As a consultant that got into consulting because of a video you made over a year ago, I appreciate your insight/explanation. It's crazy that people would rather comment nonsense than do a simple google search to understand better.
A lot of people don’t realize how competitive it is to become a MC. You need to come from top tier schools with top tier grades having exceptional analytical and problem solving skills with the ability to crush case interviews under pressure, while being able to beat out others with the same qualities. It’s an elite job and a lot of smart people (myself included) won’t achieve it. I’ve tried, but couldn’t beat out the geniuses next to me; I got lazy and went the finance route, but now in tech. ;) Respect and kudos to those who got in. It’s a great job to learn a lot and opens so many opportunities to pivot from.
Appreciate your comment, thank you so much! You described the process of getting the job perfectly haha and hey congrats on the shift to tech, I hope you're enjoying it!!

Probably my favorite consulting video I've seen on TH-cam. The company I currently work for also has a green and sustainable business goal, and recently announced switching all company cars to Hybrid in the US, as the next best step towards going fully electric, it almost sounds like what you worked on. I've been consulting for CPG for 12 years now but in roles within the specific companies. I recently applied at Mckinsey, inspired by an old co worker, but I'm also looking at all MBB, including Deloitte. Mainly to get exposure on different business dynamics and industries. Ive been in MC for over 30 years (Partner in a well known company) I guess it is a tough life but there are amazing rewards in terms of not just working across the globe but as I've got older I've spent more time making a proper difference in the companies and places I've worked in, in the context of ESG and DEI, inequity etc. When younger I never saw those challenges/opportunities but now I do and as a senior insist that we make a difference and have a proper purpose...great video :-)

Thanks Taylor I think every Consultant that is a TH-camr needs to make this “what management consulting is”. Had to explain what I do first before any other corporate life video…
Very interesting video, Taylor, I wish more professionals were open like that and tell what they actually do, it's especially helpful for students choosing what they want to study in school for and have right expectations.
You mention your projects lying somewhere along the qualitative/quantitative spectrum - it’d be interesting to hear what kinds of “hard” or “technical” skills you use day-to-day. As a former economic consultant myself, my consulting experience was very quant heavy, but I’m always curious to know of others’ experience in consulting more broadly. Thanks and keep up the great content!
What 'Turtle' said lol! "Appear to have my shite together on TH-cam" is the most relevant comment because you really do appear to........... and I found the presentation extremely interesting so well done you! Anything with a time limit or budget constraint will just about guarantee a capacity to handle stress levels is a prerequisite for success. Anyhow back to the sailing videos in the Caribbean, a guaranteed stress reliever.
Hey, I was bored at work and just type in "vlog" on yt. Your channel was in the first 10. I watched one video and you have new fan and subscriber :) The thing that separated you from the rest of vlog channels yt recommended was that you are so natural, not forcing yourself to be like the rest of youtubers, you don't use clickbait, and thank you for that. I live in Europe and my biggest wish for my whole 35years was to live in NY. I love everything about it, and its not gonna happen for me, but your channel helps me to "feel "that life. Thanks and keep up good work
I was going back and forth between IB and consulting, and your video definitely pushed me toward consulting! I’m a natural problem solver, and this sounds like the perfect career for me! Thank you for this video. 😊
I used to work for management consultant. It was like this: 20% of clients just want to fill out paperwork for them, 30% of clients want consultant attached but they can do all themselves anyway, 50% government agencies, government owned firms. Last part is actually getting bigger and we know why. *wink wink*
Hey Taylor, as someone who has little idea of what a management consultant does (aside from working long hours), your video was really useful in explaining what the job entails. Although it is something that I never see myself doing, you made it sound like a genuinely really interesting line of work (if you are interested in helping businesses grow). Do you know what type of business you want to go into yet? I hope your employer knows how lucky they are to have such an eloquent young woman like yourself working for them! They should use this video as part of their recruitment strategy!
