We train this in Poland when F16 comes. I fly a couple of times on MiG 29 against F16. Great fun :-) As 3 gen avionics, this depends. They all said the Mig 29’s only flaw was gas. In an all out fight it could only stay up for 20-25 minutes before it had to land. But that’s the achilles heel of all jets I guess. Great stuff GS!
It makes sense given its purpose and how it is set up to fight. Since it can be operated in worst conditions it has wider deployment. It is designed to take off and engage. I don't think russians had long missions for it in mind. That is why it is perfect craft for smaller nations that have defense as priority.
F-16 with no bags has exactly the same problem. If you wanna stay in the air atleast for a solid amount of time you gotta go dirty and take those 2 big bags.
@aussiebear22 - The other reason MiG-29s have always seemed to be on the losing side in fights with NATO jets is a lack of AEW&C aircraft by a lot of MiG-29 customer states. In the Balkans, for example, there was one particular dogfight where a single MiG-29 pilot went into the sky pretty much blind and was immediately picked up by multiple flights of F-15s and F-16s. I forget which one shot him down, but it was an easy kill. It's a decent airframe, and it would've done better in Russian hands, where it would've been used for what it was designed to do. You had countries using these things against heavy air superiority fighters because they were all they had. It was never going to turn out well for them. It is interesting to note that the USSR was far more excited about this plane than the Flanker, though. MiG was held in much higher regard by the Communist Party than its competitors. After the fall of the USSR, the new Russian government seemed to shift favor to Sukhoi and develop the Flanker as the front-line fighter of choice - as well as focus export development on that platform rather than the Fulcrum. See: Su-30MKI which was produced in the hundreds. It would've been interesting to see what may have been if the MiG-35 was developed as well as it should've been and the MiG 1.44 was put into production (although there are rumors the Chinese J-20 is basically a MiG 1.44 ripoff).

Funny fact. Soviet Military Doctrine at that time assumed that in case of war all major airfields will be bombed (most probably with nuclear munitions). In order to maintain air force operable the ability to quickly prepare new airstrips was critical and almost all soviet planes had requirement to take off from and land to unpaved airfields (even heavy bombers like Tu-16 were able to do that). Despite the political ambition, almost everything in Soviet Doctrine was focused on defense which makes it opposite to US doctrine, which is focused on offense. This difference lay out huge differences in tactics which is unfortunately next to impossible to emulate in DCS due to limited interactions between different branches of armed forces.

The funny part about this is that Fulcrum and Viper pilot would probably be the best of friends drinking vodka and whiskey and recounting the recent dogfight in detail. My great uncle was a Phantom pilot and is planning a trip to Vietnam to meet an Ex- North Vietnamese fighter pilot he's been writing to for the last year. Something about this community, words can't describe it.
When two jets are evenly matched it always comes down to the skill of the pilot ! This is the type of merge fights that are just astonishing to watch !
The Air Chief Marshall (equivalent, 4-star General) of the Bangladesh Air Force is a colleague of mine. He used to fly MiG-29s in the BAF. When I was over in Pakistan, attending a space technology conference, I sat at the table with an Air Commodore (equivalent, 1-star General) during the gala dinner - not knowing he was ex-Pakistan Air Force who flew F-16s and here I was, flapping on about combat aircraft and air combat tactics. Since Bangladesh went for Russian aircraft (and also has Chinese aircraft in its fleet) but the Pakistanis went for American, I asked him why they chose that option and he said because the engineering of the wings/fuselage of Russian aircraft isn't the same standard as American production and therefore, it's more susceptible to fatigue with constant high-G manoeuvres.
American/Western technology is far better than Russian/Chinese one. Everybody knows it. Russian missile technology is comparable to American missile technology though - probably even better.
Ironically there was a big controversy way back when because the wings of the F-16A weren't constructed to the same 9 G-tolerance as the rest of the airframe.
Thank you for giving the MiG-29 the love it deserves! I see so many people in TH-cam comment sections bashing the plane, saying that it's outdated, useless or inferior. But this video shows that in competent hands, it is perfectly capable of it.
For the first maybe 10 of your fights I was thinking the US built fighters in DCS are way more superior than the Soviet builts, but later I realized it depends on which aircraft you're flying with. 😁
Well, for BVR, nato jets still have massive advantage, but in dogfights, both mig 29 and su27/33 are very good.....Flying F15 right after flying su27 is like flying a brick that had a lot of thrust lol😂
@@qiyuxuan9437 Yes, I meant within the visual. In BVR he trashes too many expensive missiles, he takes off with 6 AIM54 and 2 AIM9 and 2 external fuel tanks, after the fight he would come back to the base with just a gallon of fuel. 😁😁
With the Ghost of Kyiv rumors going around, I'd like to see if somebody in a Mig 29 can score Ace in a single deployment in DCS. I know it wouldn't be accurate to 6 kills over 24 hours, but it be a nice proof of concept
After seeing so many Viper and Hornet flights and fights, seeing the Fulcrum is a welcome sight as a Fulcrum fanboy. And you put it through its paces nicely, showing what it can do; although its manual hydro-mechanical controls definitely require more finesse than a FBW. Would very much like to see more Fulcrum content, a breath of fresh air from all the NATO aircraft and even the Flanker.
