wait!
Without a dry sump oiling system, expect lots of oiling problems when racing...
So happy life is great for you . I’m stuck here in California having to sell my challenger RT just to stay afloat due to inflation.
Feel for y'all out there. Had family in SoCal and they've all left. UT, AZ, TX, CO, and MI now.

Racer X few questions you should ask Stellantis:
1) Why do these cars come from the factory with 8 quarts of oil, they are 1 quart overfilled according to the manual.
2) They say to change the oil after every race event. So if you make 5 passes at a race you need to change the oil? What happens if you are driving on the street and doing WOT pulls, do you need to change the oil when you come home. The manual says oil change at 3,000 miles or 6 months whichever comes first. I agree that with E85 the oil should be changed more frequently, however after 5 pulls or so is nonsense. If driving on the street you should be able to run 1,500 miles before doing an oil change. They make a race car for the street yet they are very vague on the details to maintain it. Someone could drive it hard on the street and not go to the racetrack, this is a Gray area when would that person need to change the oil after every outing?
3) Why are the Champion plugs not available, what is the replacement they use, Bosch?
Glad you got it back finally! Enjoy and i hope we get to see more vidz of you in that beast.
Happy you got your car back. Good luck X!
Congrats on getting her back!
Congratulations on getting your Demon 170 back. The smile on your face tells the whole story on how happy you are right now. Hope everything goes well and can't wait to see more videos on the Demon 170.
Congrats on getting the 170 back!
congrats on getting your car back. i know it must feel great! i'm hyped for you racerX!!
Glad you're back in the game bro.
Congrats on getting the Challenger back so quickly!
Congrats Racer X! It will be a great weekend indeed! 😁
Glad you got it back. Keep it clean x
What to do? Git on that drag strip, of course! :) Good to see you're back in action!
Happy Day, Congratulations on getting the new engine in and it’s ready to roll. Enjoy it.
Brother, I was FULLY in the camp of keeping the 170 no matter what the naysayers had to say until Tim Kuniskis bailed. Really doesn't matter if it was his call, Stellantis's, or mutual, he's gone. The number one top dog backing the Demon is out of the picture. Now, I am definitely in the camp that you should go with a Last Call Hellcat before those are gone. I can take my '16 Hellcat to any dealer and they seem to know what to do with it and have stood behind it. I know the Demon is faster but the Hellcat is a car that dealers have seen and will be able to understand and work on.
Plus you could do 57 different videos on getting Direct Connection stage work done on that Hellcat.
Good Luck X look forward to seeing you succeed….great vid as always
I'm sure the tech already broke it in😂
Congrats...hopefully ur all good now...✌️
Congrads, back on the road.
Glad to see u got it back hope u get lots of miles and races in that thing it’s awesome
Great job!! Best wishes on the new/improved journey: "And....here we go!!!!"😊
I could hardly wait to see you back on the drag strip X
Do what I did to my 170. Build a better short block and build a dry sump oil system. If not, you’re going to continue eating engines…. Because the 170 short block is SHIT…
Yea it's a shame you had to do all that
Happy for you getting that beast home! When you said you were heading to the track I got excited. I'm betting once you break it in it will be faster than before.
Great to see you back in the 170!
Glad you got it back.
Excited to see what it will do.
Glad to see you got your 170 back.
Just wanted to say I've been watching your vids for a while and finally subscribed, love all the content super informative and great to watch! I'm not necessarily a muscle car guy either (my toy is a big turbo 2021 VW GTI) but I still enjoy watching and learning, keep it up!
Congratulations to have it back 👍
Glad you got it back looking forward to more videos with it and possibly seeing it next to the plum crazy Challenger
Congratulations on getting that beast back.
Congrats🎉🎉🎉🎉 on getting your demon back sounds awesome 👍👍
Congrats brother!! Looking forward to some more 🔥 videos
Good luck on the new engine
Congratulations on getting back your demon break it in and enjoy
Congrats!
Glad to see you have your car back.
GOOD LUCK HOPE IT GOES WELL
Good to hear hope it works out
Happy for you Dude
What's a break-in just keep sending it, no but serious you are doing it correct, and getting extra instructions
from the manufacture is always good idea, hope all goes great with no more problems, great to see you back
in the Demon 170.