A key response when people/clients make statements that BAs/Associates couldn’t possibly add value is to point out that the client is not just hiring consultants but is hiring the knowledge and expertise of the whole of the consulting firm which will be drawn in to solve the problem.
Some people are very basic and feel better by criticizing others. I work for a Fortune 500 and we hire many consultants to help with performance and efficiency. The problem most have with you is you are young so they do t see it. I do. Thank you for your videos and keep doing your thing!!!!
Management Consulting is challenging. I consult globally in EMEA & APAC, multiple languages and cultures and multiple sectors, enhancing business operations, profitability and efficiency. Coownership helps reward & recognition. Btw you’re looking stunning Taylor as always.
I wonder how people can think that management consulting is MLM. I can see how people might think you're a life coach, Taylor. You give off some vibes which appear similar in ways to a life coach. Great video.
Hi Taylor! Thanks for sharing your MC experience. This is very similar to what I do as an executive search consultant (executive recruiter) at Korn Ferry. I focus on supply chain and operations with mid to large companies throughout the US. Out clients vary in industry so the projects are always changing depending on the need and technicality.
The project you had described about achieving net-zero by 2050 using SBTi guidelines is what I work on in my day job as a Sustainability Consultant for an energy firm. Interesting to see this line of work being trickled down to Management Consulting. Here's to a sustainable future!
Great video. I am a former Bain employee and just landed a role at a PEG consulting firm as an expert consultant and your video I'd say is fairly accurate 👍
I have extensive experience in the “climate space” and, still, it sounded like gibberish😂🤣😂. Back in engineering school, we just called it “life cycle costs to meet deliverables.” Been doing these evaluations for 30+ years. Every 5 years they invent new terminology. Business evaluation hasn’t changed since the Romans built the aqueducts.
Honestly this is the first video I watched that explains what an MC does in so much details and I learned a lot. (I'm just a high school student trying to see if this might be something I want to do in the future.)
Wow Taylor- you sure told the skeptics. You go girl, that’s all I can say. I’m also a big fan of The Office so that was a clever way to help with your explanation. Also , might I recommend Schitts Creek, if looking for another comedy to enjoy.
Hi Taylor - great video, thank you for explaining this, I did understand much more about this profession now. As a "research consultant and data analyst" (the most accurate description of my job), I can relate a lot when it comes to misconceptions and raised eyebrows when people ask me what I do, LOL. I learned to respond this question in several parts ("I'm a research consultant, which basically means that.....") :)
I was a very highly specialized consultant in the clinical research/pharmaceutical industry. I had worked in both these industries and for a government regulatory branch. I was working at a university when a global consulting firm was brought in and they recruited me for their new department. I eventually opened my boutique firm. No one in my family understands what I did for 25 years 🤣
I am currently an Intern in IQVIA (IMS). My parent was really confused when I just told them I prefer being a management consultant to working as a surgeon. They was like "Our child is going to ruin his whole life"...I don't know how to clarify these things to them....
I think you have a great future ahead of you since you are a bright young gorgeous lady!! Don't listen to negative people and just focus on your career and your goals and you will be very successful I think!! Best wishes!!
Turn over of roughly 2 years sounds very familiar in my field as well. My colleagues and I know we’re making a impact and producing results tho along the way can’t help but feel feelings of constant failure from all the stress, workload, expectations, etc. Thanks for sharing your journey. Would love to hear more about other projects you’re working on . Super interesting!!
I am sure your day is extremely stressful and demanding, both from your employer and the clients. The days are long and weekends and vacations are more than likely a dirty word. Great job getting the job, I know how had the road was.
Consulting is the ultimate definition of "If you're not part of the solution, there's good money to be made in prolonging the problem". Basically a consultant is someone who borrows your watch, tells you the time , and charges you for it.
Hola güerita. I love your style, your setup, the sky behind you, the way you shine and how you answer all of the comments. Could you make a 50 things about you video?