That's true and for me when I'm dogfighting I usually turn the AoA limiter off from the mission editor so I don't have to keep the Y key pressed all the time. It becomes so much better at low speeds that even the Hornet has hard time keeping up.
I'm really looking forward to seeing you fly more red aircraft, even if they are in FC3, it's neat to see you fight from what many people assume is just a no win situation.
Great video, especially slow motion parts! It's worth mentioning that MiG's cannon is 30mm and Viper's is 20mm so maybe that's one of the reasons why you survived his burst and he didn't survive yours.
Since getting in to DCS, I've always been more passionate about A2G use for aircraft.. After watching some of your videos I've gained a much higher interest in A2A. Makes my F-16 much more useful ;-)
Hey there GS! I have a bit of a challenge for you. I've seen the good guys over at Grim Reapers try some dogfights in complete darkness, and I wanna see you try the same, maybe with Atè! It's quite challenging only having the radar and a tiny FOV with the night vision goggles.
Reallly like the video in this format, where you introduce the planes you fly with the backdrop of a flying montage. So awesome. Thanks for the upload. Hope to see more videos like this one. Also enjoy your channel in general too.
Lift vector placement is hard to understand, Hope to see such vertical scissors in upcoming Dogfight and your detailed explanation would be appreciated.
Don't forget about the Fulcrum having the world's first off boresight targeting. The Fulcrum is a knife fighter, and once it's in range there is little that you can do against it. The Fulcrum actually achieves it's supermanoeuvrability without the use of a fly by wire, it is "perfectly balanced", this is extremely impressive as no western nation has ever produced a supermanoeuvrable plane without the use of fly by wire as supermanoeuvrable planes cannot be aerodynamically stable, they can either be unstable (very easy to achieve) or metastable (perfectly balanced). The Russians made what is essentially a sports car that can out race a dragster out of an old farm tractor.
Mobius 1 It should be said: the MiG 29 had no rival in pure thrust back when it was first produced. It’s thrust is now HEAVILY outclassed in the F-22 Raptor
Another great vid Hoss as always! Love the Mig 29 I noticed some nose pitching when you were pulling high G. She needs to be trimmed, I find trimmed to lvl at about 850km to 950km is the sweet spot to prevent that pitching in high G. I was wondering what your take is on this and if you just trim her on the fly adding and decreasing trim throughout the fight? Thanks again always enjoy the insights!

man that moment you shot down that F16 and you make that cinematic section it touch my heart because here in slovakia we still have fulcrums in active service :)
With my pc my options are basically war Thunder, which I get better performance on my Xbox, or ancient novalogic mig-29/f-16/f-22. So thank you for making these huge catalogs of videos for me to live vicariously through you my friend.
I've read a paper from a U.S.A.F. pilot stating that the (east german) mig-29's bled airspeed much faster than the F-16. It also breaks lock often and S.A suffers from the compromised view inside the cockpit. Even the mig-29 pilots favored the F-16. Sure on the initial turn the mig could get a kill. But if the pilot missed then the next turn he would be screwed. There was also something about the centerline external tank on the 29, can't remember details. I think it had to do that it could not be dropped safely while flying. And you really want an extra tank because it is thirsty.
It's hard to believe these constructions are so old - F16/Mig29. I like new stuff (F35 and so on) but things like F16, Mig29, Su27 are just legends for me.
i love these videos when a fellow American or western individual gives a non bias truthful "talk" about Russian weapons. I notice there are a few popping up on you tube. As an American i really appreciate these because it gives an honest analysis and not just some Russian hater point of view! too many Russian haters who swear Russian weapons are junk when in reality they have some of the most popular, and numerically produced weapons around the world. Also that arrogance is what can get our young men and women in the service the wrong idea when going up against countries that have these machines. i think we as Americans became use to beating nations that have old, outdated versions. with minimal to no upgrades of import versions with pilots that has nowhere the amount of flight training or skills as Nato or actually Russian pilots. You got my Sub bro!
The intro you are doing is great and the information is really interesting. However it is hard to follow you through the technical "briefing" by just listening espacially because english is my 2nd language. It would be nice to have some of these numbers as an overlay in front of the flightscenes you showed. Even small writing in the corner or the bottom would be enough because you are saying them in the same moment so it would just be a little visualisation of the data. I hope you can understand what i mean. I love your videos keep on doing great!