Man that's one heck of an engine, can't wait to see it back at the track! 👌
Get your warranty work done while you can. Before they go bust.
Congratulations on being reunited with the 170 ! That break-in period is kinda tough. Maybe take it & the missus on a leisurely weekend trip ro help get through it ?
Looking forward to updates and new content !
Congrats RacerX! Cheers Brother!🍻
Congrats, happy for you. Can only imagine how you felt when it went bad.
Congrats RacerX!
Good to see the 170 back on the road.
I would highly recommend using rosella t6 5w40 as well as I would change the oil before every track day and possibly after as well. We build engines and race them over here at MPR and that's how we keep them running great. Yes break in with 93 as well. E85 won't hurt it while breaking in the 93 will get the piston rings hotter and break in faster

Congrats young man 👍👍👍
Great to hear , good luck and have 👍👍
Awesome u got it back...
So good to see the engine back and running and I'm sure you're enjoying the heck out of it I am looking forward to getting my 440 back on the road 69 charger after I get my rear seal put back in leaking like r mad
Congrats Brudda!
Congratulations. Now go enjoy it.
Thank you for the video!
Telling people you're heading to the strip for the some WOT passes is hilarious! :) Fingers crossed for your new engine!
congratulations RacerX on getting your car back. Looks like they did a fantastic job. I have a question on the initial start up on my Demon 170 the engine RPM is extremely high. Do you think that could have any type of detrimental effect to the engine specially, being cold on Rod and main bearings, premature engine failure just was wondering if your car does the same great video. Congrats on your new engine.
Enjoy the daylights out of that car! Glad you're back!
Nice! Another break in period, Dang
Good luck to you RacerX. Hope it works out for you.
If ever want to sell, im willing to buy it, as ive been wanting one for a long time.
But i really hope it works for you because love your channel & and you're just a really honest, cool guy.
Would be nice to see a new Z06 vette on channel at some point would be cool 😎
I enjoy your content keep it up!
Good to see you got your precious back 👍😁
He should drain the oil after his first pass, and show it to the viewers.
Awesome brother, great news. 👍
Love your 170 !
Good luck. I would sell it, no way they are replacing a second engine no matter what happens.
You knowwww it’s gonna need another engine in less than 2000 miles again
Looks great....you need to change the routing of your oil catch can hose😊
Have the oil tested after you race it to see how things are breaking in. Good luck!
This guy is good people
Do not get rid of the 170. All vehicles have growing pains in one form or another. Work through the issues and address them the best way you can. Us viewers will appreciate the content.
8:21 my exact thoughts were “ this guys about to blow his engine” 😂😂 you got me with that
So happy for you X, now sell it or wrap it in plastic and lets see the next amazing vehicle for the channel😉hoping Dodge takes care of every 170 owner with a similar scenario like they did here!
🎉 congratulations
Perfect questions. I'm very curious about those the answers as well.
Hi Glad that they replaced your engine. The problem is the oiling system. Under extreme acceleration the oil does not lubricate the entire engine. If you push the car again
it will fail. Its a fun car to race around on the street and enjoy the status of a 1000 horsepower. Like top fuel all race cars need tons of maintenance. Oh by the way. Leave on the yellow it will shave off half a second. When I raced my reaction time was 2/10th of a second. Be careful and have fun
Reaction time has nothing to do with elapsed time, ffs.
Fuel contamination blowby into the crankcase oil? Change oil early and often. Let us know what the oil labs show as you get them.
This series makes me feel like I own a 170 too
Break it in and enjoy it X.
Thicker oil sounds like a good idea
Most of the time the problem supercharger. It goes bad, putting all the metal inside. Glad you got it back.
Congrats on the new engine!
What to do next? How about a value play? Challenger RT. Or Corvette C4/C5.
Dont let any of the comments saying sell it get to you man i know you got the demon 170 to use it not sell it i have no doubts you will be back at the strip soon if you enjoy the car that's all that matters. Keep up the great content and congrats on getting that beast back.
It’s a cool car but it’s just not performing like claimed and already a bit boring of a car to see all the time. They are just over done at this point
@OleSevers we get it you hate dodge and don't want anyone to own them. But I personally could care less I'll own what I like and won't let what anyone thinks dictate my choices in fact if I can get on someone's nerves it makes me want to do it all the more. Just keep the hate to yourself there is enough bs in this world.
