I wouldn't focus too hard on the profile. Just get the basic info like a picture, hometown, and graduation year. I would mainly focus on playing the best you can and let your scores speak for themselves. Good luck!
Hi Ryan, great video! I've got my 12 year old son that started taking golf seriously last year and started playing US Kids here in the Bay Area locally. Hoping to get him into AJGA next year. What do you suggest is the best way to help him continue to develop? Currently, I've been his main coach but I'm no pro. Would it be best to take him to a PGA Pro to see on a regular basis? I've also seen these Junior coaching programs that charge thousands of dollars that help with everything from swing coaching, to mental game, course management and college recruitment. Do you think those types of programs are useful? Or do you have any specific coaches you like in the East Bay Area here? Thanks in advance!
This was a great watch. I won’t lie I didn’t have the best Highschool I only played my senior year and my game was in a terrible spot. Is all hope lost for me playing D1 or do you think they still do walk ons and such? I know I would have a lot of work to do and grind a lot but I’m willing I just wonder if it’s a shot in the dark.
Hi William, walk ons are definitely possible if you put up amazing scores in outside tournaments. You need to win some tournaments, be able to go low (like -6 in one round and up to -10 over multiple rounds), and be able to consistently shoot lower scores (can't have too many in the high 70s). If you can do all of that in a short period of time, I'm sure coaches will recognize it. I think it also depends on when you're graduating college and your goals after college. What do you hope to gain out of playing D1 golf? Are you trying to play professionally or are you looking to get a normal corporate job after college? If you want to play professionally, and you've already started college, I would say to play in top amateur events and move up into mini tours instead of focusing on D1 golf. The NCAA eligibility rules could be a hassle and maybe taking up more years in college to play D1 golf isn't worth the cost. If you're looking to play the sport as a hobby after college, I wouldn't recommend pursuing D1.

Both work but I would prioritize AJGA since you are playing against others nationally. With GSGA, you’re mainly playing against other players from Georgia. Coaches like seeing you play against everyone in an even playing field. Think of playing in the AJGA as being a small fish in a big pond and playing in the GSGA as a big fish in a small pond. But having both definitely helps
Great video and thanks for all the advice. I’m a junior in high school looking to play D2, and I shoot in the mid- low 70s. Golf is a spring sport at my school and we don’t have many tournaments, so I only have a few scores from this season that I feel like I could share with college coaches. I’m playing in AGJA tournaments this summer and other big tournaments for my state. Should I wait to reach out to coaches until I’ve posted some low rounds at those tournaments or should I go ahead and reach out now?
Hi Bjorn! I believe if you have any scores in the mid to low 70s in tournaments, then it would be good to reach out to coaches now. I would also recommend you tell them that it would be great if they are available to come out and watch some of your tournaments over the summer for AJGA.

How do you go about getting an online ranking for coaches to view and is it enough to just play local Amateur tour events and bigger local junior events or are AJGA and bigger events almost needed to get a college coaches attention?
Cool! Keep it up! When you play in the tournaments, the ones that affect your WAGR, AJGA, and JGS ranking, you will likely automatically get a online ranking. You can tell usually in the tournament info, it will tell you if the tournament will give you a ranking. Also, your local Amateur tour events and bigger local junior events might already give you a ranking. There’s already a chance that you have a ranking, go to WAGR, AJGA, and JGS and search your name up! But usually the AJGA tournaments give both an AJGA and JGS ranking, and some of the bigger AJGA tournaments give you a WAGR based on your placement in the tournament, which is why I recommend playing in the AJGA tournaments

No problem. I have just been told that you can start emailing coaches on June 15th after your Sophomore year of high school. So I would start then The main point for the resume sites is to have one place that contains all your info. As long as the Junior Golf Hub and NCSA are pretty reputable then it’s fine. You’d be linking those sites in the emails anyways so they can find it that way. As long as they can access it and it has all your info in one place, you’re good. They pay a lot of attention to the leaderboards on the AJGA Events. They care about the scores and results. Good luck!

It’s possible at the D3 level with your current scores. But make sure it’s your tournament scores that are in that range, not just your handicap that include rounds at your home course

Yes there are some very talented D3 players that could go D1, most of the time, those are players that could go D1, but the school they are at don't have that program. They could have different areas of interest outside of golf or they could have gotten very good during their time in college and have the option to transfer.