Love the Mig 29. One of my favorite military jets.
loved the intro! with all the info and history on the jet. Could this become the norm? pretty please!
whenever possible brother i will do it
The funny part about this is that Fulcrum and Viper pilot would probably be the best of friends drinking vodka and whiskey and recounting the recent dogfight in detail.
My great uncle was a Phantom pilot and is planning a trip to Vietnam to meet an Ex- North Vietnamese fighter pilot he's been writing to for the last year.
Something about this community, words can't describe it.
Do a video of the meeting. It would be fascinating to watch
When two jets are evenly matched it always comes down to the skill of the pilot ! This is the type of merge fights that are just astonishing to watch !
Can we all just take a second to appreciate this filming it's top notch
Growling Sidewindovich ... Score 2 for the Motherland. Love the looks of the Mig-29. Great video as usual. Good flying.
Pakistanis went for American and Chinese aircraft because F 16 is cheap as well as Chinese aircrafts are and both were their allies.
@Stuxnet Lassa 😂
American/Western technology is far better than Russian/Chinese one. Everybody knows it.
Russian missile technology is comparable to American missile technology though - probably even better.
@@smokejaguarsix7757 let them dream lmao
@@qiyuxuan9437 TBF that's mostly due to 10+ years technology gap.
The two sexiest jet fighters ever made imo.
Perfect balance of straight edges and smooth curves.
But the sexist is the Spitfire - rule Brittania!
@@greglance4335 stop going on about the spitfire Greg you old fart
The second sexiest machine after F-14 Tomcat. Great work dude!
Su 27?
@@lazarmilovanovic742 Hmm.. 🤔
Mig-29 have a great looking model for a FC3 aircraft, even by FF standards it looks great!
With the Ghost of Kyiv rumors going around, I'd like to see if somebody in a Mig 29 can score Ace in a single deployment in DCS. I know it wouldn't be accurate to 6 kills over 24 hours, but it be a nice proof of concept
I did a few days ago, but against npcs. 3 of which didn't seem to realize I was coming up behind them
Very good idea with little historical preview about aircraft before combat.
Thank you!
Really nice video that you put together. Simply can't wait for the DCS level MiG-29 even more.
This is the dcs mig 27
@@tarunbasra8230huh
After seeing so many Viper and Hornet flights and fights, seeing the Fulcrum is a welcome sight as a Fulcrum fanboy. And you put it through its paces nicely, showing what it can do; although its manual hydro-mechanical controls definitely require more finesse than a FBW.
Would very much like to see more Fulcrum content, a breath of fresh air from all the NATO aircraft and even the Flanker.
You should use the stick limiter overide more. It gets rid of the shaking.
That's true and for me when I'm dogfighting I usually turn the AoA limiter off from the mission editor so I don't have to keep the Y key pressed all the time. It becomes so much better at low speeds that even the Hornet has hard time keeping up.
Excellent video and break down. Remarkable airmanship with your ability to squeeze every advantage out of the MiG!
I'm really looking forward to seeing you fly more red aircraft, even if they are in FC3, it's neat to see you fight from what many people assume is just a no win situation.
14:52 that scene was amazing.
Haven't watched the video yet, but it's gonna be AMAZING, as always 👌
I like the honesty in your movies. You show your skills, but also your mistakes. And i also learn from it all. Thanks!
15:18 he was trying to cobra you. He had nothing left in the tool box.
Ha trying a Maverick hit the breaks move with the boards out didn’t work out so great.
Greg’s Automobiles and Airplanes would be proud, it was surprising in the best heading your name mentioned a while back, great video as usual.
New fan here, these dogfight videos are really enjoyable. I think I'm gonna try to get into DCS.
Love the vids, I've been hooked for a few weeks now. The history and performance intro of the planes are great, love the information.
In this video the Mig wins 2 rounds, the Stalinium wins 1 round, and the F-16 0 rounds.
The f-16 is overrated...
Love literally everything about this vid. From the mig intro to the music, all best
Lift vector placement is hard to understand,
Hope to see such vertical scissors in upcoming Dogfight and your detailed explanation would be appreciated.
Gotta love the Mig and the background story. Another quality video!
DCS is such a beautiful game, that impresses me everytime.
The Mig-29 was the 'Wow' plane at the time. Very impressive at an airshow :)
Beautiful and informative video, I really enjoyed it - thank you.
Ive been waiiiitttinnn for this oneeee... TURN IT UP
Mobius 1
It should be said: the MiG 29 had no rival in pure thrust back when it was first produced. It’s thrust is now HEAVILY outclassed in the F-22 Raptor
@@bazej1080 Can you read english?