Wow! Brilliant girl. Definitely the kind of role for the very best from the ivy league but surely it would be very rewarding too. Love that attitude and how cool and calm you are toward the negative comments. You probably got an incredible skillset in terms of hard and soft skills at a young age. Keep shining! :)
As I also have a degree in business I found it quite funny to hear the opinions of people. Not a consultant but I still "consult" people sonetimes as I am in HR marketing (also a job that leaves a lot of questionmarks for people). consultants in my opinion are essential for companies as they can give them a fresh perspective. Companies can get lost in their work, cannot see thar they are moving in the wrong direction being cough up in everday business, or have trouble taking neutral or the most sensible decisions as emotions are involved. Consulting is like a fresh pair of eyes in my opinion and of course experience but you have to gey your experience from somewhere. I know that as a young professional it is a lot of listening and editing ppts.
I went through the whole video and I am still fully convinced that MC is a non-existing field that only achieves justifying premade decisions. Don't care how competitive it is, most people care about salary, not value. Ps: Yes, every kid who just came out of college, like myself included, knows nothing on how to run a business.
I found your channel 10 days ago with your "What I spend as a 26 year old" video and have honestly binge watched your channel for the past week. You have the perfect combination of goofiness, where its fun to watch your videos, and information and professionalism, where I feel like I'm learning from a highly intelligent individual. From that video specifically, the fact that you were explaining accrual basis accounting but also pointing and saying "Fort Greene Park, Taylor, Sandwich" was just great. I was wondering through all the videos what exactly management consulting was and through this video I just realized that.....I actually work for a consuting firm😅. Well, just like Deloitte and KPMG from your graph, its a CPA and consulting firm but I worked in the accounting field so never knew what the other guys did. Anyways just wanted to say that I have been loving your videos.
Thank you for the explanation, however to me, it seems like this model introduces a lot more work by bringing in consultants that then have to not only learn about the project goal (net zero emissions and actions), but also the company structure, their decision making process and what the company leadership is willing to offer, when, and how much in which department, to come up with a solution, which also wastes the time of the company management. This could be better achieved by assessing this internally and making it a short term priority of a small team. I work for a small hospitality company and I was tasked with finding out how to make our restaurants zero waste. I had to do all the research about the goal and necessary actions, but was much more relaxed in talking to potential partners in what we can offer and at what cost we want to achieve this as I’m already familiar with the company’s goals and priorities. Please let me know if I’m wrong, I’d love to hear about situations where consulting is better suited.
Love your videos, Taylor! I've just started working as a management consultant for a large consulting firm and I absolutely love how we get the chance to work on projects in different industries and learn lots of new and interesting things all the time. You never get the chance to feel bored. Keep up the good work!
"you must have an onlyfans" 💀 jesus christ lol people are bold out there. i'd be interested in hearing your thoughts and criticisms about consulting that you mentioned in the end. great explanation of the job. i was an intern in R&D and the main client of our company was an aerospace manufacturer and you could tell because it was easy to get a hold of information for planes for that company or get in touch with someone who had resources for it. sadly in R&D projects are way longer than 6 months, and i personally didn't get that "we gave them a starting point" realization feeling lol i just felt like the whole endeavor was a waste of time. maybe it's my mindset lol. i'm glad you can see the projects you're involved with in a positive light and can think something like "we gave them a good stepping stone, and they're actually doing it". in my case maybe it's because it was R&D so we were relying on a lot more hypotheticals, but it felt way more lawyery, like we had a project to push and were trying hard to see what "could be done". also being the lowest tier intern earning a shit pay with nebulous af responsibilities, and that R&D department having a huge turnover ratio basically churning interns in n out definitely didn't help feeling like the projects were gonna be eventually done lmao. if you see an Airbus twin-engine narrow body plane using a hybrid powerplant in like 2040 know one of your subscribers was an intern doin some powerplant viability calculations and documentation lol
The audacity of some people! Lol and I hear ya. The project I talked about in this vid was definitely more "rewarding" since they announced they would be using our strategy. A lot of the work I've done felt a lot more theoretical and just not as rewarding, so I get that side too. And I'll keep an eye out for the hybrid powerplants! haha thanks sm for watching
Management consultants fix problems or answer questions the client companies don't want to or can't answer. Many times large companies will call them in when a division or business unit is failing and they want to close it or get an independent or fresh eye view of how to make a necessary change. The reason why MCs can work in diverse areas is because the principals have put in place techniques to diagnose, communicate and implement solutions that are valid across many industries, regardless of their specificities. Apple Computer may produce computers and phones, but they still face pay equity and environmental concerns of an airline, for example.
