  • BUY, LEASE OR FINANCE A RENAULT MEGANE E TECH FROM OSV - bit.ly/3qGYwh1
Renault's Megane E-Tech Electric is the brand's second mainstream EV in a decade and is a game-changer in the affordable family hatch EV segment. It boasts a sporty design and engaging driving experience, thanks to a super-sharp 12:1 ratio power steering system and a lightweight 60kWh battery.
The platform used is the Nissan Ariya's CMF-EV, notable for mounting the drive motor at the front, which provides a total output of 216bhp. The Megane E-Tech Electric has a range of 280 miles, although this figure will vary depending on the type of road and prevailing weather.
The range starts from around £37,000, but does this price tag still make it an attractive option for families looking for a sophisticated and stylish EV hatchback?

It’s impressive but cutting out petrol or hybrid options while government incentives start declining is potentially a foolish move by Renault who are already struggling for market share. Also they’re not exactly renowned for electrical robustness.

I have been driving a Renault Zoe for the past three years. It’s a jolly good little car for my needs!! I need a car that will carry my second mode of transport, the electric bicycle. The Zoe carrys it easily, along with gardening tools, a folding chair and other items that my cleaning lady mustn’t find!!

at 19:01 you said that unless you avoid base trim, you won't get a wireless charging mat... I Think you mean "if you opt for the base trim"
Im more interested about the android and apple phoen connectivity though. I have one of these on order, due in the next 2 weeks. I have an iphone. is the connection not good? My phone contract allows me to switch at any time, so I could get an android... I would prefer not to though :D:D
Also, towards the end you said it wasn't really carbon neutral. My electricity supply is, and it isn't difficult for others to switch to one. they're every so slightly more expensive. I was with bulb. Bulb went bust, but I am with Octopus now. Their gas is 100% carbon neutral and their electricity is 100% renewable

Look at the small print on Renault's web site. The quoted charging speeds assume an ambient air temp. _above_ 25 deg. C !

As I said in another comment earlier, I notice that many modern cats come with a steering wheel from the early Austin Allegro, then known as the Quartic Steering Wheel. It’s not a bad thing, but a nearly square steering wheel isn’t a new idea!!

    A superb review....Well done!
I've just ordered the Top-of the-Range Iconic model in the UK (with that excellent Heat Pump). It was a straight choice between a Tesla Model 3, Polestar or the Megane, all were the same price.....No contest!
The sterile, poor build quality, horrid interior, ugly Tesla is so dated compared to the Renault. It's tech is so 'yesterday'. Brilliant move by Renault going to the experts, Google! You can't beat phone tech! The most advanced and updated on the planet!
By the way, Renault say the 0-60 time is 7.5 Sec, but independent reviewers have clocked it at 6.9 Sec (that's Mini Cooper S territory, but with that lovely instant torque).......how typically French, underplaying!

Hi Paris, I’m thinking of buying one of these, how’s the economy and charging experience been with your car? Geoff

    • @Paris__
      @Paris__ 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

@@thumper1747 Hi Geoff. It's been an absolutely excellent car, I cannot recommend it enough. I've been driving EV's for 10 years now (mainly Tesla model S) and I can honestly say this is the best EV I've ever had!
This time I really did my research (Instead of blindly going straight for Tesla). I spent time looking at all EV's, Audi, BMW, Polestar ect. What makes the Megane unique is how light and nimble it is compared to the 2 ton+ others (the Megane is the 3rd lightest EV on the market after the Mini and the Fiat 500). Helped by half the car made of aluminium and also carbon fibre. It really helps with the economy.
The best I've had is 302 miles as I haven't had it long (although I'll bet I'll beat that next summer). I mainly drive it on ECO and don't go much above 50mph. Just 'feather' the accelerator and you'll see the range go up. By the way, don't go by the range shown. Go by the percentage. I charged the car to 201miles, and did a 42 mile journey, and the range is showing 202.....work that one out!😂
I charge it at home, so no issues. On a long run, stick to Gridserve, Ionity and sign up to use the Tesla Superchargers and you'll never have range anxiety!.........Oh yes, and it's absolutely beautiful to look out (check out those 20" rims!), superbly made and has a high quality luxurious interior!! Also, you can't beat phone tech! It's the most advanced and updated on the planet (better than my Tesla's), a real genius going to Google!
Plus the unique 'cockrell' on the windscreen denotes that the car is totally sourced in France, design, battery, motor ect.....a nice touch.
Also one more thing. The electric for the blowers, heated seats and steering wheel doesn't come out of the EV's batteries. It comes from the car's 12v battery, like in any other car. The Power-Flow display which shows where the power is coming from, shows this. Thus not affecting the range....good eh!!😉
      Enjoy!!

For me the dark interior feel claustrophobic , especially in the rear , I kind of wish it had a larger battery, a bit faster , I hate the moving break pedal, this was just a bad idea that makes you hunt for the pedal, it makes you feel unsafe, one peddle isn’t hard to do so I have no idea why manufacturers still feel we need to roll the final part , and the charging issues with popular brands still go on , come on Renault get your software fixed asap

Do what you have to do, pal. I drove electric Renaults, there are brilliant cars. I would buy one in a heartbeat. I find it stupid to judge a brand based on dumb stereotypes. You can watch absolutely ALL reviews about the Renault Megane E Tech, in English, German, Dutch, French, Spanish, Italian, etc... you'll see that everybody loves that car and find it very reliable. You say you don't want to pre judge.. but that's exactly what you are doing.

@@garnray8568 Bollx all to do with Brexit. Renault cars have a poor reliability record when it comes to electrics (fact.). However the Dacia Duster (part of Renault) has a good reliability record. Yes they use Renault parts but perhaps their cars are more robust/have simpler electrics or put together with a bit more care? Equally French manufacturer Peugeot have a good reputation for producing great diesel engines. Don't understand why you brought politics/Brexit into a car review. It is not about which country a car is made but about whether the car itself is any good. I do not know Harry James and he is not prejudging but is informing you of his experiences with Renault and looking at the facts I happen to agree with him.

The Megane range is useless unless you buy the most expensive one.. In France where I live there have been complaints - EVs are not very well liked here due to size of France and range.. plus few people can afford new never mind an EV... Even then the real life range is much lower than quoted... Interior space isn't great even if it looks big outside... Overall the summary is that it is too expensive for what you get..
A quite pleasant car to look at.. Design is decent..
Advice - wait a few years to see where things are going.. Even now these EVs are for early adopters and we need to see what is going to happen with battery life/range improvements/public charging/government taxation on EVs (either at purchase or via additional tax costs via smart meters/public charging...)
If you have a decent vehicle then keep and maintain it.. If buying new then consider a decent hybrid model perhaps..