> back when it was first produced
Another great vid Hoss as always! Love the Mig 29 I noticed some nose pitching when you were pulling high G. She needs to be trimmed, I find trimmed to lvl at about 850km to 950km is the sweet spot to prevent that pitching in high G. I was wondering what your take is on this and if you just trim her on the fly adding and decreasing trim throughout the fight? Thanks again always enjoy the insights!
The bios of the aircraft at the beginning is really cool. Great shots
Man, your videos are the best! I really hope to have at least a 10% of your hability with DCS in the future. Also! Please, do more videos with the mig 29! Tks!
What's background music you use during the replays??
I wanna know too... Sounds something like out of warhammer or WoW
I really like it, but it's not public, if you find it full please link here.
14:45 That scene and that music! It's just so damn awesome!
where was the f16 aim9's? didn't see any launch in the entire match
guess he thought his WEZ was jammed didnt want to waste any missiles.
Nice video , Growling. I really, did not know these many advantages of the Fulcrum.
You missed the fact that even the Indian Air Force and Indian Navy use it as well
i love you and your content
love u too buddy
The art and drama of dogfighting, beautifully captured. Love the choice of music.
In the next video please fight with a Sukhoi in Indian Air Force livry.
Loved the preflight aircraft brief/overview. Maybe a series where you go Over the history of an aircraft and it’s characteristics and then how to exploit those characteristics in a fight
The Ghost of Kyiv
Fabulous stuff as always. Thank you GS! Kind regards, Nick
my pleasure nick thank you for watching.
The are no Russian jets in DCS
Only soviet
i mean ya if you want to split hairs I guess.
Regularly passingby near fabric where Klimov RD-33 jet engines are still produced.
No signs of soviet letters on the front, only russians.
But russian letters means cyrillic, so RD-33 is slavonic jet engine now. That making no sense all kind of these subdivision.
Миг-29 is a real air warrior, in the right hands it is an extremely powerful weapon. It is a pity that it is not properly presented in dcs. I hope that one day they will do it and many virtual pilots will fly on it, it will be exciting days and nights .
Laughs in amraam
@@abhisheksrivastav3175 lmao amraam had countless kills unlike your shitty K-100 who has zero combat record

Nice vid, crazy move @2:10 this plane is a tank and was just incredible
My first computer and sim game was the F16 and Mig29 fulcrum by Novalogic back in the days. Arcade sim but man it was fun flying the MiG29. I hope to recreate that fun in DCS one day after the learning curve I always loved that Mig29 it’s a beautiful jet and very interesting intake system I never knew about. Good stuff man 👍🏻
I love all the analysis and explanations!
Lucky those 20mm rounds dint disabled the MIG, however the % any plane will withstand 30mm, are close to impossible. Great vid.
Love the intro bro. Great video! Can't wait for the full fidelity mig-29. Im not one to fly many russian aircraft but this one might be worth the buy! I havent messed with my fc3 planes in a while. Might be worth dusting them off and getting a little practice in, lol
Your camera angles are unrivaled in DCS vids.
I hope one day we get a full study level version of the MIG-29 instead of the version we have now.
Awesome just what I need!! Thanks. Been looking forward to a new video.
I love that you have some history on the planes in you video.
Lovely aircraft. Mig -29 , IAF is using it from 1985 and currently have upgraded it . And still uses it . ❤️
man that moment you shot down that F16 and you make that cinematic section it touch my heart because here in slovakia we still have fulcrums in active service :)
Kudos to your opponent for having one last crack at you after taking fatal hits!
Man I love your history lessons!!! :)
These shots after the kill are absolutely beautiful and cinematic!
Coolest DCS vid I've seen in a long while! Thank you!
The best Chanel for DCS.So good.
The 29 probably has the nicest external model in DCS World. Just thought I'd put that in :)
(The F/A-18C is mighty nice too)
The Mig-29 has phenomenal thrust.
Damn you never do videos of planes on the other side, this is going to be a fine evening...
With my pc my options are basically war Thunder, which I get better performance on my Xbox, or ancient novalogic mig-29/f-16/f-22. So thank you for making these huge catalogs of videos for me to live vicariously through you my friend.
i used to believe that MIG-29 is really until i met your youtube , Thank you for great information!
So epic. Beautiful aircraft and flight characteristics
There are two planes for which I do not understand retirement, the F-14 and MiG-29. Both are badass adversaries.
12:53 - "I think he hit me at least once"
The intro you are doing is great and the information is really interesting. However it is hard to follow you through the technical "briefing" by just listening espacially because english is my 2nd language. It would be nice to have some of these numbers as an overlay in front of the flightscenes you showed. Even small writing in the corner or the bottom would be enough because you are saying them in the same moment so it would just be a little visualisation of the data. I hope you can understand what i mean. I love your videos keep on doing great!
Explaining the lift vector it looks like pair of eagles fighting eachother looks so cool