Someone told me once that management consultants talk to middle management, figure out what the consensus is, then propose that. The function is to provide cover if things don't work out: "well, those fancy consultants said to do this."
I work in adveirtaising and part of your job reminded me a lot of what a planner do: gather all the information, process it and bring it to the creative team to come up with a concept and idea for the cliente needs. It's really cool what you do, and shows like a hunger of constante knowledge that you probably have.
Well, you're very well spoken so ignore bad comments on here. Not very many know how to survive in New York. I tried when I was younger and New York was not for me. I admire your tenacity to live in a city like New York.
Hey Taylor! I just found your channel when I was looking at New York City videos. I fell In love with your videos about consulting and your educational and professional journey. I’m still in school but I literally watch your videos when j need motivation because we are the same age and you seriously motivate me to get my shit together lol. Keep up the great work you’re awesome!
As someone who’s been in the industry for 15 years, really you only covered what Strategy Consulting firms do. The analogous answer would be ‘What is Financial Services?’ And you tell us all about what an Investment Bank does… missing the regulatory authorities, utilities, retail banks and insurance firms.
Hey Taylor, One thing that my dad (ex-marketing consultant) always told me was, "If you don't have tangible skills applicable to your profession, your career can be extremely tiring." This kind of influenced me to study engineering & computer science currently at college. Have you or people in the consulting industry been feeling a similar way? And are there any valuable or "hot" skills that can pivot you or even see yourself as a consultant in longevity?
Ah interesting! In that same vein, the part that I dislike the most is that I'm not "creating" something per se (the way I do with my videos, for example), but nonetheless I've taken away a lot of skills with business dealings in general I would say! I don't plan on staying in it forever though 😊
I've heard people explain quantum physics & molecular biology with much less words & much more clarity. "If you can't explain it to a six-year-old, then you don't understand it yourself" - Albert Einstein."
Okay I admit, when we recently watched Office Space I thought of you when the consultants came into the movie. With that said, thank you for doing this video. I'm sure you do great work!
Great video, I find it really interesting how you describe your role, always interested in the field. Having worked in corporates for a while and seeing the other end of management consulting I also believe one of the reasons Companies use management consultants is around decisions where senior leaders face internal contention with other leaders, they can engage a consulting firm to provide advice around a topic where leaders don’t currently agree or can’t draw their own conclusions, making it easier to gain broader stakeholder acceptance.
TLDR: A company hires consultants when they can not spare their own employees to do a specific task/project, often when the project falls outside the employees 'everyday tasks or if the project can affect the employees function within the company, i.e. be laid off. Also, consultants can spend the time becoming sorta ish experts on a specific topic for a shorter period of time, which ordinary employees can not due to other tasks, which means that you can "consult" on something even though you are not an expert in the field in general. Lastly, great video
Great content, Taylor! I'll refer friends to this video every time they ask what the heck do I do for a living :) Keep it up and I'm sure you'll become a manager/PL in no time (if that's your ambition), it's a challenging shift but very rewarding! Cheers from Brazil!
honestly, i'm clueless on what consulting is generally and i never had an interest in knowing it, i just love ur persona so i'll watch this either way lol
being successful doesn't have anything to do with your age, college degree or where you live... it depends on how hard you worked and found ways to become successful or consultant :)
Thanks for the insights. People don't understand that consultants help businesses run with less people and bring on special skills and expertise when needed for projects like your climate change one.