I’m really surprised they put base model seats these I figured they would have really nice seats like it’s a special car
I put base seats in the car because I have special seats coming
Good
Go race buddy
Nice license plate 🏁
You have been through so much.. hopefully it'll be good this time
I don’t know how a 1000 hp ESS Mustang GT last longer than a factory built race car at the track. Dodge needs to get it together.
Stellantis doesn’t care, Dodge is done for.
Paul I’m sure you’re very much aware of several of the other 170 owners that are having major engine failures. It’s ultimately your decision but this should be alarming. As far as reaching out to Stellantis for insight on what to do as far break-in, type of oil to use or octane I would get guidance from a reputable race shop. Stellantis has never designed and built anything remotely close to the Demon 170 so none of them would be a good choice for asking what should be done in terms of maintenance an break-in. When I had my 22’ WBHC I ran Pengrade and it was changed every 2,500 miles. I never tracked the car but I did have my fun but there was problem after problem so I said goodbye I went to Ford. If you plan to keep the car I’d definitely put gesi cats on it as well before the factory cats clog or melt. I’m glad you got your baby back and best of luck but I’d be consulting some pros at a high performance shop for advice on that thing.
@@Johnathon_Jackson good advice...but without a dry-sump oiling system these engines are destined for failure under repeated hard launch conditions. ..
@@jeffrey501green agree 100% if the owners are gonna use it in a racing application. Most aren’t though but Paul should definitely take it HHP or MMX to have it converted to a dry sump system unless there is a shop closer to him that specializes in MOPAR. With the non numbers matching motor in it the thing has lost its collectors value so he should definitely pull the trigger on gesi cats or none at all as well dry sump.
@@Johnathon_Jacksonthe problem with that is you speak with non factory specialist such as professional engine builders/speed shops, and then, you have another issue with the engine take it back to dodge then they can say well you made modifications that are beyond the scope of our warranty, even if the new issue has nothing to do with the previous problems, that's why he's wants follow their guidelines and instructions to the letter, my point is you don't want to give them a reason to back out of a warranty, based on something he did or didn't do... but basically I'd be leary tracking the car again . 10:59
Sparkle Hemi , with a metallic paint job , so shiny ? Even the oil sparkles
I can't recommend selling it enough man lol. But if you happy you happy and i wish you nothing but the best with it
I think if you spend the day at the track . Then do a oil change . I’m happy your 170 is back . 🇺🇸
Is that black on the roof considered matte black? Looks so good with the red. Just wondering because I have an 04 red mustang and I was thinking about doing something similar.
Nice video RacerX and I am happy for YOU that the new engine will make YOUR summer of 2024 great!!! About the gas, here in Tennessee I got a station selling 93-octane ethanol free that I been putting into my 2021 Dodge Charger R/T Plus. This week I had my Charger in at the local Dodge dealer for an oil change and was talking to the service representative about what gas the engine needs for best performance. He advised me to use a lower grade of gas and NOT use the 93-octane grade as it was not needed. So, you will be putting 93-octane into your Demon 170 as YOUR engine has more HP, but I feel that for my Charger I will still use 93-octane ethanol free for best performance. Can anyone who knows about this issue tell me what grade of gas you can use or should be using for the 5.7-liter hemi engines? Also, I was informed about the security of the Charger to consider having the LoJack system put into the car for the unlikely event that the car gets stolen from me. YOUR Demon 170 will be a magnet for car thieves RacerX and for the price of that car the LoJack should be included along with the monitoring. While at the dealer waiting for my oil change I looked at some newer Chargers and they did NOT excite me as I felt that my current car is better than what they had except for the two cars that had the bigger engine. Is a 6.4 liter engine really need for driving unless you are racing the car at the track? The cost of insurance, cost of taxes must be high for such a car. Good luck with YOUR Demon 170!
In my mind this is the baddest street car of all time but then again I grew up in late '70s and '80s with Duster 340 high compression, headers, stick shift. Bolt ons you would call it, pretty fast and dependable. Parts were cheap back then too. I'm looking forward to your experiences with the Demon.