Excellent summary on MC , Taylor, and it definitely will help a lot of aspirants. Hope all consultants had your communication skills. Being aligned to this for more than a decade now, though mainly for Health and Life Sciences industries, I could not have explained better 👍. The "value" aspect will however, always remain subjective. :)
Confusing career demystified!!! Hopefully lol
I miss you so much, and you're creative keep going✨✨✨✨✨..

Thanks so much! Yep I love it 😊
Thanks Taylor I think every Consultant that is a TH-camr needs to make this “what management consulting is”. Had to explain what I do first before any other corporate life video…
Totally!
Thanks and keep up good work
So happy to hear this! Thanks so much 😊
I was going back and forth between IB and consulting, and your video definitely pushed me toward consulting! I’m a natural problem solver, and this sounds like the perfect career for me! Thank you for this video. 😊
Same here
I used to work for management consultant.
Aw I appreciate this!! Thanks so much Robert. Glad you found it interesting 😊
A key response when people/clients make statements that BAs/Associates couldn’t possibly add value is to point out that the client is not just hiring consultants but is hiring the knowledge and expertise of the whole of the consulting firm which will be drawn in to solve the problem.
Now I clearly know what is a management consultant and what actually they do and how they get expertise themselves. Thank you sooo much sister.
The way you cut the screenshots to the video is revolutionary I believe. This should be the industry standard.
My forever dream field. Consulting is all about the methodology. Felicitaciones!!
Great example of the high level communication skills necessary to be successful at management consulting.
Hi Taylor! Thanks for sharing your MC experience. This is very similar to what I do as an executive search consultant (executive recruiter) at Korn Ferry. I focus on supply chain and operations with mid to large companies throughout the US. Out clients vary in industry so the projects are always changing depending on the need and technicality.
Also, all of our projects are on a retained or contained basis which is used to allocate resources.
Great video! Consulting is often saying you're an expert at something on Friday and being an expert at that thing on Monday.
Probably one of the best youtube channel on consulting! Keep up the good work!
If your company is a company that has been around for awhile it definitely brings value to others. Thank you for clearing the air
Thank you!!
PS In addition to working with individual clients, I work a lot with companies and institutions. Who knows, maybe we'll do some collab one day? :)
I think you have a great future ahead of you
since you are a bright young gorgeous lady!!
Don't listen to negative people and just focus
on your career and your goals and you will
be very successful I think!!
Taylor uploads, I drop everything. Hello Ms. Bell.
awwww happy to hear it!! hello hello!
This is SO helpful to understand consulting. Thank you so much!!!
So glad you thought so!! 😊 Thank you!!
Currently working on my MBA, considering this avenue, good to hear from someone in the hot seat, THX!
Appreciate the editing and quick speaking cadence. Watching this vid on normal speed seems like 1.5x speed which I like!
Aw glad to hear it!! I also watch most things on 1.5x so I’m right there with ya haha
Finally a video with an example of an engagement! Thank you!
More to come!
Being funny at work is a delicate balance of being just funny enough to entertain your co-workers, but not so funny that you're sent to HR.
Ms Taylor,
I sincerely appreciate for providing properly explanation regarding Management Consulting!
Wow, this was actually super insightful. Best of luck to you!
Great vid. That pic of you in college superimposed still cracks me up!!
Someone told me once that management consultants talk to middle management, figure out what the consensus is, then propose that. The function is to provide cover if things don't work out: "well, those fancy consultants said to do this."
OMG!This is very beneficial video!I realized,Even if I didn't find your previous videos,I will become your fan!
Thank you Taylor. 😆
Aw thank you so much 😊 it can no doubt be a tough place to live!!
Very well explained, I feel enlightened 😍you're doing an amazing job honey, we're all proud of youu💘💘💘
Omg thank you so much!! I’m so glad you find them motivational 😊💪🏼
As someone who’s been in the industry for 15 years, really you only covered what Strategy Consulting firms do. The analogous answer would be ‘What is Financial Services?’ And you tell us all about what an Investment Bank does… missing the regulatory authorities, utilities, retail banks and insurance firms.
Hey Taylor,
One thing that my dad (ex-marketing consultant) always told me was, "If you don't have tangible skills applicable to your profession, your career can be extremely tiring." This kind of influenced me to study engineering & computer science currently at college.
@@TaylorBell Do you already have an exit plan in mind? If so, what would that look like?
@@Timot. from your boss^
I appreciate your sense of humor in all this. And not feeling defensive with peoples’ fairly good points or harsh questions. Very helpful!
I've heard people explain quantum physics & molecular biology with much less words & much more clarity.
"If you can't explain it to a six-year-old, then you don't understand it yourself" - Albert Einstein."
I loved this video. You were so respectful and explained everything so clearly. I really enjoyed it- thank you!
Aww I appreciate it!! Thank you 😊
The view from your room is soo beautiful.
Thank you so much!! It never gets old 😊
You provided a simplified explanation and a concrete example of your career. Now it is more clear! Cheers!
Okay I admit, when we recently watched Office Space I thought of you when the consultants came into the movie. With that said, thank you for doing this video. I'm sure you do great work!
Hahaha yup, classic portrayal of consultants 😂
It’s interesting to see how you describe what you do on the type of job you do and always enjoy your videos! 🙏 hope you have a wonderful day!!
Yes a new vlog!!! 🙌🙌🙌 Fresh after your postponed grad ceremony!!! 👩🎓👏
woohooo!! yasss just got back! 🎉
👏👏 What were some of the things you noticed that changed in Philly since you were last here?!
Great video, I find it really interesting how you describe your role, always interested in the field. Having worked in corporates for a while and seeing the other end of management consulting I also believe one of the reasons Companies use management consultants is around decisions where senior leaders face internal contention with other leaders, they can engage a consulting firm to provide advice around a topic where leaders don’t currently agree or can’t draw their own conclusions, making it easier to gain broader stakeholder acceptance.
okay so i clicked the next video i’m addicted 😂
Management Consulting is basically conducting research work and summarizing the key points to senior execs to craft strategy. (I have interned in it)
TLDR: A company hires consultants when they can not spare their own employees to do a specific task/project, often when the project falls outside the employees 'everyday tasks or if the project can affect the employees function within the company, i.e. be laid off.
Thank you so much!! 😊 Appreciate it
honestly, i'm clueless on what consulting is generally and i never had an interest in knowing it, i just love ur persona so i'll watch this either way lol
aww well thank you 😅
being successful doesn't have anything to do with your age, college degree or where you live... it depends on how hard you worked and found ways to become successful or consultant :)
Thanks for the insights. People don't understand that consultants help businesses run with less people and bring on special skills and expertise when needed for projects like your climate change one.
Thank you so much for this video.....Having limited experience in Management Consulting myself.....this cleared up so many things !!
You are clearly smart as a whip and very articulate.
People love to throw stones with their barbs
Excellent summary on MC , Taylor, and it definitely will help a lot of aspirants. Hope all consultants had your communication skills. Being aligned to this for more than a decade now, though mainly for Health and Life Sciences industries, I could not have explained better 👍. The "value" aspect will however, always remain subjective. :)
This is the best video I’ve watched on this topic
agreed
Thank you! This is probably the most helpful consulting video I have watched. It is so clear and helped me understand it so much better.
Audio is so crisp! Love your videos! Pls do more vlogs! You're awesome Tay!!!
Wooo glad it sounds crisp on your end!! Thank you so much!! 😊😊
